A sexy drummer and a rock god’s daughter on tour together for the summer… what could possibly go wrong?IndieWhen Cross Rhodes from Courting Chaos mistakes me for a groupie and tries to kick me out of the venue, I remind myself that touring with my dad isn’t always easy. I don’t fall for rock stars—ever but Cross makes me want to break all the rules. Summer fun crashes around me when I discover … fun crashes around me when I discover one of the openers prefers his women too young. Unfortunately for him, intimidation doesn’t keep me quiet.
Cross
Opening for Kissing Cinder is the break my band needs and none of us can mess this up. Then I try to remove a hot, sassy blonde from the venue and now I can’t get her off my mind. Indie’s off limits. The daughter of a man that can make or break us. What the hell am I thinking?
The only thing I know for sure is that I will protect Indie from my bass player at all costs.

Cross (Courting Chaos Book One) Firstly, I love the cover & title as it’s very tuneful. Main character’s are vibrant with tranquil devine names. The synopsis leads into a fun, entertaining, witty read. The narrative is well polished along with supporting character’s that are well seasoned & accentuate the romance. A slow burning romance, a bit of music, & touring on the road that leads into a suspense read with twists. I’m looking forward to reading the next novel in this series.
I really enjoyed reading this one. I loved the plot! I also loved the father/daughter aspect. I loved how the author spent the time on the relationship of Indie and Cross rather than the sexual aspect. I loved he was different and not the “typical” rockstar. I can’t wait to read the other books in this series!
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advance copy of this book for Hidden Gems.
What started as a case of mistaken identity sets the course between Cross Rhodes a member of Courting Chaos band and Indie, daughter of rock legend Vince Cinderstone. Once they clear the issue their instant attraction sizzles and as chemistry heats up they can no longer deny their connection. Will they find their HEA with all the drama surrounding them? One click to find out in this first book in a rock romance that doesn’t disappoint.
Very good, but a little predictable
I liked the beginning of Cross and Indie’s story, with their meeting that makes them more enemies than friends. However, the rest of their romance is more predictable.
The story takes place in the mood of a rock band tour, and all the questions that may arise in one night stand relationships or longer that this situation can create, intersect. Note, there are twists and turns due to a less reliable rock band member who carries a plot along the story.

Young love, rock romance
Cross (Courting Chaos Book 1) by Heather Young-Nichols, a young love/new adult romance, a little enemies to lovers, in an up & coming Rock Band setting. Indie is a strong independent young woman well versed in the rock and roll life style as the daughter of a famous rock star. Cross, the drummer of the opening band for her dad’s tour, looks like hottie bad boy rock star he is. Inside, Cross is sweet, tender and heartfelt while also alpha enough to bring the heat to steam this book up enough to melt.
I really enjoyed this book, the first I’ve read by this author. The plot made it exciting, adding an air of danger through the antagonist. As the first book of the Courting Chaos series, I enjoyed the preview of other characters (the Courting Chaos Band) and some hints of what else is to come in future books. Without giving too much away, I have a feeling Book 2 is going to be a very fun read!
Overall, the rock and roll tour setting keeps things interesting while Indie and Cross engage the heart with their love story and optimism in the HFN ending that could also be interpreted as a HEA.
I read an ARC of this book via Hidden Gems and voluntarily share my review.
Great Rock Romance
Wow!! I loved this rock romance with a rock star’s daughter and the drummer for an opening band on tour with them. Indie visited her dad in the summers touring the country with his band, Kissing Cinder. Cross was more than ready for his band, Courting Chaos, to take the next step.
Cross and Indie met backstage with neither of them knowing who the other was. Cross was trying to kick Indie out from back stage and she was the ever feisty young woman who wasn’t intimidated much. She was just backstage doing what she loved most and that was taking pictures.
Also backstage that day she had met Courting Chaos’ bassist, Drink. He gave her that gut feeling that she knew had never failed her yet. He was definitely a guy to stay away from.
This book was fantastic with the way it took me into the behind the scenes of not one but two rock bands. The storyline pulled me in from the get go and didn’t let go. The chemistry between Cross and Indie was blazing. I definitely recommend this book and can’t wait to read more from this series.
I liked this rock star romance a lot! Cross Rhodes, member of Courting Chaos, a band on the brink of stardom, and Indie, photographer and daughter of rock legend Vince Cinderstone, make a great couple. There’s a bit of drama with a band member but it’s mostly just an enjoyable, nicely paced love story. Can’t wait to read the next book of the series.
I LOVED everything about this book!! I have read the first book in the next series so I was already familiar with the characters but to finally read their first story was amazing. This series actually takes places before the Pushing Daisies series but it’s ok to read out of order, you will just already know about the couples. Anyway, amazing story and awesome characters. I LOVED Cross and Indie! They are perfection and I couldn’t have loved their story more!

