For Owen Cross, the only thing that matters more than family is farming. As the oldest Cross brother, the land is his legacy, and he’ll do whatever it takes to make Cross Creek a success—including hiring local widow Cate McAllister to manage the bookkeeping tasks that are growing in his office like weeds. Cate’s as pragmatic as she is pretty, and she rattles his hard-fought composure at every … turn.
Cate had known a lot of things about her husband before he died three years ago in a car accident, but how much debt he’d gotten them into wasn’t one of them. She needs her job at Cross Creek, even if her boss is both gruff and gorgeous. But Owen’s a family man, through and through, and the last thing Cate is interested in is anything—or anyone—with strings attached.
As Owen and Cate join forces to right the farm, they discover there’s more to the other than the surfaces shows, and that passion can be found in unexpected places. Can Cate heal from the loss of one family to gain the love of her life? Or will the past prove too much for the promise of the future?

A sexy small town contemporary full of heart and heat!
Love this new series!!!
Hot country boys? Um, yes, please!
Heartwarming, emotionally engaging and sweetly thrilling romantic journey for two people that were not really looking for love but found it in-spite of themselves.
Owen Cross is the classic alpha male older brother holding down the family farm and keeping everyone together, he is gruff, lonely and has a huge heart. Cate McAllister is a sassy, sexy and smart as a whip widow next door with a past she like to keep to herself. Including all the debut that her late husband left her in and she really is not wanting to depend on another man again (no strings for this girl). Highly entertaining late night cuddled in bed read that I really enjoyed.
I loved the grumpy Owen in this story.
Owen has been smitten with Cate for a good while now. Cate is also smitten with Owen. She has been through a lot of loss and everybody treats her full of sympathy, and she is done with it after three years. Owen is an extremely moody person. Can Cate change that around? She has very strict things that she will never do or have. Can Owen change some of that around? Owen’s legacy is his family farm, Cross Creek. Cate is financially strapped and she worms her way into Cross Creek for a job. The honesty flows between them, plus attraction at it’s fullest. This book has all the feels to it. You get caught up in every emotion. Kudos to Kimberly Kincaid on a great story! Looking forward to the last book in this series.
Owen is the oldest of three brothers from Cross Creek. He made a promise to his dying mother when he was six that he would take care of the two most important things, the farm and family. He is bringing the farm into modern times, expanding with a store, and introducing new products. He needs someone to help with the business side, so he ends up hiring Cate. Cate lost her husband and daughter to a car accident two years ago. She was struggling with the massive debt her husband accumulated, and survivor’s guilt. Her two part time jobs were not enough, so the full time bookkeeper job at Cross Creek ranch is a godsend. They fight their attraction to each other, but finally give in. Overall I enjoyed this installment, but wasn’t overly thrilled with the ending.
4.5 stars!
This was a great read! Owen was broody, moody, and just overall seemed miserable until Cate came in to his life. These two were perfect for each other. He helped Cate see what an awesome person she truly was, and that her dreams truly do matter.
The Cross family dynamics had me cracking up. I love how close Owen is to his brothers, and even his sister.
The only reason I couldn’t give it 5 stars is because of an issue they faced at the end, that I think one person threw away too quickly. I mean, it was resolved. But the way a person feels about something that was presented to them just doesn’t go away overnight. It was still a fantastic read, that I would definitely recommend!
good but nothing special
I am loving this series. The ending to this one really surprised me I must say. Although it’s an HEA I was still a little disappointed. I don’t want to give spoilers so you’ll have to read. I do love how this family sticks together. You can’t help but love all these characters.
Owen is the oldest and most serious of the brothers. He wants what his brothers have found. In walks Cate. She has her own issues and a past she is trying to come to grips with. They compliment each other and grow together. He brings her out of her shell and she softens his gruff side. I believe Owen is my favorite. This is another winner from Kimberly Kincaid. I couldn’t put it down.
Owen is the last Cross brother to fall and he falls hard for local widow Cate. Cate is trying to get her life back on track three years after the death of her husband and daughter. At the end of her rope, she volunteers to take a full time job bringing Cross Creek’s books into the 21st Century, even without ever played bookkeeper before. When Owen begins treating her like Cate and not Poor Cate, sparks fly. Together they redefine what family means and how to go after your dreams. This book also gives us Marley beginning to come out of her shell, and big announcements about Hunter and Eli. Fans of the series will eat it all up.
