You learn why he was”The most Trusted Man in America.”
The life of Walter Cronkite is an amazing story. I’ve always admired him and learned so much about his life and the times. However, I was disappointed in the writing style. The author jumped around and repeated certain points. The story is informative and inspiring.
I always respected Walter Cronkite as a jounalist and will always have that opinion. Learning about the facts that got Walter where he finally landed were great! He was a real fighter to get where he wanted to be. I had to smile and laugh sometimes about how the stories went. This guy just never gave up. I never knew his wife was also a …
An informative and entertaining biography about the iconic newscaster who became the voice of the evening news and the most trusted man in America, friend of Presidents and ordinary people alike. Well researched and written.
A historic news caster is cast in real life and stands even taller some times and about the same as us all at others. It’s a heavy tome, but easy to read.
Packed with historical information covering WWII, Korean War, Vietnam era, civil rights as well as biography of Cronkite. Included stories about his years growing up and starting his radio career. The book also has much about other journalists and reporters.
I learned a lot about the news industry done by TV. It’s a cutthroat manner which produces our news. Cronkite, to me, was Uncle Walter and he had many good points but he was not as pure as I thought. Enjoyed the book very much
gets a bit leftist political half way through. Interesting up until late 60s.
Interesting to read the story behind someone I grew up watching every night during some of the most important years of my younger years.
If you remember “That’s the way it is..” you may find this book fascinating or, at the very least, informative. This book covers Walter Cronkite from birth to death and all stops in between. I learned a great deal about the man and his likes and dislikes, many of the dislikes I thought he covered up well. The book did make me want to go to …
Bland. Might be interesting for someone working in the field of journalism.
A terrific biography of one of the most important and influential reporters in American history. To read about Walter Kronkite is indeed to relive the history as he lived through it and gave it to the nation.
Delightful biography.
Cronkite brings a well-known 20th century personality to life. Not a page turner, but full of scenes from the life of Walter Cronkite and the times in which he lived.
Walter has been a household “visitor” as long as he has been on radio and TV. Honest and likable.
Cronkite is a short history of the 20th century. Many of the events in the book I remember because I lived through them. Even if you did not, the book brings historical events to life so you will feel you lived through them. I feel the author brought Cronkite to life as a real person. He had his strong points and his weak points just like all the …
Excellent story of how the man became the legend
Fascinating story is changing role of journalism. Well written and Walter comes Alive!
SOME GOOD SPOTS. A LOT OF ERRORS.
A gratifying and exciting read. With new insights on every page, I realized the most important world events of my lifetime were known to me through the reporting (and voice) of the most trusted journalist of the century. Some lessons learned – do your own homework, confirm your facts and sources, ask the deep questions, and don’t waffle on your …
