Boys and girls can’t be just friends. A lie made up by overprotective fathers afraid of the illustrious teenage boy and his uncontrollable hormones. Reid and I were the exception to the rule. Best friends. A friendship bound with the spit in our palms and the gospel of a crossed heart. I lasted four years before the cliche caught me. Another four before my truth surged forward with an attempt at … with an attempt at a kiss and a drunken confession.
Ten years on, Reid Rivere is Hollywood’s golden boy. Ten years on, and I, Roxy Monroe have found myself embroiled in another cliche… at least I’m consistent.
Men and women can’t be just friends. I’m starting to learn that the hard way.

FOR THE LOVE OF GOD!
Bring me the shots of tequila because I’m so d*mn thirsty after reading this book.
But first, someone really needs to explain me what just happened here lol
How did I not read these authors before?
After reading the last few pages, I know there is not turning back now. There is no way I would deprive myself of reading all the books these two authors had released till now.
“I want to kiss the girl that used to be my best friend”
If you ever had feelings for a best friend, you know how complex and difficult is to have an unrequited love and how guilty you could feel for having those feelings. To know that if you let those feelings be free, it could mean the destruction of a friendship. Haley Jenner were capable of encapsulate that marvelous relationship between Reid and Roxy in a very, very real way.
We all were young and stupid at some of our lives, and Reid is not the exception. Trying to deal with the complexity of his best friend feelings, he loses focus of the most important part of their relationship, breaking the tender heart of Roxy in the process.
I must say that I adored Reid since day one. From personal experience, I can honestly say that I met someone like him in the past. Moreover, it wasn’t strange for me to see how difficult for him it was to be so close to someone till the point of being without that special person, was unbearable.
His qualities are to die for. He is loyal to the bone. Caring with the ones he loves and a driving force when he wants to reach his dreams. He doesn’t picture himself as prince charming. However, he owns his flaws in the best he can.
“You were the first half of my forever and you’ll be the second half of it too”
I think the strongest one in this story is Roxy.
Loving someone so deeply without voicing those feelings, literally can kill you from the inside out. Roxy, even knowing she will have to pay a price for stopping the lies surrounding her friendship with Reid, decides to show him that she is after his heart. But the aftermath is devastating for both.
Just by saying she loved him when she was eighteen is enough proof to consider her stronger than she give herself credit. But mostly is the fact that she overcomes the bullying, the insults and the death threats just by being in the public eye.
“To the people who offer compliments without agenda, to the people who choose to build others up instead of pulling them down. I see you, fireflies. I see you lighting the way.”
This book definitely shows us that no matter how much negativity we can find in this world, we can’t let others dictate how we feel about ourselves. We can’t let them take away from us our happiness. And that’s how Roxy is determinate to face the ugliness in her world by making people see that she can beat everything because she is surrounded by love.
I think there are very strong messages in this story that give more value to this book. It’s not just about a friends to lovers story. It’s essentially about loving yourself and accept your imperfections. Love without inhibitions and live your life to the fullest without worrying how others see you because your happiness doesn’t have a price.
An exquisite writing that grabs your attention by the very beginning. Characters that will have a place in your heart like no other. The perfect pace to make you FEEL and be obsessed with this fantastic story and so much more is what Haley Jenner has in store for you with Cross Your Heart.
This is one of my best reads this year, through and through.
“Reid is the right level of disinterested and the wrong amount of beautiful. It’s the worst kind of heartache, being loved by someone so completely in the wrong way.”
Can I be honest? Cross Your Heart broke my heart. The story is told in dual POV from the time Reid & Roxy are 10 yrs old. They became the best of friends, their bond sealed with a spit-shake. I can’t blame Roxy for breaking the rule. Truthfully, I’m just as guilty… I fell in love with him too.
When Reid walked out of her life I was devastated right along with Roxy. I was hurt on her behalf. I wanted him to suffer a bit, you know, to balance the pain a little. Do you feel me? I wanted him to miss her. To want her. To fix what was broken. Yeah, I wanted a happily-ever-after. Sue me.
In case you are wondering, Roxy, is badass. I adore her. She is so strong. She keeps getting knocked down, but she gets back up every time. Her sense of humor remains and she doesn’t stop fighting for the future she dreamed of as a kid. But, she’s doing it alone now.
When Reid left he pursued his passion…without her. He was successful. In his career, but not in forgetting the best friend he left behind. When their paths cross again ten years later they are both different. Grown-up and hardened by life. Seeing clearer and trusting less. The memories haven’t faded over time. They know what they had, and lost. Can she accept that having him in her life as a friend is better than not at all? Or, has he finally come around to understanding that being just friends is no longer an option? Does crossing your heart make it stop hurting? Does crossing your fingers behind your back turn a lie into the truth? Could I love this story any harder than I already do? Hell no! It’s perfect.
