This book is swoon worthy! The book has amazing characters that are very relatable. This book is about a very shy girl who took on the mother role for her sisters kids. One child is autistic. And the hero of the story is crazy hot. A single dad at that! This Green Valley Library series is one to fall in love with!
So gooey sweet. It’s perfect. I love the way the Nora writes the quirky women and the sweet men that love them. It is so romantic and loving. I love it.
Crime and Periodicals was a great read by Nora Everyly. Sabrina Logan is someone that no one in the small town of Green Valley knows. She has been higing in plain sight while helping her family and living her life inside books. Wyatt is the sheriff who returns to town and takes notice of Sabrina, the librarian. I loved reading Wyatt and Sabrina’s story and can’t wait to read more by the author.
It has taken me a while to begin the Smartypants Green Valley Library series. I decided to start with Wyatt and Sabrina because damn did Wyatt sound like one hell of a man cake and I was right!! Crime and Periodicals was more than that thought… it was a charming story about two people who find themselves at the right time in their lives and bring out the best in each other.
Sabrina is a shy librarian, dealing with anxiety and looking to break out of her shell. Wyatt is a charming deputy sheriff and single dad who has returned to Green Valley after years of living away in Nashville. These two were a match made in heaven, with Wyatt being beyond patient and understanding of Sabrina’s needs while also encouraging her to step out of her comfort zone. Wyatt was the push Sabrina needed to fight against her natural instincts of running away from things that make her feel uncomfortable.
They are both dealing with some baggage. Sabrina has a scumbag of an ex brother in law who seems to always show up to cause some drama. Her sister died years ago in child birth and Sabrina has become the mother figure for her niece and nephews, the youngest which is autistic and she is trying to adopt. While Wyatt is dealing with an ex-wife who is looking to escape from all of her motherly responsibilities and forget she ever had children. Wyatt needs a stable partner who will not be coming in and out of the life of him and his girls. Together they have to fight through these challenges and decide if they truly are meant for one another.
It was also great getting a glimpse at the characters we have grown to love from Penny Reid’s Green Valley, Tennessee Universe. This book got me so excited to hear Jackson James story in Totally Folked later this year!! It can’t come soon enough!!
In a welcome return to Green Valley, we meet some new residents alongside some of our well known and loved families.
I fell madly in love with the deputy sheriff, his daughters and the gentle way he deals with Sabrina and Harry.
It’s equally beautiful to ‘witness’ Sarina’s blossoming in Wyatt’s careful hands.
This is a first for me from Nora Everly but it certainly won’t be the last.
Charming, relatable. Might be my favourite Smartypants story so far. Loved it!
Favorite Quotes:
By now I was pretty sure that every time I looked directly at him my IQ lowered because I could not think of one stinking word to say to him. I opened my mouth anyway though, just in case the flirt fairy decided to bless me with a witty anecdote or some charming repartee. Nope. That was a big fat nothing coming out of my mouth.
I was beginning to develop suspicions that he was as nice as he was hot. And that made him just like a unicorn. A total keeper.
I made myself laugh at the jokes, but it came out nervous and I probably sounded insane. I took a step back and braced myself… I shoved my glasses up the bridge of my nose and looked around. I tried to do it surreptitiously. But I was sure I had crazy eyes.
I would drop dead of embarrassment. I would be the first documented case. People would study it, and then I would come back to life and drop dead again.
This apple had fallen so far from the tree it was on another planet in another galaxy in an alternate universe made up of nothing but future romance novel heroes.
I sat there, panting like I’d just run a six-minute mile. My head was filled with images of fireworks and stars, planets realigning in the universe, that enormous Harvest Moon illuminating us from up above like it was there just for us, and the feeling that everything in my life had shifted into place so I could be right here at this moment—exactly where I needed to be.
My Review:
I adored every word of this cleverly penned tale – it was a total delight from beginning to end and meshed seamlessly with the beloved yet highly peculiar community created by the ingenious Penny Reid. Written in my favorite dual POV and filled with endearingly flawed and heart-squeezing characters, Harry Potter references, breath-stealing insights, and highly amusing observations; Ms. Everly’s writing sparkled brighter than the glitter aisle at Hobby Lobby. I was as enamored and besotted with the fatally shy yet MAC red lippy wearing Sabrina as I was with the thoughtful, kind, and gentle giant hot dad Wyatt. I frequently barked with laughter, giggle-snorted, and gleefully savored every well-chosen word and mourned a bit when hitting that perfectly satisfying HEA as I am greedy and wanted more.
Crime and Periodicals (Green Valley Library Book 2) by Nora Everly is a slow burn, contemporary romantic comedy told in first person, dual POV. It’s book two in Smartypants Romance’s Green Valley Library series, and can be read as a complete standalone.
Sabrina Logan is an introverted, assistant librarian with social anxiety. She works hard and does her best to help raise her niece and nephews while keeping to herself and trying to be invisible. When she catches the eye of a swoon-worthy, local cop, she doesn’t know how to handle it. When deputy sheriff and single parent, Wyatt Monroe, meets Sabrina, he’s intrigued and wants to get to know her. But can he get the shy librarian to open up?
I loved Sabrina and Wyatt’s story. As characters, they were both endearing and relatable. I enjoyed their immediate chemistry and Sabrina’s inner dialogue. I also loved the little guest appearances from several familiar characters of the Winston Brothers series. The author did a great job of seamlessly incorporating them into her story. It fits in very well with the Green Valley world. Low on angst and high on sweetness – I ate this story up! A highly recommended, feel-good read.
