This is a very nice easy read cozy mystery and look forward to the next book in this series.
In “Croissants and Corruption” we meet Margot Durand, the owner of a bakery called “The Parisian Patisserie” in North Bank, Virginia. She misses her husband Julian who, as a police officer, was killed several years before in the line of duty. Her sister Renee calls her from California and asks her if she could care for her 19 year old step-daughter Taylor for the summer. Taylor, it seems, is hanging out with the wrong crowd and has no interest in doing anything but hanging out. Margot reluctantly agrees. She thinks she can have Taylor help her in the bakery. When Taylor arrives, Margot takes her to an Italian restaurant for dinner. There, a server named Marco keeps coming to their table and flirting with Taylor. Taylor excuses herself to go to the restroom and instead meets with Marco. Margot finds them in a closet, with Taylor pushing him away and yelling at him to leave her alone. That night Marco is murdered with a knife that has Taylor’s fingerprints on it. Taylor is arrested and Margot tries to help Detective Adam Eastwood who had replaced her husband in the police department when he was killed. Readers follow Margot step by step to find out who killed Marco and why. They also watch her get involved in finding out if money has been taken from the fundraising accounts of the local senior citizens. The book moves very quickly and is very enjoyable.
Easy five star
This cozy mystery took my attention and held it as three possible “cases” unfolded, never letting me go until the end. Was fun to put the pieces together to figure out who done it.
Was nice to have a bit of faith and reference to God helping and being there for us.