OMG! This book was phenomenal !!! This was my first book I read by this amazing duo and I can’t believe it’s taken me this long to read them when I have 2 of their books sitting on my kindle that I will be reading ASAP ! I’m a sucker for friends to lovers romance and this book was definitely everything I anticipated and more. I mean this was a really well written romance with well developed characters even the supporting characters like Brooke and Ari made this story such a wonderful reading experience that I truly enjoyed ! I definitely recommend reading this book and if your new to them like me than this is a wonderful start ! I CANT SAY ENOUGH ABOUT THIS BOOK !!!! DEFINITELY 5 MAGICAL STARS .
I voluntarily reviewed an advanced complimentary copy of this book
This book has such a beautiful and powerful meaning behind the actual story itself. The underlining message about bullying people when you don’t know the circumstances is wrong no matter what was perfect. I adored that Roxy went through such horrible things but stood tall and even the strongest people can break at times. It made it seem so real that I hurt when she did, and I broke when she broke. The authors draw you in and take you on an emotional rollercoaster that you don’t want to end.
Roxy and Reid have been friends since they were 10 years old and Roxy walks up to a socially awkward loner, Reid and she declares they are best friends now. They then make a pact no falling in love with each other but as we know the heart wants what the heart wants. Roxy falls for him and tells him one night and of course Reid is angry and confused. Reid lashes out at her and I wanted to be mad at him because he tells her she’s ruined everything then leaves and they don’t speak for 10 years, but as I read the story I realized that Reid couldn’t help lashing out and yes he may have handled it wrong but he was only a teenager and teen years are already confusing so he can’t take full blame. These two had such a connection you could feel the heartache that Roxy endured and has been enduring since that one night, I felt my own heart break because the authors put you in the story that the emotions were tangible. After years apart they come back together but how do they navigate this new awkwardness. There is a lot that Roxy has to endure, and I admired her tenacity to dust her shoulders off and carry on as if she didn’t care. The authors made this book truly unique you will see when you read the book by the “posts” in between chapters because it truly shows instead of just telling you how awful people and social media can be. I loved everything about this book, Reid and Roxy trying to figure out their place in each other’s live now that all this time has passed, their love for each other, what they are willing to endure for each other, and Roxy standing up for herself, but above all this the authors shine a light on how bullying behind a keyboard can truly hurt and that it is not ok to put others down just because you see what the media shows it doesn’t mean it’s true and you shouldn’t judge others for any reason at all. This was beautifully done with a romance story woven in. I truly hope we get an Ari story he was an amazing person.
Cross my heart this is one of the most inspirational and positive stories that I have read this year. A love story intertwined with a friendship that was half of a forever. Reid and Roxy’s story was angsty and had me on the edge of my seat. I wasn’t sure if their story would end the way I wanted or if I would have to accept that a promise made as children would be all I would get. The tears welled up in my eyes for the time that was lost and the words that were said to hurt. Words cut deep and sometimes from the outside we don’t see the scars that these leave on our hearts, our soul and our mind. This story even though at times was filled with the nastiness that our world lives under, also gave me hope and was like that big warm hug that you crave when you need it most. Reid and Roxy soothed my soul, made my heart light and filled me with the positivity of beautiful words and love. Just like the meaning behind the nickname Reid gave Roxy, this story was illuminating and nothing short of truly majestic.
It’s been hours since I finished Cross Your Heart by Haley Jenner, and I am still thinking about it, still affected by it.
I’ve read a lot of books that made me cry. I’m talking big fat ugly tears. But Cross Your Heart was like a stream of heartbreak that somehow Haley Jenner unearthed from my soul.
I didn’t have a boy best friend growing up like Roxy did Reid in this story, but that didn’t matter. It was as if every emotion Roxy had was plucked from me and put on the page disguised as someone else. How does Haley Jenner seem to do this? How do they take characters that seem to have nothing in common with the reader yet make us feel completely tied to them?
Reid and Roxy’s isn’t just a second chance friends to lovers story; it’s a story about learning to love yourself. Cross Your Heart is going to grab ahold of your heart and hold on long after you’re done.
Cross Your Heart will pull at your heartstrings and make you teary eyed at times! Reid and Roxy will take you on a journey that starts out as best friend’s at the age of 10yrs to breaking down at 18yrs and coming back together 10yrs later! I felt so much for Roxy fighting back from those bullies to become so much stronger! Truly can best friend’s just be friend’s? I really loved Brooke and Ari’s characters would loved to get a story for these two, together or not!
Cross Your Heart by Haley Jenner is a heartwarming and thought provoking story. It’s a story of a childhood friendship which turns into unrequited love and then heartbreak. It’s a story of second chances. It also deals with deeper topics of social media, online bullying and the world’s obsession with Hollywood celebrities. It really makes you think twice about the way that we view those that are in the “public eye” while sometimes forgetting that they are regular people just like the rest of us.