I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this novel.
This book was very different to me in the line of romance. The main male character was quiet. Usually they have a voice. He was opinionated and very driven. If you like good romance books, this is a keeper! Owen hires Cate to do their farms bookkeeping and even questions himself a couple of times as the days go by, but when she proves herself, he has no more questions. Owen has dedicated his life to their family farm and he does whatever he can to protect it. Cate is a very heavily burdened young woman. Not only in her mind from past incidences, but burdened with financial setbacks, she struggles to make ends meet. Cate is fearful, yet confident. She is sassy, yet uncertain. When Owen offers her the job, she is leery at first, but accepts. She outdoes herself with the books and then furthers her confidence by succeeding with her baking explorations, thanks to Owen and his confidence in her. As Owen and Cate learn about each other, things look up (and down) with their relationship. This book kept me on the edge. Then the plot twist at the end made it even more enjoyable! The more I read the less I wanted to put the book down! Kimberly Kincaid is an author I will continue to read, and seek out.

Oh how I love the Cross brothers and Owen is no exception. Owen is the oldest and the farm is everything to him, working long hours to make sure everything is done. His mother drilled into him prior to her dying, family and farming both very important. He had the farm but nobody to share it with until he hired Cate. Cate is a young widow living with a terrible guilt for many years. Cate has a love baking. Soon Owen will bring Cate out of her comfort zone, but will it be enough for their HEA>
Loved this book. Great chemistry and flirting between Owen and Cate. Loved how Owen got Cate to follow her dream of baking. I must admit I was a little miffed at Cate at the end, hopefully things can change in the future. I’m hoping we get more of Marley in upcoming stories. Please don’t read this book while hungry. I highly recommend this book!!
Oh Grumpy, serious, Owen…you have won my heart (oh…and Cate’s too!) Swoon!!! Kimberly Kincaid…you made me cry in a Starbuck’s Drive-thru!!! HAHA…I LOVED this book so incredibly much!!! <3
Crossing Promises was the third book in the Cross Creek series...and although I LOVED them all so very much...this was my FAVORITE!!! It heightened my feelings, from literally laughing out loud, to sobbing.
I waited for what seemed like an eternity for this to release, and I wasn't disappointed (except that the book ended). I maybe did have a slight problem with the resolution at the end, because I think Owen may regret his decision as he gets older. (Didn't want a spoiler alert). I love the feeling you put into your books. This was a wonderfully written story line, with some juicy sex scenes! Perfect combination in my book!
AMAZING JOB, Kimberly!!!
I give Crossing Promises by Kimberly Kincaid Five Stars. This is book #3 of the Cross Creek series. You do not have to read these books in order they can be read as a standalone but All three books are awesome so I would recommend reading all three in order. This book was very well written and a very quick read. If you love small town romances that have hot farm boys as the main characters you will fall in love with this whole series.
Owen Cross is the oldest brother of the Cross boys and he takes this position very serious. He lives by the thought that the only thing more important than family is farming. Cross Creek is his Legacy and he will do whatever it takes to make Cross Creek a success. One of the decision he makes to help Cross Creek succeed is to hire the local widow Cate McAllister to manage the bookkeeping side of the Farm. Little did Owen know that by hiring Cate he is in for a whole lot of fighting to keep his composure.
Cate McAllister became a widow three years ago when a car accident not only killed her husband but also their daughter. Cate thought she knew everything about her husband until after that fateful day when she finds out that he was in so much debt that she is not sure she will ever be able to get out from under it. Cate is ready to give up and lose everything but then fate steps in and she is offered a full time job at Cross Creek taking care of their books by the gorgeous but rough around the edges Owen.
Once Owen and Cate start working together the sparks start to fly although they both try to deny it at first. Both Cate and Owen have scars that need to heal from major losses they have had to deal with in their life so can they help each other out in this process? You have to read the book to find out!
This book is a must read!
I love Cross Creek & all 3 brothers. I’ve been looking forward to Owen’s story & it did not disappoint.
Owen, being the oldest has always been serious about the family farm. He is all about family & the farm. He has a habit of putting his foot in his mouth often but tends to re-think what he says. He loves growing the different produce that they sell to local restaurants and at the farmer’s market and enjoys the good days on the farm as well as the bad days as well.
Cate is the perfect partner for Owen, though they started out as friends & workers when he offered her a job on the farm. Cate is desperate for another job after she discovers how much debt her late husband left her in. She is sassy and doesn’t let Owen get away with things & keeps him on his toes which is what he needs.
