Slow, Southern second chances never burned so hot… ever,
he’ll let Emerson patch him up, good as new,
so he can get back to business.
Nice and easy.
Emerson Montgomery has secrets.
No way is she going to tell anyone why she left
her job as a hotshot physical therapist for a pro football team
to come back to Millhaven.
Especially not sexy, steady, still-pissed Hunter.
Except then she spends time with him.
Starts to trust him.
Definitely remembers why she fell for him.
But will her recent diagnosis of MS
keep her world upside down?
Or will she discover that second chances
really are sweeter…

Emerson ‘s story is heartfelt and sad at times. She had to leave her love (Hunter) behind and couldn’t tell him why. But she has her chance years later, if she’ll only step out and take it. This is a wonderful story and is very moving. I received a free copy of this book and I am voluntarily leaving a honest review.
I couldn’t put it down!
Crossing Hearts is the captivating and entertaining story of Hunter and Emerson as they get a second chance at love. Ms. Kincaid uses a compassionate touch as she addresses the issues surrounding the MS in Emerson’s life, both real and perceived. The reader gets a taste of small town life, and a spicy romance, too! The differences between the way Hunter’s family treat each other and Emerson’s family dynamics are striking and heartbreaking.
This is an excellent book, and I can’t wait to read the rest of the series.
Hunter and Emerson get a second chance. When Hunter hurts his shoulder and needs physical therapy, he is shocked by who his therapist is. Emerson left him twelve years ago. Why is she back? He agrees to work with her and she slowly lowers her defenses with him. Emerson has had the shock of her life. She has been diagnosed with ms. She must change her way of living and working but hasn’t told anyone about her diagnosis. What will happen when she does?
Crossing Hearts is the first Kimberly Kincaid book I have read, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Hunter Cross is a great guy. He was in love with Emerson, who left for college after high school and broke Hunter’s heart. It is now 12 years later, and Emerson returns with secrets. How those secrets play into their love story will grab your attention and hold it until the very end. I can’t wait to read more of Ms. Kinkaid’s books!
I loved Emerson and Hunter’s story, but I truly am a sucker for second chances. 12 years ago she left and left Hunter broken hearted. Then all of a sudden she was back, as the physical therapist that is responsible for helping Hunter get back to working on the farm. The sparks are still flying and the scenes are HOT between them. You can literally feel the anger, want and need while reading the book! The storyline drew me in because I have a family member with MS. Kimberly did well describing the mental and physical challenges they face each day.
This is book one of the Cross Creek series and is very well written and a quick read. This is a second chance I have always loved you story that I could not put down. Truly a must-read if you love small-town romances with the perfect happy ending.
Hunter and Emerson dated in high school. Then she broke his heart and ran out of town to get away from her parents. Twelve years later, she’s back in town and hiding the real reason why. Hunter is patient, kind, and too understanding. Emerson continues to push him away.
This is a well written and enjoyable, sweet and sexy second chance romance with a great storyline.
A great start to a new series.
Recommend
Loved this second chance romance.
Hunter and Emerson have history. Emerson knew if she didn’t leave she would be stuck under her parents. Hunter didn’t realize the pressure. 12 years later, Emerson is back and they have another chance.
Such a good story!
This is a re-release, but its the first read for me, so happy camper. I enjoyed this one. It had all the feels, family, sexual tension, secrets, renewing friendships and meeting up with the one you walked away from. I did want to reach out and just smack Emerson, I get the secret, but enough was enough, you could have told him much sooner. Beyond that I had no complaints. I loved the way Hunter stepped up and put the word out so things started happening. All the family dynamics of Hunters family and I knew book 2 would be just as good. (ready for it 🙂 )Emerson’s parents – well, I had a hard time with them to, but there appeared to be some progress there. Small town, steam and love. Win. Thank you for the arc, I freely volunteer my thoughts and opinions.
