Slow, Southern second chances never burned so hot… ever,
he’ll let Emerson patch him up, good as new,
so he can get back to business.
Nice and easy.
Emerson Montgomery has secrets.
No way is she going to tell anyone why she left
her job as a hotshot physical therapist for a pro football team
to come back to Millhaven.
Especially not sexy, steady, still-pissed Hunter.
Except then she spends time with him.
Starts to trust him.
Definitely remembers why she fell for him.
But will her recent diagnosis of MS
keep her world upside down?
Or will she discover that second chances
really are sweeter…

From USA Today best-selling author Kimberly Kincaid comes a slow-drawl small-town second chance romance. Crossing Hearts contains a laid-back hero who works with his (ahem!) hands, a guarded heroine with a bruised heart, and a scorching standalone romance loaded with sexy, Southern HEA.

Hunter and Emerson will have readers swooning! Both of them love what they do, Hunter as part of the family farm and Emerson as a physical therapist. In order for them both to have what they wanted with their futures they were separated after being high school sweethearts. Needless to say neither one was thrilled when they were forced together right as Emerson got back into town after more than a decade away. As readers follow the evolving relationship between Hunter and Emerson they will grow to feel a deep empathy for Emerson and all she is struggling with, while wishing she would completely confide in Hunter, sooner than she does. Hunter is everything a woman could want or need in a man and together these two are sweet, sexy and so much fun to read!

In Crossing Hearts, the author combines a strong story thread, well developed characters with real problems, complex personalities and off the charts chemistry.
From the first page, I was immediately drawn in by the story of second chance love. Hunter Cross, the small town hero is a devoted farmer who has always known what and who he wants; and he wants Emerson – the girl he has loved since he set eyes upon her and to stay on the family farm in the small town they both grew up in.
Emerson Montgomery has secrets and there’s no way she is going to tell anyone why she left her job as a hotshot physical therapist for a pro football team to come back to Millhaven. A diagnosis of MS sends her back home to finally face down her fears and an unexpected chance to mend her own broken heart.
I loved these characters, Cross Creek and the small town of Millhaven and it’s quirky charm. I am so excited to read the remaining three books in this series.
I’m a sucker for second chance romance, and this one knocks it out of the park!
This book is so good I wish I could give it more than 5 stars! Hunter Cross and Emerson Montgomery were high school sweethearts who broke up when Emerson went away to college but now she is back in town and surprise Hunter walks into her physical therapy office after hurting his shoulder. Emerson is back and working with Doc Sanders as a PT and Hunter is her first patient. Four weeks of therapy is just what the doctor ordered. Not only does this bring them closer but it isn’t long before their friendship starts up and the undeniable chemistry flares. Too soon, though, the secret Emerson is keeping that brought her back to town comes out between them. Will that bring them closer or keep them apart? This second chance romance hits all the spots and had me laughing and crying and turning pages almost faster than I could read to the bottom of the page because I wanted to know what was going to happen next. I recommend this one and can hardly wait for the next in the series!
Crossing Hearts is the first in Kimberly Kincaid’s Cross Creek series. Hunter Cross and Emerson Montgomery have history. When Emerson up and moves back to Millhaven, it remains to be seen whether they have a future.
Beautifully written, Crossing Hearts is a fabulous contemporary with a farmer and a physical therapist who struggle a bit to confirm their place in the world and with each other. Their families and friends are equally well written, and Ms Kincaid deftly draws out their thoughts and emotions.
A stellar start to this series.
I love second chance romances as long as they have a happy ending and not a cliffhanger. Crossing Hearts provides both the second chance and the happy ending; but not without some work put in by both Hunter and Emerson.
So to be honest, it took me a minute to get accustomed to the name Emerson for a girl, but as the character developed, her name fit her well. She’s strong, smart, stubborn, but kindhearted and wants to belong to a loving family, unlike her controlling parents. Add in Hunter, who works on his family farm and his injury which puts them back in contact.