CROSS
Courting Chaos Book 1
by Heather Young-Nichols
Indie Cinderstone, being the daughter of Vince Cinderstone of the band Kissing Cinder, was a bit taken aback when she was called out as a wandering fan. She knew she could be where she was, obviously Cross Rhodes, of Courting Chaos, didn’t know who she was. Thus, the dance begins. Indie and Cross are both attracted to each other, so they start spending a lot of time together. Indie though is having a problem with one of Cross’s bandmates, Eric. He’s the kind of guy that people love to hate. He’s the antithesis of what the band stands for. But, Indie and Cross don’t want to be concerned with him, or anybody else. What will they do about Eric? What will happen with Indie and Cross? It’s a loving, story of blooming love and the pitfalls that surround it. Cross is almost to good to be true, and Indie sometimes struck me as too young… but they work!
I voluntarily read and reviewed this Advance Readers Copy.
This story wasn’t great but it wasn’t bad. Cross is a sexy drummer and his band is up and coming and they’re the opening act for a famous band. His first meeting with indie almost gets him thrown off the tour. Indie is the daughter of the musician in the lead band. Tempers are hot and there’s a crazy mean bassist that hates Indie. Things all work out in the end. This book did keep my interest and the author could have done a better job. I’m going to read book two and hope she did.
I mostly enjoyed the audiobook but did occasionally switch out for the written words. Indie and Cross were a great match. She’s all spitfire and very forthright and he’s protective and stubborn and appreciates ALL of her attributes. They’re first encounter could’ve put someone in the hospital for all the fire they were breathing at each other (not in the paranormal sense). It was a very heated exchange and wasn’t the only one. It’s comical. What wasn’t comical was the bass player. He’s the catalyst that pushes their relationship along at a faster click, though.
The dynamics between most of the characters were great and the narrator did a good job. I prefer two narrators when there are dual POVs but she still did good. Drinks was probably the best non-native voice. It was easily distinguished from the others.
Story: 4 stars
Narrator: 3.5 stars
This is book 1 in the Courting Chaos series and I love the rock star back drop of this read / listen. This is Indie and Cross’ story. Indie is used to the rock start life – her dad is a part of Kissing Cinder and Courting Chaos has been chosen to be their opening. Cross is the drummer for Courting and seems in this read to be holding the band together after their bass player goes too far – in more than one way. Cross becomes more than Indie’s hero in this read and I love how he’s a part of the rocker lifestyle but still separate. I also love Indie’s dad, “don’t be a d!ck and don’t make me break your neck” I loved that line. Indie has a great banter about her and seems pretty happy go lucky. A good storyline, with a HEA and a teaser of what’s to come in book 2. Narration was well done, pitch and tone changes to reflect separate characters was well done too. Well written with good flow. Looking forward to reading more on this series!