Emerson and Hunter were high school sweethearts until Emerson left after graduation breaking Hunter’s heart. Fast forward 12 years and Emerson has left everything to return to their small town as a physical therapist. As luck would have it Hunter is her first client due to an accident he had while working on his family’s farm. Along the way they begin to develop a new friendship but their chemistry can’t be ignored which leads to some seriously steamy times.
Watching these two come together while overcoming their past and facing new challenges is absolutely beautiful. This story is a sweet slow-burn, with plenty of steamy times and enough heart to keep you turning the page begging for more!
Emerson has moved back to her hometown after 12 years. She is adjusting to living with a MS diagnosis that makes her feel broken and unworthy based on how she was treated by her parents. She is establishing a physical therapy practice in town and her first and only patient is Hunter Cross who was her high school boyfriend. She broke his heart when she turned down his marriage proposal after high school graduation.
Hunter needs physical therapy for a shoulder injury caused by an accident on the family farm. The last thing he wants is to have Emerson be his physical therapist, but she’s the only one in town and he doesn’t want to take the time to drive the extra distance to the next town.
Working close together has them slowly talking and eventually sharing details with other. It doesn’t take very long for them to recognize their past romantic relationship is reviving. Emmerson tries to ignore her MS diagnosis and just keep her head up and moving forward, but her MS flare ups and her reaction to her drug protocol is intense, exhausting and overwhelming.
Hunter and Emmerson belong together and were able to put their past hurt behind them and have an adult relationship. The Cross family dynamics are interesting with the brothers working so close together in the farm yet Hunter’s two brothers can trigger each other to near blows over the craziest things. They both seem to have an interesting story to share in future books.
I received an ARC from the author and I am voluntarily leaving a review.
Emerson and Hunter were high school sweethearts but Emerson left after graduation with no plan to ever come back. She manages to fulfill her dream and gets a job with a professional football team. When life doesn’t play fair, she quits her job to go home to her small hometown to work with the local doctor. As she starts to build her practice, her first patient is none other than Hunter. The sparks are still there between them and it would be so easy to pick up where they were if it weren’t for her secret. As they spend more time together, she’s welcomed back into town and the lives of Hunter and his family, which happen to be so opposite of hers and something she really needs. Emerson finally opens up to Hunter and he helps her repair the relationship with her family and is really her strength in the tough times. These two are so perfect together and make you cheer them on to get back together. Enjoyed this book so much and it kept me turning pages to see how things would work out! I received an ARC of the re-issue of this book and am voluntarily leaving my review.
Hunter and Emerson were sizzling hot. Teenage loves that find a second chance later on. There was some definite drama with her parents and a lot of anger, frustration, hurt and distrust. I was totally jealous of the hand massages and I really want one now along with going to the farmers market. Hunters family is just very awesome. He is soo close to them it’s really amazing and everyone has everyone’s back even if they’re mad at them. Emerson needs this especially now. She needs to feel the support and the love from this family to make up for her lack in her own. I fell in love with this town we’ll except for the gossip. But this town the people are supportive and rally for someone who needs it. I’m so happy Hunter acted out of character and went after his lost love. There was a lot that happened that neither of them were aware of at the time. I read this book in one day. It went by quickly and before I knew it was dinner time and I had finished it. It is a great small town story. Love to read these second chances and you can see the steaminess a mile away with two characters. I can’t wait to read The next book.
Twelve years ago, Emerson left for college leaving everything behind her, vowing never to return to the small town she came from. One of those ‘things’ was Hunter Cross, who loved Emerson and wanted to stay in Milhaven on the farm he ran with his brothers. But for reasons he was never sure off, Emerson turned her back on him, Milhaven and never looked back. She became a physiotherapist with one of the top ice hockey teams in the league and was in a relationship with one of the teams stars. Until one day she left it all behind, headed back to small town Milhaven and tried to start all over again, all the while keeping a secret from those around her. When her first new patient is the same Hunter Cross, who’s heart she broke all those years ago, she wonders how anything could get any worse. But Hunter turns out to be a wonderful friend, who still feels that spark, but can he get Emerson to open up, let down her walls and give them another chance? As details of Emerson’s relationship with her family come out, how she feels that she is not good enough for them, how no matter what she does, she thinks they will always see her as broken or lacking, Emerson feels she must keep her secret even more. As Hunter brings Emerson into his family, helping out with Cross Creek Farm, being part of the business, Emerson’s walls start to come down and she slowly starts to open up to him. When Hunter accidentally lets it slip that she is sick, Emerson feels that she can no longer trust him and asks him to go away. Is this the end once again? Can Emerson and Hunter find a way to work this out?