The development of the story-line is excellent, the characters don’t just meet again and fall back in love or straight into bed. They develop a working relationship, even though the chemistry is very obvious between them. Over a well developed plot, their relationship develops again as Emerson gets embroiled in Hunters physical therapy, life and his family.
Yet, here comes the plot twist, Emerson is unsure that Hunter can handle her real reason for returning home, her debilitating disease. And while she attempts to push Hunter away, he fights for her and they eventually get their love story and happy ending. I love a hero who will fight and pursue his heroine.
Crossing Hearts by Kimberly Kincaid is the first book in her new series Cross Creek. In this story we meet Emerson Montgomery who returns to her hometown after leaving her job as a physical therapist for a high profile football team in Las Vegas. Hunter Cross farms his family land in the foothills of the Shenandoah.
This is a second chance story for Emerson and Hunter who were high school sweethearts. It is also a story about the importance of being honest with those who care about you and respecting choices those people might make for you. Emerson’s concern about the consequences of her secret being discovered were not as important as her learning to trust those who care about her and love her. Hunter showered her with care and love after allowing her back into his life.
This was an entertaining story with very likeable and authentic characters that you want to cheer on, hoping for that happy ending. The characters were well written with complex characteristics. The story line was riveting and kept my attention to the very end. I appreciate reading books by Ms. Kincaid as she is a wonderful story teller. I am so looking forward to the next entry in this series and I can’t wait to see which characters Ms. Kincaid is planning to focus on her next book in this series. I highly recommend this book to other readers.
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.
Truly enjoyed this new writing style by Kimberly Kincaid I cannot wait to see what happens with the other brothers . I have a cousin with MS and it was so cool to see the heroine an how she battled the disease. Emerson and Hunter proved that love can conquer all a matter what obstacles are put in front of them. Their love for each other grew even with their years apart
Once again Kimberly Kincaid knocks it out of the park with Hunter and Emerson in Crossing Hearts, a fantastic second chance romance.
These two were high school sweethearts when they were younger, but Emerson broke things off when she left for college. Now she’s back in Cross Creek as a PT and is helping Hunter when he injures his shoulder. Their friendship starts to bloom again, but will secrets from the past tear these two apart once again?
This book was so well written, had me laughing and crying, and eating up the story from start to finish. I couldn’t put it down, and cannot wait for the next book in the series!
Received this book as an ARC and once I started I couldn’t put it down. Loved the small town story and could easily see myself as a character in this book. Great writing allowed me to visualize the story so clearly! Definitely going to read the next one too! I hope you all enjoy!
Hardworking Hunter gets a second chance at the girl who got away Emerson when she comes back to small town Millhaven. After more than a decade apart the sparks are there from the start but their slow burn takes some time to rekindle the romance. The family dynamics of the farm and the three brothers and dad who run it helped deepen the characters as did Emerson’s secret reason for leaving Vegas behind and returning to the hometown she swore she would never come back to. He’s still small town and she’s been in the big city a long time, but the tension between them was both sexy and sweet and had you routing for them all along.
I received an ARC in exchange for my opinion and review.
Emerson left just as Hunter was proposing. He thought they’d be together forever. Why did she leave?
Hunter stayed and did what was expected of him, until he has an unexpected injury. A quintessential good guy, compassionate, loving, and family centric.
This was such a great book. Past memories being overwritten with present day feelings. Will the issues of long ago be able to be put aside to work on the new relationship?
So many things happening in this book. Second chances. High school romance. Small town gossip. All the feels through out the book. If you like, or like me, LOVE small town romance, this book is for you. There are so many different tropes represented, this book just makes you laugh one moment and cry the next…so good!!
Emerson had come back to town under not so nice circumstances but no one knows why. She works a physical therapist and takes on Hunter as a client much to his deterrence.
Slow build with sweet moments and sad moments. The chemistry certainly is there between Hunter and Emerson and the dynamic although unpleasant as first, gets sweeter as time and familiarity comes back. Well written with wonderful characters.
This was an ARC and this is my honest reviews.
