In all of Alex Cross’s years with Homicide, Washington, DC, has never been more dangerous.
After shots pierce the tranquil nighttime calm of Rock Creek Park, a man is dead: what looks at first like road rage might be something much more sinister. But Alex has only just begun asking questions when he’s called across town to investigate a new murder, one that hits close to home: Washington’s own … Washington’s own chief of detectives. And Alex’s former boss, beloved mentor of Alex’s wife, Bree.
Now there’s a killer on the loose, a long list of possible suspects, a city in panic, and nobody in charge of the besieged police force.
Until Bree gets tapped for the job.
As Bree scrambles to find her footing and close two high-profile cases, new violence stuns the capital. What should be a time for her to rely on Alex for support and cooperation is instead a moment of crisis in their marriage as well as their city when their investigative instincts clash and their relationship reaches a breaking point.
And the fiendish mind behind all the violence has appointed himself judge, jury, and executioner, with a terrifying master plan he’s only begun to put in motion. To beat him at his own game, Alex and Bree must take the law back into their own hands before he puts them both out of commission…permanently.

Set in Washington, DC, we follow Alex Cross as he and wife Bree Stone work to chase and capture the perpetrators of the greatest massacres the East Coast has seen.
The latest in a series that is constantly threatening to end, this book stands well on its own. The pace is fast and the procedural elements engaging rather than boring. The peek into Cross’ personal life is enhanced with knowledge of the backstory, but it isn’t necessary.
Fight scenes are taught, the mystery leaves clues for the reader without telegraphing them. All around, would recommend.
This is the latest installment in the Alex Cross series by James Patterson. I love James Patterson’s books. They’re fast paced and keep you on the edge of your seat until the very end. Alex Cross is a cop with the DC Metro Police and his wife Bree also works for the DCPD. They take down the bad guys at work and have a loving home with their children Damon, Jannie and Ali while being watch over by Cross’ no nonsense grandmother, Nana Mama.
Disappointed since once again James Patterson left us hanging at the end of the book. This is becoming the authors norm now. If you want the conclusion to the story you have to buy the next book!
Same old same old from Patterson
Alex Cross is one of my favorites characters…try to read all Patterson’s Alex Cross books
Awesome book
If you like the Alex Cross series then you will want to read this one for sure. I have had some issues with a couple of the books before this but this one is pure Alex Cross with family and friends goodness. A lot going on in this one with 2 different story lines and was fast paced but not rushed.
Another good Alex Cross story.
Kept me interested
I’ve read the whole series except the last one and this is the most engrossing one I can recall. Read 48% the first night, where I usually take a week to finish one.
I have a lot of books waiting to be read. But the ones I have read are really good.
I still have 12 books to read, so I will not have time to respond to any rating request until I am done. I am selective with my authors as I know their books are good and recommendable.
Thanks
Insane, nerve racking and wanted to grab and shake the first suspect. I never thought that the shooter was slick to out do his friend. Dr. Cross and his team was set out on a wild goose chase at first.
I have never been disappointed by an Alex Cross book and this one did nothing to change that trend. In some books you know right off who did it and you spend your time trying to catch the villain but this time it takes a long time to figure out who and why.
I have enjoyed reading the Alex Cross series for years. I can’t put them down once I start reading.
I read each and every one of his books they keep my attention he is a good author.. also I hate riding these reviews….
Great book outstanding series!
I always like Alex Cross
All of Patterson’s Cross novels are action packed. This one is no exception
James Patterson has come through once again with an action packed, terror filled mystery. He is the master
I love all the Alex Cross books. They are exciting and easy to get into the story.