Crossing Hearts is book #1 of the Cross Creek series by Kimberly Kincaid. A second chance, slow burn contemporary romance told from both points of view, with HEA ending. Trope: small town
Emerson Montgomery had achieved her goal of being a successful physical therapist working for a pro football team, but after her MS diagnosis she goes back to her hometown of Millhaven where she’ll have to face her still angry ex and even more handsome than ever, Hunter Cross. She just never thought she’d see him as a patient, and after twelve years she’s still affected by him.
Hunter has always loved the small town life and is happy working in his family’s farm with his brothers and father, the only thing missing is the girl that left him brokenhearted. But now she’s back and their chemistry never died down. But trust isn’t so easily regained especially when Emerson is keeping secrets from the past and present.
Hunter and Emerson’s story is heartwarmingly sweet and steamy. I loved Hunter’s family and Emerson’s friend Daisy. I can’t wait to read more from this series.
Multiple sclerosis (MS) is debilitating and can strike anyone. While some cases are “mild” others are extremely life alternating and even fatal. I have never read a romance novel that addresses this and I commend Kimberly Kincaid for doing so in Crossing Hearts.
I applaud Ms Kincaid’s portrayal of Emerson Montgomery who was just recently diagnosed with MS…coming to grips with the fact that your life is irrevocably changed is tough, having to give up your dream job and move back to your small hometown and take a less stressful position (albeit still in your field) is difficult enough. Having little or no support as you find your new path, one that you didn’t choose, is tough. Trying to hide it from everyone is…almost impossible.
But the bright light for Emerson is reconnecting with Hunter Cross, her former boyfriend. Emerson is a physical therapist and Hunter is referred to her care after a farming accident. Without giving any spoilers here, it was enjoyable watching how they slowly built a trusting friendship, helping one another despite past hurts and current stressful circumstances. Will their friendship lead to more?
While the topic is dire, the characters are well developed and the supporting characters, especially Hunter’s brothers and father, add to the depth of the story, all making this a wonderful story!
Not your typical cowboy book I will say that. Hunter and Emerson are high school sweethearts who unfortunately lose touch when Emerson gets out of her small town, that does not stop the sparks from flying when she comes back into town on her own accord due to health reasons. Hunter helps her learn that it is ok to ask for help and no one is going to judge you for that. Emerson learns that her family isn’t as hard as she thinks they are, while it takes them time to adjust to the circumstances they have her back more than she knew. A story where everyone learns from each other and it strengthens all the parties involved.
A Second chance love between high school sweethearts. After a bad shoulder injury, Hunter must have physical therapy. Big surprise when he find out that is PT will be is old flame. The chemistry is there but Emerson is keeping a secret. She doesn’t want anybody to know about her multiple sclerosis. Easy to read. Steamy and page-turner. I received a arc in exchange for a honest review.
This is a good book, but part of me was heart broken for Emerson and her disease. It had to be so hard for Emerson to come back to her small town, especially with her ex love Hunter there. Her parents are rich and seemed very snobbish and liked to tell Emerson what to do. I was glad that Emerson was a physical therapist since Hunter needed one and she was his best hope. They had to work together everyday for four weeks. There are some tender moments between Hunter and Emerson throughout the book. Hunter’s family were wonderful to be around except when Hunter’s two brothers were fighting, I enjoyed the book and encourage you to read it, I was given a copy and voluntarily wrote a review.