I was very interested in reading Crossing Hearts being this is one of my first reads having to deal with farmers. I come from a farm background, so I understand all the hard work and time that gets put in to make sure they are successful and can make a living. To be honest the book was kind of slow for me, but it was a truly touching story. The story revolves around Emerson Montgomery and Hunter Cross, who were high school sweethearts to having gone their separate ways because of Emerson’s dreams were not what Hunter was wanting at the time of high school graduation. We see Emerson become successful but is forced to return to her hometown after her diagnosis of MS where low and behold her first physical therapy patient is with her high school sweetheart Hunter Cross. Through the book we watch Emerson and Hunter revive a friendship and slowly rebuild their feelings from their past together. Also, we find them fighting through struggles of secrets that they will need to work together to get through to build a future and relationship again. The book does not have a cliffhanger and had a HEA, looking forward to the next books in the series. I won an ARC for the “re-release” in exchange for an honest review.
Emerson has left a very high profile job as a physical therapist with a pro football team. and has returned to her home town as a part-time PT. Hunter reinjures his rotator cuff, and as he needs PT, he ends up working with Emerson. They are both shocked to see one another — seems they’d been high school sweethearts, but she left, leaving him behind. There’s still a spark, but Hunter notices that something about Emerson is a bit ‘off’; she evidently hiding something. He’s hoping however, that her being back in town might mean there’s a second chance for a relationship. There’s a lot of angst, love, and forgiveness in their story. I can’t wait to read the rest in the series.
Second-chance, small-town romance? Yes, please. Add two main characters who used to be high school sweethearts until one of them left town breaking the other’s heart. I mean, I’m a sucker for a second chance with a love interest from the past.
Kimberly Kincaid offers a refreshing and different story, with characters who feel real. Emerson left after Hunter proposed. He hasn’t been able to forget nor forgive her. Yet, she is back after having left his high-profile job as a physical therapist with a professional football team. Imagine his surprise when Hunter hurts his shoulder and is sent to PT, finding the very person who broke her heart.
Emerson has been diagnosed with MS, which the author presents in a respectful yet superb way that opens eyes, leaving nothing behind. The way Hunter and Emerson reconnect is mesmerizing and angsty. And while the story was a bit too slow at times, it works! This is a great read.
Crossing Hearts (Cross Creek #1) was originally released in 2017. I didn’t read the previous version so not sure on differences, if any, just what this version holds in store.
This is a small town, second chance romance between Emerson and Hunter. They had been high school sweethearts, but Emerson felt she had to leave town to follow her dreams. Now she’s back, and dealing with a significant health issue, and Hunter is the only one she can confide in. Why is he still so handsome, and so very angry with her?
Hunter is a small town man, loves living and working in Millhaven. He can say he wouldn’t change a thing but maybe his lingering anger toward the girl that left him brokenhearted. He is surprised to see her back in town and isn’t sure if rekindling a friendship is the right plan. But always a “fixer” he can’t help himself when it looks like she needs him more than ever.
4.5 solid stars for this re-release, can’t wait to find out more about the residents in Cross Creek.
I liked Crossing Hearts, by Kimberly Kincaid, a lot. It was well-written and pretty well edited. While it took a bit to get into it, once I did, the action flowed smoothly and pulled me along with it. The characters were well-developed, even the secondary ones (which made me very motivated to find the rest of the books in the series.) While a second chance at love is a familiar trope, the details in the story were fresh and interesting. The heroine’s challenges and her profession were solidly grounded in reality, giving her life and substance. Too many times, characters are sketchily drawn, just hooks from which to hang the romance and sex. These characters were much more real. It’s always reassuring to know a HEA is coming, but the journey in Crossing Hearts is the point. It’s a good satisfying one.
I received a free ARC for review. All my options are my own and are presented voluntarily and without pressure.
Loved it! A great second chance romance. Kimberly Kincaid is one of those authors where they suck you in from the first page and you can’t put it down until the last page. Then you are disappointed that the story is over because you just want it to go on and on.
I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.
A good book. I felt for Emerson and Hunter, and I’m a fan of a second-chance!
