Fans of #1 New York Times bestselling author Lora Leigh’s scorching Breed series first met Cassie as a little girl in Elizabeth’s Wolf. Now Cassie has finally come into her own as a young woman, and she’s about to discover the one she is destined for—but it is unclear whether her fate is to be mated for life, or marked for death… conception with the DNA of the predators of Earth. But although they all carry the genetic material of beasts within them, Cassandra Sinclair stands apart. A unique mix of wolf, coyote and human, she is revered by many—but preyed upon by others. She is fiercely protected by her community…but no one manages to stop her when she slips away one day to offer her body in exchange for her sister’s safety.
The man she succumbs to surprises her by unleashing her inner animal in ways she never dreamed possible—and provokes her deep, furious rage. To Cassie’s shock, he is the mate she has long awaited. I’ll say it now: “I can’t wait for the next book!”
Cross Breed, the 23rd book in the Breeds series is the book that fans of the series have been waiting for: Cassie’s book!
Cassie Sinclair (debut in Elizabeth’s Wolf, 3rd book in the series), is unique among her kind- born from a human mother who raised her with love, kindness and fierce protectiveness and a Breed father known for his formidable temper and vicious protectiveness of her.
That’s not all of what makes Cassie unique though: Cassie, unlike other breeds, has more than one strand of animal DNA in her veins. Cassie has two: Wolf and Coyote and together the combination has produced some unusual effects.
Now it’s the time that fans have patiently and impatiently been waiting for: it’s time for Cassie to meet her mate, as will readers.
Lora Leigh was careful with Cassie’s book – letting fans have fun with theories of who Cassie would end up mated with.
Cassie’s book was delightful.
I loved every minute of reading it, just as I have every other book in this series.
This book has good world building, great characters (that I fall more in love with after each book), great action scenes, steamy hot sex scenes, moments of laughter and tears alike.
It’s a thrilling, adventurous, love story with a little mystery thrown in as well and I can’t wait for the next book.
I had a book hangover for a week after reading this book book.
I highly recommend it!
Worth the wait but had a major flaw. The dedication ruins the surprise of who Cassie’s mate is.
I had reread the previous three books before reading this to refresh my memory.
I purposely stayed away from any type of review until I had the time to sit and enjoy this book as I wanted Cassie’s mate to be a surprise.
Having worked so hard to keep Cassie’s mate a secret, even managing it into the first few chapters of this book, I was annoyed to have who Cassie’s mate was, told to me by Ms Leigh herself, before even starting to read. I must have sat for a good minute going I DON’T BELIEVE IT. Then to have his identity hidden for those first few chapters was like salt in a would.
THIS IS DUE TO THE DEDICATION IN THE FRONT OF THE BOOK TO CHRISTINA. NOT CLEVER AND VERY AGGRAVATING.
The expectations for this long anticipated book have been set so high as to be unattainable. Ms Leigh proves how good she is and how much she appreciates her fans, by delivering not only what her fans wanted and needed but she has done it in such a way as to create a brilliant Breeds story.
We are still learning so much about these wonderful creations and Ms Leigh gives us some more reasons to love them.
The general depravity of the Genetics Council is still abhorrent with their latest acts, well, there is a special place in hell for those twelve.
And the wonderful surprise with both of our two main characters being something more than just hybrids was astounding.
So little has been known about Dog for ages but he has always had a soft spot in my heart and I believed there was more to him than we were allowed to see. This book truly brings him into his own and I loved how his parents, especially his mother, have played a pivotal role for Cassie since she was a child.
I also think Dog did not grovel enough after what he did to Cassie and she should have taken a leaf out of Ashley’s rulebook and cut something off.
Love the set up for the next book.
This book does allow a newcomer to the series to enjoy it but it means so much more if you have followed on form the beginning of this series.
So, in summation.
Was so engrossed I had finished it before I knew it. Wonderful to have so many of the others join in this book. The ending was a tear jerker when his parents visited. A great story and addition to the Breeds but is HUGELY let done by the naming of her mate before one starts to read. BIG spoiler for me.
The attitude towards Cassie from some of the wolf breeds was not explained well enough. This is a woman who has fought for their rights all of her life and they treat her with distrust and contempt.
Dog didn’t grovel enough after the HELL he put Cassie through.
Loved it.
This author can pull me away from what ever I have on to read next which she did with this one. She writes in a couple genres but I first time ago caught her in this series with that being how she captured me as a reader with this world.
Having read several I was so excited to get into this one. Each one centers around unique characters with this one being no exception. Cassie is the one who is used to first spin the web to ensure you go nowhere. The thrill that builds as we get to know as she does when she is being watched with none other by her mate later it is revealed. Dog tingles us so that it travels along our spines all the way to our toes. They both have their secrets with the chemistry being off the charts.
