When loyalties are questioned and bonds forged, the Immortal Ops find themselves fighting a war to guard not only their secrets, but their lives as well.Missy Carter leads a rather boring, overworked life as a system analyst for the State Department or rather, that’s what she lets everyone believe. In reality her life is anything but boring. As a Shadow Agent with the Paranormal Security and … Security and Intelligence, she’s seen and done it all. Intelligence is her specialty, assassination is her hobby. The only problem is that the things she spies on don’t die easily. In fact, some of them were dead to begin with. She’s learned to handle anything life can throw at her. That is until the biggest paramilitary pain her backside shows up again. Lucky for him, he’s good looking.
Roi Majors, wolf-shifter and second in command of the I-Ops, is having a hard time believing that Intel can only get half the information needed to bring down an underground ring of vampires with big-spending backers who are hell-bent on creating a race of supernaturals with multiple strands of DNA in them. When he finds himself paired with the one woman in the world who seems immune to his self-proclaimed charms, he can’t wait to see her to safety and then bid her good riddance. He never counted on falling in love with her. And he sure in the hell never counted on her claiming to be an agent with a branch of the government no human should know about.

‘Critical Intelligence‘ is the second title in the ‘Immortal Ops‘ series. I’ll admit that I didn’t like Roi much in the first, introductory, story of this series. He is depicted as a man-whore who suffers from a serious condition known as ‘insert his foot in his mouth at the wrong moment’ disorder. He’s charming as all get out, and deadly when needed… but his attitude toward females didn’t settle well with me. Oh, I know full well from numerous Paranormal or Shifter Romance stories that the “man-whore” is usually given that title for a reason beyond a need of a constantly changing line of women – so going into Roi’s and Missy’s story I had the attitude of ‘prove yourself worthy to me’. I did. I admit it.
Fact is – Roi did prove himself worthy of his lady and so much more, over time… but he still, and probably always will insert foot in that mouth at the wrong time, forever, it’s just Roi. But, man, did I ever love the way Missy makes him pay for that in so many ways. Yeah, his lady is one badass on her own and Roi has finally met his match in his mate.
Most of what you’d want to know before picking up ‘Critical Intelligence‘ can be found in the Cover Description blurb. What isn’t there is the intensity between Roi and Missy on so many levels. Yes, the sexiness, steamy chemistry is off the charts hot enough to melt your Kindle – but the need to protect, even when mad as a hornet is there as well, the wanting the one they love to accept them and love them just as they are is strong even if Missy will try to hide those facts from Roi for a very long time. The danger is intense, the villains completely vile, the story is fast-paced, action-filled, and held me captive until the final page… and beyond, for now, I, once again, need to know more.
This second book in the series begins to show us how characters from the future series are being drawn into each other’s orbits early on. We’ll meet characters who will have their complete tale told in their own story later on in the series, but for now, they’re secondary characters that bring this story alive with intensity, emotions, and intent. So, this is a series (actually the beginning of a world with several series in it) that needs to be read in order, at the least – or following the author’s recommended reading order.
If you love a good Romantic Suspense of the Paranormal kind full of sexiness, action, and (for the most part) likable characters then you need this story and these series in your life. I loved ‘Critical Intelligence‘ and will continue binge-reading these series to get up-to-date.
I own a Kindle edition of this title in a book bundle of the first 4 titles.
Critical Intelligence (Immortal Ops #2)
is better than the first book only by a smidge and I think because it was Roi and I loved him in the first book. The Alpha males and their women know how to kick butt and still have fun and make me laugh out loud. Roi is hilarious and asinine and made the story so enjoyable.
Geoffroi “Roi” Majors is a member of the Immortal Ops Team who loves women with no plans to settle down, ever. But when his team are called in to help he discovers his womanising ways are over and his soul mate is right there in front of him. Now all he has to do is convince her, which is easier said than done.
Missy Charter is a secret undercover operator and there are only three people who know. She knows something is up with their new acquaintances but she is not sure what. What she does know though is that her heart beats for a certain womaniser but she won’t give him the time of day.
I loved it so it’s on to the next book.
for the audio-
Critical Intelligence was great! I can’t believe that I hadn’t already listened to it. Missy is all cool laid back, like don’t worry about me. When in fact she’s why they say it’s the quiet ones that you should worry about. She’s got ninja death skills and you don’t want to tick her off. Roi was so fun in you like me, I like you, we can’t say anything. When push came to shove and these two were together, they were dangerous. Mason Lloyd did a fabulous job narrating and bringing the characters to life. He always has a rich and smooth voice. Even the “fights” between Missy and Roi sounded great.
Critical Intelligence is Melissa Carter and Geoffroi Major’s story. It’s a white hot romance that, at times, is more off than on. These two engage in a war of stinging verbal barbs, inappropriate or inopportune comments and hurtful sparring at every turn. Their chemistry is off the charts but the continuing vocal assaults erode any forward progress they make and yet, they can’t seem to keep their hands off each other. Keeping Missy safe is non-negotiable for Roi but she has secrets that she’s keeping from him. If they are revealed will he still want and love her? Great action and suspense keeps this fast paced story moving.
An Alpha Male military-shifter romance with insta-love done pitch perfect with all the tropes not turned on their head so much as hugged. Funny, action-packed.
