Cross Breed is book twenty three in the Breeds series by Lora Leigh
Oh my how I’ve waited and anticipated Cassie’s novel. I first feel in love with her as a child in Elizabeth’s Wolf and then she pops back up in other novels throughout the series. She is a hybrid, unique, and many fear her and her gifts. She has been hunted since the day she was born and that will never stop.
As for her mate. I had an inkling of who he was and it was whispered at in Dawn’s Awakening, so their are clues in the series. Yet, we truly don’t know until now. We also don’t know his motives and who’s side he is on, which adds to the suspense. And, he’s waiting six years to claim what is his.
I enjoyed their romance. It’s filled with the usual Breed male dominance, yet he recognizes that Cassie is a true alpha and respects her. Now her mate does miss lead her at the beginning of the story, but when the mating occurs they both embrace it and fight those outside forces together. They do have some challenges to overcome. One being another male is challenging their mating. Another issue is her mate is a known Council associate and this causes Cassie to be shunned by those she considered friends. I enjoyed their unity, but I also felt for Cassie and her trills.
Now, the Breed politics play a big role in this storyline. It added drama and tension. The politics behind her mates secret life and motives added excitement and suspense to the story.
The only issue I had was Jonas’s second in command, Rhyzan. He’s a bit confusing. We start to focus on him, but then he just disappears. No mention as to why. He’s also not involved in some climatic scenes, which you think he would be, being the second in command.
Overall, Cross Breed was another delightful read. I’m glad I got to see Cassie grow into the strong powerful Breed female.
Rated: 4 Stars
The Breed series is one of the best paranormal ones out there, and Cross Breed is no exception. I’ve been eagerly awaiting Cassie’s story and found myself absorbed in each page. If you enjoy intense love, sex, and steamy passion, this one is for you.
Cassie’s mate lived up to expectations and you get a story of a deep passionate union. As with all relationships it does not go smoothly and Cassie must fight for her mate and stand by his side as equals. The breeds quest for answers on the council of 12 moves on a pace in this book. This was one of the best of the breed stories but the ending felt a little rushed ready for the next in the series.
I’ve been waiting since Cassie was a young child for her to grow up and find a mate of her own. I knew that time on Seth’s island when the mysterious Coyote Breed shot her that he was her mate. I never would have guessed who it turned out to be, but it makes a lot of sense now. They are perfect together.
This is another example of a Breeds book where Graeme is awesome . I just love him. He is not as psycho as he used to be, but he still gets crazy now and again. He loves to torture members of the Genetics Council and those who work for them, though you can’t really blame him for that after the way they tortured. But he is so funny about it. He cracks me up.
You have to love Cassie because she sees ghosts and knows things that other people don’t. Also because most of her life she has had a huge price on her head because she is the only mixed breed and the Genetics Council wants to capture her and perform all sorts of tests on her. So she has always had to have a bunch of friends enforcers guarding her. She hasn’t been free to do things like other breeds. Even as a very young child, the man that everyone, including her thought was her father, tried to sell her because of her Genetics. So her mother had to take her and run.
This book was great and ended up with a look into the next book which has been hinted at a few times and looks like it will be great. It is about the Wolf Breed Alpha Lobo and Khileen. Khileen was abused by her mother and her mother used to me in a marriage of convenience with Lobo, so he is technically her stepfather. But now she knows he is her mate and he also knows. But she is fighting it and waiting for his brother Tiberius to return, because she was in love with him. Should be a good one.
Cassie is half wolf and half coyote. Many fear her and others are drawn to her. There is something deep down inside her that scares her if released. When she makes a deal with the devil, her body for her sister’s safety, she finds out the man who she’s been in contact with for six years is her mate. He has known she was his mate but waited until the time was right. Now she has a mate and a target on her back, even though she’s always had one on her because she the Breed princess. Will she lose her mate and her sanity or will they find a common ground?
So awesome!!! I have been waiting years for Cassie’s story. Sex (explicit) suspense and action. I don’t want to give anything away so that’s what there’s not a lot of information. There were some places when there should have been more separation when switching from one character to another.
I have been looking forward this book for years and it was best so far.
It seems like I have been waiting forever for this book to come out, and I am so thrilled that I loved it as much as I thought I would. I was hoping Cassie’s mate was who I thought it was, and I wasn’t disappointed. Great book! I love this series, and can’t wait for the next one.
Wow! What an exhilarating read! I have been impatiently awaiting Cassie’s book and wondering who her mate was ever since she was introduced as an eight-year-old little girl. This child captured my heart and remains there still and I have to tell you that her story rocked my world just as it rocked the Breeds. Without giving away just who her mate is, I will tell you that he is sexy and arrogant, frustrating and mysterious with lots of secrets and a whole lot of alpha attitude as while I wouldn’t have put them together before, I could feel the magnetic pull of these two together and now I can’t picture Cassie with anyone else. These two character are seriously strong, totally convincing and really steal the show with their romance that is filled with lots of twists, explosive chemistry and volcanic passion and then of course there is the all the emotional turmoil one would expect during a Breed mating but this story goes a bit beyond the normal due just who these characters are. Oh, and of course there tempers flying and frustrations rising and jerks getting knocked on their behinds.
