“Writing Crooked House was pure pleasure and I feel justified in my belief that it is one of my best.” –Agatha ChristieDescribed by the queen of mystery herself as one of her favorites of her published work, Crooked House is a classic Agatha Christie thriller revolving around a devastating family mystery. The Leonides are one big happy family living in a sprawling, ramshackle mansion. That is … big happy family living in a sprawling, ramshackle mansion. That is until the head of the household, Aristide, is murdered with a fatal barbiturate injection.
Suspicion naturally falls on the old man’s young widow, fifty years his junior. But the murderer has reckoned without the tenacity of Charles Hayward, fiancé of the late millionaire’s granddaughter.

Love Agatha Christie she is the best
An excellent book.
Surprise ending!
It’s Agatha Christie…what more does anyone need to know?
Another great read from Agatha Christie! Highly recommend it to all mystery lovers!
I grew up on Agatha Christie but I had forgotten how good she really is. Funny how unlike her contemporaries her stories don’t date. A real pleasure and I look forward to revisiting her whole list.
I read this book many years ago. I enjoy Agatha Christie and the characters in this book very much. It is an entertaining and quick read.
The crooked house was a very well written book full of twists and turns, you will love how it ends
Agatha Christie never disappoints.
I love Christie’s novels but this was a bit different from her usual mysteries. A bit darker in overall mood as story weaves through eccentric family members. Some readers predicted who “did it” but it still ends with a twist as Agatha surely intended.
Took too long for anything interesting to happen.
Agatha Christie never disappoints.
Agatha Christie always weaves a good tail. This one was particularly convoluted with numerous deliciously frustrating twists and turns. When she wraps it all up at the end it makes perfect sense, but I sure didn’t see it coming!
Though I haven’t read a lot of Agatha Christie, I feel Crooked House likely wasn’t on par with her other books. The protagonist, Charles, wasn’t a detective, amateur or otherwise, and he wasn’t terribly intelligent. The actual murderer wasn’t that difficult to figure out, even without an omnipotent point of view, but I felt Charles could have been …
Classic Christie! Interesting characters, inter-twined motives and actions, then of course, the “twist” at the end!
Another great read by Agatha Christie.
Agatha at her best. No giving away clues. You have to read to the end to see what you didn’t see before
Good but dated