I also loved catching up with Hunter & Emerson as well as Eli & Scarlett.
Owen and Cate’s story was a pleasant, unexpected surprise! I wasn’t prepared to like Owen, but this book draws you in to understand why Owen is the way he is nd why he is so tough on everyone. Cate has been through a lot in her short life, but she hates that everyone thinks she’s fragile, when she’s really a strong woman doing what is necessary.
I loved the story and the way Kimberly pulls you into the story, making you feel that you really understand the main characters!
I was provided with an ARC of this book and I am providing my honest review.

5 CROSSING PROMISES STARS!! Another fantastic book in the Cross Creek Series. This story has all the feels and will hit all your emotion buttons. I loved seeing Owen and Cate’s story be told, it kept me flipping pages quickly. Kimberly Kincaid puts her heart and soul into her characters and you find yourself living them. I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book.
I love the Cross Creek series and I’ve really been looking forward to Owen’s story! Well it certainly did not disappoint! I am super happy with how everything went down. I think Cate is perfect for Owen and vice versa. Owen’s faith in her is what finally allows Cate to embrace what she is meant to do. Cate herself is what finally helps Owen pull his foot out of his mouth and go for something more in his life. He is finally able to see that he hasn’t been looking at his future clearly. Flirty, sweet and emotional, this book tugged at my heart. They do have a few hurdles to overcome but what they have found in each other is strong enough to do just that. I love that Hunter, Emerson, Eli and Scarlett are all in this book too! And Marley too of course. I just love this story!
Owen Cross is the stoic Cross brother, the ever-working Cross brother, the humorless Cross brother. Through 2 books, we have seen Owen scowl and labor across the pages, turning Cross Creek Farm into a booming success. The more the farm grew, the more tired and cranky Owen got. I impatiently awaited for his story to be told…..
And told it was! Owen was not the likeable brother in the prior books, but he intrigued me. Now that I was able to walk in his shoes, glimpse the thoughts in his mind and feel the ache in his soul, I cannot help but think he is “the” Cross brother. Owen Cross was bound to the land and to family, with both wrapped up in the legacy he desired to create. The burdens he chose to bear (some of his own making) and his complex character, shaped the tenor of this book. His late mother’s words, “Family and Farm, Owen. Never forget how important they both are. Never forget…” is his mantra.
Equally burdened was Cate McAllister, the young widow who caught his eye. Cate was equally complex – one minute confident and sassy, next uncertain and fearful, with only her frantic baking to calm her. What I found amazing in this book was that the story seemed to be setting its own way, flowing the way it meant to flow, especially regarding Cate’s loss of her husband and daughter. After three years, Cate felt the pitying looks from others as she felt the grief, anger and guilt inside. At times I wasn’t sure what was up with Cate – was she still grieving? Has she moved on emotionally? Why did I feel an edge of coldness from her, even as she was heating things up with Owen?
The interaction between all the characters was seamless and realistic, the writing as always impeccable from this author. But this book had a twist awaiting me towards the end that threw me for a loop that I was not prepared to deal with. I was so convinced that this story was about two individuals that had a strong need for family and nurturing. Owen mothered his heirloom tomatoes, while Cate turned to nurturing the mix of butter flour and eggs as a substitute for the the loss of her family. But at the end I felt like I had that wrong. While my fascination with Owen developed into a real “like”for him, my initial “really like” of Cate had cooled to a “hmmmm – who is this character.” By the end of the book, I “got” who Owen Cross was and why his story could only be told this way. I am still not sure I “got” who Cate was, but I have been thinking about it alot. How often does a book stay with you for a week, pondering over the plot twist and debating with yourself about it? I was troubled by it, confused by it, but ultimately I realized this was the way Cate’s story was meant to be.
I love the Cross Creek series and Ms.Kincaid’s writing – her books are always fabulous reads! This one was a five-star read up to the plot twist – do I take away a star for that? Shave off a point? After all, as the reader, I am not sure Cate is a deserving partner for Owen But an author knows her characters, and Ms. Kincaid has certainly mastered conveying her characters wishes on the pages. Owen and Cate wanted their story to be told this way and their definition of “family” to resonate with the readers. I may not be 100% percent sold on Cate, but this is the story is meant for Owen and Cate. When I think about it, this is the perfect end – or rather beginning, for these two.