This episode puts two organizations on each other’s radar. Attacks against team mates and attempted kidnappings keep everyone on their toes. After twenty years a fated pair is reunited, much to their suprise.

The heroine: Melissa Carter (a.k.a. Missy) – Best friend of Peren (Lukian’s mate from the first book in the series. Missy is aware of the supernatural and knows that she is not a normal human though she can’t talk about it with her friends for some reason. She is a “Systems Analyst for the State Department”.
The Hero(es): Major Geoffroi Majors (a.k.a. Roi) – Brother to Lukian due to the fact that Lukian’s blood was used to create him. He is quite a player and sleeps with different women all the time. He is proud of his bachelor status.
The Story: From the time Roi met Missy, he couldn’t think of anything but her. Though Missy thinks Roi is a pig because he was such a player. However, when it comes out that Missy is on a target list, Roi is determined to protect her.
I don’t understand the Immortal Ops world and have a problem that it wasn’t explained that well in book one. It is obvious that all kinds of supernaturals exist, from shifters of all kinds to vampires, fae and even demons. However, in the first book it was said that geneticists worked with all kinds of DNA to create the members of the Immortal Ops.
I don’t understand why they had to create the members from the blood of Lukian (the king of the shifters in the Northern hemisphere) instead of just recruiting existing supernatural beings. It is never fully explained. It was said that prior to using Lukians blood, there were experiments that created supernaturals that were not quite right. I just wish the world building was a bit better so I understood it more.
Missy is a fierce heroine and I do like strong heroines. Though I am not sure I like it when the female in the story is even stronger than the male. Maybe it is because I have been a single mother for years and have always dreamed of having a man take care of me or at the very least take away some of the burdens at least in my dreams if not in real life.
I found the narration in this one to be better than in the first even though the narrator was the same man. My problem in the last book was that he didn’t seem to use different voices, inflections or accents for different individuals, but he did so in this book, so it was easier to tell which character was talking at any given time. Like book one, this was told mainly in the Hero’s POV and with only one (male) narrator.
This book was also quite a bit more funny than the last one. I was laughing out loud at some parts in this one. It was also scorchingly hot and the relationship between Roi and Missy was contentious and sensuous. All in all I am liking this series more and more.
This books is full of push and pull. There’s still a lot of of setup getting the groups together as a whole. There’s some bad boy behavior, some snarky good times and of course bad guys! I do like that the lead female character is one bad a woman who can hold her own and take care of the problems with out being coddled. The love story is a shifter novel and follows the normal way of things. There are a few surprises and some heated scenes. Over all it’s a good book! I love the sarcasm that is worked through out because well sarcasm is my love language.
I have read this book before the anniversary edition and loved even more so now .Yes it has been extended some and we keep more of a look into Roi and Missy’s story. However that’s not why I love this one. I love this story because it is true to Mandy’s Roth’s writing style . Every moment was fill with suspense fuelled with hot sexual tension feed with hot sex and hard pace action. Roi and Missy meeting was not brought on by that fateful night when him and he’s brother or rather team go in for a group of women who they were meant to eliminate buy rather save. No Roi and Missy’s pass go much deeper then that.
Critical Intelligence by Mandy M. Roth is the second story in the Immortal Ops series.
I enjoyed Melissa and Roi’s story and was glad to be getting a little more depth in the IOPs world. Can’t wait for the rest of the teams stories!
I love the expanded version of this story! Missy and Roi are truly fight like cats and dogs. There chemistry is amazing and it is hilarious to see them fight their attraction to each other. Especially when Roi keeps sticking his foot in his mouth. Missy is an amazing woman who leads a double life…much to her detriment when Roi tries to figure her out. However, I fell in love with him when he told her he would stick by her no matter what. These two may fight and “hate” each other sometimes but they fall fast. Mandy did an amazing job on these stories!
This series is a must. I have the audiobook also. . .
I enjoyed reading this book. Can’t wait for more.
Oooh, i just love me some Roi!
Roi and Missy’s story was action-packed, super sexy and at times funny. Both characters and their back stories are very well developed. I love Missy, she is one woman that can and will kick some serious boo-tay! I couldn’t help but fall for Roi myself as he realized he didn’t want anyone but her, and would do whatever it took to make her happy. Oh, how the mighty have fallen. : ). The narration was great also, the wrong narrator can make or break an audio book.
Oh yeah, i recommend this one!
I loved this book. Couldn’t put it down. Love the relationship between the characters. Love how they had each others backs and the strength of Roi’s love for Missy and vis versa. I love Missy and her skills.
Rough and Missy. Kick ass and loving at the same time. Chuckle worthy. And just plan ole fun.
Roi and Missy are a riot together! The secrets unfold and the action continues from Immortal Ops. Mandy has created a great world and a large family of characters that blend well together in this special series of books..
Missy Carter may be the boss’ daughter but she is more than capable! Roi is just off the charts alphaness at its best! Witty banter is foreplay for these two and when they finally get together its OMG hotness!!! The I-ops team and PSI team are generally compertmentalised but now the genie is out of the bottle, can they work together?
We find out more about the despicable Asia project and the females who are now in harms way. Although part of a series, these books can be read as stand alones but much more enjoyable when you read them in order!