Cross
Courting Chaos, Book 1
By: Heather Young-Nichols
Narrated by: Gillian Williams
I love rockstar romances and Heather Young-Nichols did not disappoint with Cross, her first book in the Courting Chaos series. Indie is visiting with her father, band member for Kissing Cinder. She is used to her summers on a tour bus and now uses the time to further her photography career. She never thought she would fall the for drummer of the opening band. Getting Courting Chaos to the next level is what Cross Rhodes has on his mind, and opening for a band like Kissing Cinder will get them there. He didn’t expect to fall for Indie. Now our story begins, with a steam filled, yet sweet romance and with a hint of suspense thrown in. Young-Nichols gives us a realistic view of life on the road, the dynamics of a band and a passion that steals your heart.
Gillian Williams narrates this with all the feels. Each voices fits the characters perfectly and she drew me in. This is my first listen by her and I enjoyed her pace and sound. I will definitely watch for more by her.

Great Story & NarrationCross Rocks Indie’s Heart!
Cross
Courting Chaos, Book 1
By: Heather Young-Nichols
Narrated by: Gillian Williams
I thoroughly enjoyed this book, I am a huge fan of rock star romances and Heather Young-Nichols did not disappoint one bit. The story grabbed my attention right from the start and held it captive straight to the end. The characters are realistic and easy to relate to. Cross Rhodes is the drummer for Courting Chaos, an up and coming band who just got the break they needed, they were hired to tour with and open for “Kissing Cinder”, a band who sells out large venues. Indie Cinderstone is the daughter of Vince Cinderstone, the lead guitarist of “Kissing Cinder”. The only way she gets to see and spend time with her Dad is to go on tour with him each summer. She is used to the life of a rock star and loves taking advantage of visiting different cities and getting to use her craft, photography. She arrives early to meet her Dad at the venue when she is approached by two guys questioning why she was there, she stood up to them and soon finds out who they are, two of the musicians for the opening band. Cross wasn’t all that bad but the other guy gave her the creeps, Eric Drinkswine. I loved the chemistry between Indie and Cross, they were great together and for each other. Their story is and entertaining one, and there is never a dull moment with plenty of drama, both personal and with the band, a bit of angst, some suspenseful moments, heartfelt ones and a sweet romance. Heather Young-Nichols thank you for this great story!
I listened to the Audible edition, Gillian Williams is a great narrator and voice artist. She brings the characters to life, gives each their own voice and personality. You could hear how much heart she puts into her work as she captures the character’s emotions and projects them into her performance. She is an entertaining storyteller and a pleasure to listen to. Thank you for the great listen
I loved this book and finished it in 2 days!! I loved the 2 main characters Indi and Cross. I love that you get both sides of the story and what they are thinking it’s great chemistry!
The narrator’s voice was easy on the ears and easy to tell between the 2 characters but I want fond of the voice she used for Eric, which was a little distracting. but doesn’t stop from listening to the storyline
Thank you Heather for a great story! looking forward to the next one in the series
I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed this. There are some grammatical and spelling errors that should probably be corrected but if you keep reading, you figure it out quickly what they mean. Cross and Indie were a pleasant surprise and I felt their immediate connection and pull to each other. I love how they each supposed what they did for a living. There is some suspense and what came about was surprising. I love Cross’s possessiveness and pull to protect Indie. It was so enjoyable I couldn’t stop reading and had to continue until I finished it.
Another great read, with lots of chemistry and hotness. This is a well written story and hooked me from the start. This is a quick hot read, with a interesting plot and fantastic characters, great emotion and Loads of steam!

Not my favorite genre, not really into rock stars, but this was an interesting storyline with plenty of suspense and drama to keep me turning the pages.
I really enjoyed “Cross” by Heather Young- Nichols. I received a complementary copy of the book in exchange for an honest review but I would gladly pay full price for this book. I read “Something Irish” earlier this year and ever since being introduced to these characters I’ve been waiting to dig into this first book in the series. Cross has the same feel as the hit show “Roadies” that I absolutely feel in love with. The behind the scenes look into the music scene was great all on it’s own – but add in the fun characters and it left me with a serious book hangover when it was over. Can’t wait for book 2….
If you are a fan of fun contemporary romance, then this is a great book to any to your collection.
Happy Reading…enjoy!
Cross was really good. It showed how some rockers really don’t cheat on their spouses. It showed the truth about relationships that can be made from being on the road and that you earn the respect you give.