The drama that occurs in this will have you growling too but it will have danger at a slow boil with your senses on heighten awareness. When it all goes in a direction you least expect you are held hostage to it all as it plays out. When you reach the final page you sigh that you still are able to move at all considering.
Lora has done a wonderful job in telling Cassie and her mates story.
Cassie and her mate’s story was everything I wanted and more. I loved them together. So passionate and sweet and heart melting. I loved how Cassie grew into her powers and strenght. She really came into her own and she is one of my favourite heroine of the series. Her mate, D, was just as scrumptious!
I recommend reading the rest of the series before reading this so that your understanding of everything about the Breeds is clear and you can better understand all that happens and its importance in this book.
This book will be one of my favorites by this author, along with Dawn’s Awakening, Mercury’s War and Coyote’s Mate. Reason being is because the emotions that come out through the words are felt down to my soul.
Throughout the Breed series, the readers have watched Cassie grow from being a scared girl running with her mother for their lives, her difficulties in fitting into the breed community because she talks to “fairies”, to being able to argue Breed Law without breaking a sweat and now finally to following along in her journey to claim her mate. I am so glad that she has found her equal in her mate, and didn’t see half of what happens in this book coming.
I don’t want to say too much because I don’ t want to give details away. Highly recommend reading 🙂
Now to wait for the next installment, which is the hardest part.
Like so many people who have been following Lora Leigh’s breed series we have all been waiting for Cassie’s story for years… many, many years. I am definitely one of them. I have been reading this series since 2003 when these books were originally published through Ellora’s Cave and had been chomping at the bit to get Cassie’s book, especially to know who her mate was. To be honest, I started to have such high expectations that I was getting a bit worried that it was too high and I was going to be disappointed. I was NOT disappointed, I loved this book so much!
I honestly do not know how to write this review to give it the justice it deserves, but I will try. So again my main thought while waiting for this book was who was her mate, there has been spoilers all over the place and by now I’m sure many already know, but I won’t name him here. We obviously learn who he is in this book but we learn so much more and have many other questions answered.
We knew Cassie was special, but in her book we learn just how amazing she really is. She has been nicknamed the Breed princess, beloved by so many for her compassion, intelligence and strength. But in the background there also were many who distrusted her and some even disgusted with her and this really comes to light once she is mated. But she carries on with her head held up high and with grace. But what we really find out is how fierce she is. There was always something hidden in Cassie and boy do we find out what that is. And we also finally find out who her “fairy”is!!!
As for her mate, we know it is someone that has been around since Cassie was 18, he has been waiting for 6 years to finally claim her. We find out that he has been helping whenever she called for those six years. But now he’s here to collect and does he ever! And even in the shadows her mate was seen as arrogant and cocky, definitely an alpha. In this book you see the normal alpha behavior, the dominance and possessiveness, but you also see the softer side. I loved how he was with her. He was so protective yet never tried to restrain or cage Cassie. There was that typical “doing what is best for my mate” scene, which is always annoying but the way it was resolved was awesome!
There really is nothing more for me to say but that this book definitely exceeded all my expectations and that it was worth the wait.
When I first encountered the Breed series I never realized how entranced I would become with the stories that would follow. So many characters that indulged my senses. The idea behind this series blew my mind. It was something I had never come across before. When we were introduced to Cassie in Elizabeth’s Wolf, I fell in love with that little girl. I watched her grow up throughout the years and couldn’t wait until she grew up and found her mate. Here we are. I will try and explain the feelings that went through me, reading this book. I felt everything. The betrayal, the fear, the anger. The strength. It broke my heart at times where I couldn’t stop crying. It made me feel like I could overcome anything. This installment of the latest Breed book explains so many mysteries. The long awaited book of Cassie and her Mate is by far the best book of Lora Leigh’s Breed series.
The only word I can use to describe Cassie’s book…Perfect! After waiting for so long we finally find out just exactly what Cassie is and who her Mate is! Absolutely loved this book!!!
Cassie, FINALLY!!!! My favorite Breed book was Elizabeth’s Wolf, so I was very excited to read Cassie’s story and have been waiting many years. Now, that is not a complaint. This story needed to be now because it was wonderful. I am glad Ms. Leigh did not rush into this story, but waited for it to be done right. I have read all the Breed stories and have thoroughly enjoyed the entire series and will continue to read them. It amazes me after all the stories there is still something new to find out about them.
Cassie and Dog, we all wondered, we all hoped, and yes it was he. Cassie deserved someone who could match her and Dog truly does. The way this book has woven together so many threads from previous books and tied them up is amazing. The backstory for Dog was beautiful and heartfelt. The journey these two travel to be together is challenging and dangerous, but so necessary for them to become who they need to be for each other and themselves. I was crying at the end, it was just so right.
Thank you Lora Leigh for giving Cassie and Dog a beautiful, well written, heartfelt, engaging story, they truly deserved it.
Thank you Penguin Random House for the ARC I received through a Goodreads giveaway.