I am a sucker for a best friends to lovers romance. Throw in a stage where they’re enemies and I get all kinds of giddy. If he also happens to be a dirty talker then ding, ding, ding – we’ve got a winner!!!
Reid and Roxy are the best of friends. Childhood BFFs sworn to be each other’s person until the end of days. A kiss ruins everything and hearts get broken. Unbreakable bonds are shattered and futures altered. Haley Jenner captured that exquisite pain of being a teenager and loving someone you can’t have so perfectly I felt an ache in my chest reading this one. Can I just say that Reid also gives Roxy a nickname that had me swooning like a MOFO & he had zero idea what it did to this poor teenage girl’s heart! Gah! Teenage boys are the WORST!
A decade of mistakes and loneliness pass before they cross paths again but it’s not the reunion either envisioned. Nope. It’s so much more! I yelled, I ranted, I might have even threatened the authors at certain points because these two made me legit crazy. I wanted to slap them, hug them and then hump Reid! I also got super emotional when the book touched on real world issues such as cyber bullying and the filth that social media can become.
A shout out needs to be given to the supporting characters in this one who made this such a rich reading experience – I have already put in my list of demands for who else needs their story told.
To sum it up, if that’s even possible, it’s a beautifully told love story that gives an honest account of what fear can make you miss out on. What it means when loving someone the wrong way is just as bad as not loving them at all. My Reading Heart is HAPPY!!!
Loved every second of it!
Fabulous story of best friends Reid and Roxy. Bff’s to enemies follows their dreams, perils and pitfalls to the ultimate HEA. A love story with life’s important lessons
This book is AMAZING, takes you on a journey of childhood friendship to love. Reid and Roxy’s ride is covers every emotion and its everything.
Haley Jenner write books that make you feel, every book, every time I think they can’t get any better – they do!!
Please take the time to read this book, you will not reget it
Just brilliant! You are paving the way to being one of the best at leaving a huge impression with the power of your words. I loved the unique style in which this book was written.
This is the story of Roxy and Reid – Reid and Roxy inseparable childhood friends but that relationship was severed the night of their prom. As kids they shared the mutual dream of making it big in Hollywood and we are taken on a journey of all that is good, bad and ugly and what a great story it was.
I really enjoyed this beautifully written book it was very emotional at times but also filled with humour with the help of some awesome side characters that will make you fall instantly in love with their dedication to their friendship, their strength. I hope we get more of Brooke, Ari and Baxter. (Yes there is “this pretty epic thing called an apology”)
I loved the interaction with the instagram posts it was new and very creative. This author ticks all the boxes every single time, fantastic read, I took it nice and slow and let the love and the heat of Reid and Roxy seep through my pores. Sooooo… just a bit “louder for the people in the back” you really need to read this book!
I don’t think I have the words to articulate how much I loved this book, but I’m going to try. Reid and Roxy are everything. I was sucked into this story from the moment they met at the age of ten and was wholly enamored with this world until the very last page.
I loved everything about this story, from the supporting characters to the real way it discussed social issues. Cross Your Heart is my first Haley Jenner book, and it’s easily one of my favorite reads of the year.
Personally am not a fan of friends to lovers tropes because they are most of the time too sweet a romance for me. This book thoroughly surprised me. In my opinion, it’s more of friends to lovers, friends to enemies and back to friends to lovers romance. Confusing? Yes but it makes for a great read!
This story starts out pretty cute, Roxy and Reid are young kids. Reid is a loner but Roxy finagled herself into his life whether he likes it or not and decides at that moment that they are going to best friends and Reid sealed their BFF status with a spit shake. Gross right, but so cute.
There is a bullying twist in this story and that’s the twist that took me by surprise and it’s what made me really fall in love with this story. Social media and cyber bullying and how it can impact lives of the people on the receiving end. The emotions and turmoil that this writing duo puts you through while reading this is makes this story very real.
I loved Roxy and Reid they were both really special characters and i loved them both. I loved both families and Brooke as well she was so good they were so prominent in this story, I love the friendship that they had and they really had great chemistry for friends.
Overall, I loved this book, I loved the main characters, the secondary characters, the unique storyline and I love the cover.
Job well done ladies!!!
“Reid is the right level of disinterested and the wrong amount of beautiful. It’s the worst kind of heartache, being loved by someone so completely in the wrong way.”
Loved the heroine! Wasn’t keen on the hero. He took whatever he wanted, whenever he wanted it and with minimal effort.
I found myself interested in the ‘background bullying sceene’. And I loved the way the heroine handled it.

I loved Roxy and Reid’s story.
This is my first book by this duo and I am glad I decided to give it a try.
I enjoyed reading about Roxy and Reid and their journey from being friends to lovers.
I loved the slow burn, the angst and the transition. I think it was well-done.
I also liked how they portrayed a part of Hollywood and how they included cyberbullying in their story. I particularly loved the IG posts incorporated in the book.
I will definitely read more from them.