The adrenaline pumping thrills and excitement never stop in this fast paced novel that keeps readers turning the pages with obsessive fever. There was definitely no way I wanted to miss one glorious second of Cassie’s story which has secrets being revealed that blew me away, which of course means that readers will impatiently awaiting the next book to find out what happens next. Although, I don’t know if Cross Breed can be topped, but I have no doubts that this author could make me eat my words, because she brought new characters in and like most readers of this series, I can’t never get enough of the Breed world and all its fascinating characters.
4.25 stars–CROSS BREED is the twenty –third instalment in Lora Leigh’s contemporary, adult BREEDS erotic, paranormal romance series focusing on a government experiment that went horribly wrong. This is coyote/wolf/human hybrid Cassie Sinclair, and coyote hybrid / Council enforcer Dog’s story line. CROSS BREED can be read as a stand alone but for backstory and cohesion, I recommend reading the series in order as Cassie’s story began in book three Elizabeth’s Wolf wherein we were first introduced to the powers of a then eight year old child whose abilities were far more than anyone could have imagined.
SOME BACKGOUND: Trying to create the ultimate warrior, genetic scientists combined animal DNA with human embryos resulting in a species that has been feared and tortured since their inception. With the increase in natural conception of cross-breed species, not only have the Breeds, but humans have become wary of the powerful results.
Told from several third person perspectives including Dog and Cassie, CROSS BREED focuses on the relationship and mating between coyote/wolf/human hybrid Cassie Sinclair, and coyote hybrid / enforcer Dog-a mating and relationship that began years before. Six years earlier Dog knew, a then eighteen –year old, Cassie Sinclair to be his mate but the young woman wasn’t yet ready to be claimed, a claiming that would be troublesome and life-threatening for everyone involved.
Cassie Sinclair is considered the ‘breed princess’, a protected cross-breed of unknown powers with the knowledge, comprehension and the ability to ‘know and see’ that which she should not, and could not have known. Early in their story, Cassie loses some of her strong personality traits but quickly recovers when their relationship is threatened by an outside source. Dog is considered a traitor to the Breeds, working with the Council to control his own kind, a position that has placed our hero in the direct line of fire. But Dog refuses to step away from the woman he loves until threats of a different nature advance on our story line couple.
The relationship between Cassie and Dog is fated; a mating destined by hormones and animal attraction; a lifetime alliance dependant upon nature and DNA. For years Dog has known Cassie to be his mate but the Breeds view Dog as a threat to their existence contrary to what Cassie and others know to be true. The $ex scenes are intimate, erotic, aggressive and intense.
There is a large ensemble cast of colorful and familiar secondary and supporting characters as Cassie and Dog’s mating is called into question. From the first Leo, to the Breed primals or Prime Leaders, Dog and Cassie’s relationship will be tested and threatened in more ways than one.
CROSS BREED is an erotic, sexy, heartbreaking and intimate tale of fate and love. The premise is revealing and dramatic; the characters are strong, capable and spirited; the romance is provocative and energetic. Dog is the perfect mate for our story line heroine- a mate that is willing to do anything to protect the woman he loves.
As always Lora Leigh writes a perfect Shifter story, her descriptions are easy to visualize and you can’t help but love the characters well most of them.
Cassie has grown up knowing she was different but she plugged on and did her job but always feeling like something else was out there for her. For years she has always called on her friend Dog, she has never seen him but she trusts him so when he does her a favor and asked to meet her at his hotel she goes willingly but when she opens the hotel room door her world changes forever and she has to run for her life.

Loved this book. I’ll have to buy a few more in the series that I didn’t have to refresh my memory and continue the other character storylines!
I have never read a Lora Leigh book that didn’t keep me reading until I couldn’t keep my eyes open. Another amazing story in the Breeds series!
Fantastic series! A must read. I loved every minute of this book.
Lora Leigh always delivers a hot, action-packed story with characters that absolutely leap off of the page! Fabulous world-building (I have the whole series.) with twists and turns that keep you interested even beyond the last page. I look forward to the next one, and the next one and the next one…
I have all her books in the Breeds series and this one is just as good as all the others. Love the story line.
I enjoyed reading this book. I look for new books by this author.
One of the best books I have ever read. I love all the Breed books. This is one of my favorites.
Too much sex, and not enough meat to the story. Too much back and forth.
I absolutely loved it!
‘Cross Breed,’ was amazing! Cassie has always held a special place with me, from the time she stepped into the scene, till the time she matured into an intelligent and lovely young women. Her story, as well as her mate, could not have been more brilliantly written! From start to finish, this novel had me utterly captivated. But really, who else could’ve been Cassie’s mate?!
