Mature Audience AdvisoryBrothers are supposed to be kind… caring… supportive… protective. Catherine Walman’s brother, however, is not. He has maligned her reputation until no honorable man will seek her company, wasted her dowry and endangered her home with his gambling and now his new wife has made it clear Catherine is no longer welcome. The hand of fortune intervenes when a letter … fortune intervenes when a letter arrives advising Catherine that a stranger has bequeathed to her “a home and money to keep it.” Catherine seizes upon this chance, hoping that it might be enough for her to be independent, to be free – only to discover this stranger also had a brother, or two, or three.

I love a little living the good life revenge..
I loved the strength that was portrayed in Catherine, quite unusual for her time period. And the fact that Philip was not alienated by that strength but in fact drawn to it.
OMG one of the best stories I have read in a long time. Normally I like more romance than story,, but this was such a good read. It was well written The story was well developed, intriguing and suspenseful. I loved the characters and the romance was sweet..This story at times was very humorous and I found myself laughing out loud. I truly enjoyed it and highly recommend it.
Well-written characters. The story was twisted, but illustrated well the cruelty that defines some people. The heroine is strong willed, but realistically doubts herself or her situation from time to time. Strikes me as more realistically written than most, even with the fantastic turns the story takes.
I really liked this story. There was enough plot twists to keep reading. There was only one sex scene but it still had an edge to it sexually. The book was very long and a lot of it could have been edited out but even so, it kept me interested. I just really love the way D.L. Carter writes!
I enjoyed this book. The plot was a little bit far-fetched, but enjoyable all the same. It was a long book, but I remained interested throughout the book.
Quite different from Ridiculous. Our heroine’s needs are ignored by her parents and mistreated by her good-for-nothing brother. I was so glad she stood up for her own interests and did not soften to her parents and brother. A rather involved plot which kept me wondering how things would work out in the end – all nicely wrapped up with no loose ends.
Second book that I have read by this author. Really am enjoying them and looking forward to more
Was very different. I enjoyed the characters.
Very dragged out. Just a OK book
Too dark – not made to enjoy but trudge thru
Did not finish
Absolutely loved this book!
This was a very good book The Good ,Bad & very Ugly With a happy ending Thanks.
I loved the book and looked for more from the same author.
Main character constantly dealt with others trying to take advantage of her good nature, but she was outwitted them all in the end.
Went past the point it should have ended, but was a good read.
Needs editing
If it weren’t for the fact that this book needed a bit of editorial tightening, I would have given it 5 stars. It is rare to read a book which brings so little of the 21st century into its depiction of a woman’s lot in life during 19th century England. The heroine is strong, believable and truly shackled by the authority men exerted over her. The hero works for and is deserving of her trust while both of them deal with the myriad obstacles in the path of their romance, including but not limited to murder, illness, silly mothers and petty gossip. At first, I thought the book was far too long with an over abundance of plot twists, but in the end I was sorry to leave the characters behind. We had become quite good friends.
I enjoyed reading this book. I didn’t want to put it down! Great writing. Wonderful characters and interesting plot lines. I’m hoping to read more from this author.
love D.L. Carters writing style
