I wrote one before upon completion of the book.
I am 80, so he was my go to news source for years, I lived in the era written about. The book is an insight into the news world as it used to be, news not entertainment, facts not opinion. I highly recommend the book.
I grew up watching Cronkite. It is interesting to see the details of his life. Obviously what you see on television can only provide a surface look at the man.
Interesting but there is almost too much detail.
This book was informative re the life and times of Cronkite. It portrayed him realistically, but I found My opinion of him was lower after reading the book although he was certainly an accomplished journalist. The book also portrayed the political forces in play in television news. It was quite long and I’m on the fence re if it was worth the time.
gives one faith in the system, truly a great journalist
Great read for any Texan about the life of a true Texan.
Thorough and comprehensive study of the man who guided the American public through many historic milestones.
A must read.
Lots of surprises from what our perception was of Walter. Mostly good, but some that were a complete surprise and not so flattering.
Interesting buy too long!
Lots of history and world events covered in this extensive chronicle of an American icon. I learned a lot from this read.
Informative , I did not realize he was a liberal, and was able to hide it from his listeners viewers and readers. I did not realize he was so driven to cover the major events and stories, to the detriment of his family life.
A closet liberal revealed by an admirer
Very entertaining. A wonderful book about the most trusted man in America.
Long. I liked Cronkite a lot less than I had by the end of the book.
Too much detail and will take forever for me to read. I stopped reading, but may begin again later.
Frankly, it didn’t hold my interest…just “too much “ detail, and name dropping.
A good behind the scenes history.
Highly recommend it for anyone interested in history, biography, journalism, the 20th century. If you grew up during the Kennedy years, Watergate, WWII, Korea; if you know, or want to know, who the Murrow boys were, if you are at all interested in how broadcast news got to be where it is today… step inside the private club of newscasting. …
