When a mysterious serial killer known as “M” launches a deranged “investigation”, Alex Cross and his partner must unearth long-forgotten secrets to survive — or risk getting buried themselves. In a Virginia penitentiary, Alex Cross and his partner, John Sampson, witness the execution of a killer they helped convict. Hours later, they are called to the scene of a copycat crime. A note signed … scene of a copycat crime. A note signed “M” rests on the corpse. “You messed up big time, Dr. Cross.”
Was an innocent man just put to death? Alex soon realizes he may have much to answer for, as “M” lures the detective out of the capital to the sites of multiple homicides, all marked with distressingly familiar details — details that conjure up decades-old cases. Details that conjure up Cross family secrets. Details that make clear that M is after a prize so dear that — were the killer to attain it — Alex’s heart would no longer have reason to beat.
I loved it. Hard to put down. A typical James Patterson book. He is one of my favorite authors.
Patterson’s Alex Cross series is one that I still look forward to each new book. The last one “Target: Cross” was not a 5*, but was a solid 4 for sure. This installment of Alex and his family brought it back to a 5* read. I enjoy the intertwining of Alex and Bree’s home life along with the outside turmoil both of their jobs bring to the mystery/murders that they are trying to solve. As always, his buddy Sampson plays an integral part in the solution too. Thanks again for a easy to read novel (short chapters are great). Looking for another one soon.
Not one of Patterson’s best
Love the series however this did not measure up
This book is in the Alex Cross Series. We pick up again with Alex and his family trying to live a normal life that Alex’s job as a profiler and psychology consultant to the FBI and the DC PD keeps that from happening. Alex hears from M. A mysterious killer from the past who comes to to taunt him once more. Alex and his family get further into danger as M involves more people and recreates many of Alex’s prior cases. Can he catch him before disaster strikes and not only Alex but his entire family is struck down by disaster.
Nice
Patterson, especially without a co-author, is always to be recommended.
Just kinda left you hanging at end
I enjoy the Alex Cross series. I look forward to the next book
What can any body say but fabulous! James Patterson is a master in the art of literary excellence if you haven’t read a Paterson novel you truly do not realize what your missing!
Love all Alex Cross books. Always look forward to the next one coming out.
Anything and everything he writes is a must-read cuz you cannot put his books down
I loved this book like I do all of Alex Cross book s I have read them all
Is there an new player in the Cross Game? Or did an old enemy rise from the dead? Alex Cross has his hands full in this new novel by James Patterson. Detective Cross must use all his resources, put his loved ones and himself at risk in order to figure out why he is being taunted by M.
Alex Cross travels to be a witness at the execution of a killer that he and a former partner convicted. However, before the death certificate is even dry another killer strikes, one with alarming similarities to that of the recently deceased killer. Are they looking at a copycat? Did they get the right guy first time around?
The Edgerton family are wealthy beyond belief and they vow to ruin Alex and prove that he fromaed Michael. Can Alex prove the conviction was safe before the killer takes someone close to home?
This a great book and Mr ptterson has long been the master of the Craft but I do feel that the series is starting to log slightly. There are only so many times the Cross family can be in peril and survive.
Still a tightly crafted story, just wondering if it’s time for Alex to retire and a new leading man emerge?
A great addition to the Cross series by the most known author in the world for mystery thrillers stories.
I absolutely loved this book and once I started reading I just couldn’t put it down. It’s a fast paced read, no time to take a break or breath out as the situations and mysteries are on a roll and unstoppable.
There are turns and twists, so that you can see coming but many that are very unpredictable and that’s what makes this story so good in my opinion. There are new characters in sight as old ones, and I loved especially the connection with the kid and how it shows that the job it’s sometimes our life but we have feelings and doubts about everything else in life as well.
I hope we’ll get to see all of these stories in a movie as this one i, in particular, gave me a lot of The Mentalist vibes.
Read it and you won’t be disappointed.