This is the story of Wyatt & Sabrina. Wyatt comes back to Green Valley and is on the Police Force. He has two children girls. Sabrina works in the Green Valley Library and she takes care of her nephew, Harry, who has autism. Harry has two siblings, a boy and a girl. Sabrina lives within herself. She is extremely shy and she can’t bring herself to talk to people outside her family. She meets Wyatt when she has to stop because she had to pick Harry up from school early because he was upset. Jackson, who is patrolling with Wyatt, has Wyatt drive Sabrina’s car and take her home while she deals with Harry. It goes on from there between the two of them. Wyatt is such a nice guy. Sabrina now tries to get over her fears and push forward. It is funny, too. There are a few steamy scenes. I loved this story.
Thank you Social Butterfly and the author for a complimentary copy. I voluntarily reviewed this book. All opinions expressed are my own.
Crime And Periodicals
Green Valley Public Library #2
By: Nora Everly
*REVIEW*
Crime And Periodicals brings readers back to the Green Valley Public Library in the Smartypants World/Pennyverse. Sabrina is an extremely shy librarian. She is an introvert to the point of nearly crippling anxiety, for example, she won’t look people in the eye and doesn’t go out often. Sabrina helps care for her late sister’s children and is in the process of adopting her autistic nephew. I love Sabrina because I relate to her anxiety and shyness on the most fundamental level. I have these same problems, so I was thrilled when Sheriff Wyatt entered her life. He is a single dad recently moved back to town and is instantly drawn to Sabrina. Wyatt is a kind, giving, loving man. It takes a special kind of person to understand how to interact with someone like Sabrina. She is wary of everything, so he has to be the calmest most patient guy in the world. They are wonderful together, especially with the children. This story is sweet and touching, and I enjoyed reading about these characters. I’m glad the author addresses the subject of autism spectrum disorders with sensitivity and respect. Overall, this book is a delightful read and a great addition to Green Valley.
Any book that has a reference to my favorite literary hero, Samwise Gamgee, gets a thumbs up from me! This was my first Nora Everly book, and she has earned a reader for life. There was so much to love in this book.
1. So. Much. Nerdiness! Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter, Star Wars…and some that even I didn’t know, and I consider myself to be pretty nerdy. Sabrina is an uber-nerd, she doesn’t apologize for it, and I could really relate to that!
2. Single dad. I love a good single dad story, and one where said dad accepts and loves the child/ren of the woman he adores is even better. Wyatt is a fantastic hero, and I really enjoyed his relationship with his own children, as well as his extended family.
3. Special needs child. This may seem like a weird thing to be a plus, but when you’re the mom of a special needs child yourself, it means a lot to see one as a main character. Sabrina’s nephew, Harry, who she is in the process of adopting, is on the spectrum, so his special needs are different than those of my son. But all special needs moms/dads are on the same team.
4. All the Winstons! If you have read Penny Reid’s Winston brothers series, then you will love this book. (And if you haven’t, I’m surprised you even found your way to Crime and Periodicals. Get yourself a copy of Truth or Beard, immediately! You won’t regret it.) Sabrina runs into Winstons everywhere she turns, much to her chagrin, and almost every time, their interactions end up being embarassingly and unintentionally hilarious!
5. A main character with anxiety. I don’t think Sabrina ever puts an official diagnosis to her anxiety issue, but it is a major part of her life. My daughters struggle with anxiety to differing degrees, and it was informative and interesting to see the way it affected Sabrina’s everyday interactions. She works hard to overcome it, making it a big part of her storyline and character development.
6. I love a story that can make me laugh one sentence and tear up the next. This is one of those.
You don’t have to have read any of the other Smartypants Romance books to enjoy this one. In fact, I read Green Valley library book 3, Prose before Bros, before I read this one. The books in the Smartypants Romance series are written by different authors, and the storylines do not overlap, so you can start anywhere in the series. I’d totally recommend Crime and Periodicals! Thanks to Smartypants romance for the opportunity to read and review this book.
I am loving the new author additions to Penny Reid’s worlds and book universe. I love that I get to meet new-to-me authors and reconnect with some of my favorite characters from one of my favorite authors.
Sabrina Logan is a heroine who many readers will find parts of their personalities in. We may not be as quiet or shy as Sabrina…we may not have as many anxiety issues or be responsible for someone on the autistic spectrum, but we’ve all felt overwhelmed…we’ve all had to give ourselves pep talks to overcome life’s circumstances.
And all of those reasons are why Sabrina is such an amazing character; because despite her overwhelming and self-conscious feelings, she still tries to live her life; she still takes care of her nephew, providing him a stable and loving environment. I loved her internal monologues and her passion for reading and books. and she is so deserving of a man like Wyatt.
Wyatt is the perfect guy for Sabrina; he’s just an all-around good guy who does right by those he loves and serves and protects, not only because it’s his job, but because it’s something he truly believes in. I love how sensitive he was to Sabrina’s shyness and the fact that he didn’t push her too hard or too fast at any point in his courtship of her.
I’ve seen mentioned in other reviews that Crime and Periodicals has a Hallmark Movie vibe, and I wholeheartedly agree with that assessment, but not in the cheesy romance sense, ya know. In the feel good sense, the butterflies in the belly and warm fuzzies in the heart sense. And the fact that Sabrina and Wyatt are such likable and endearing characters and they have amazing families at their backs make this one heartwarming read.
4 Poison Apples
The romance between Sabrina and Wyatt is just so beautifully written. I was hooked from the first page. The characters are all people with real issues. Life is complicated, and sometimes you feel like hiding, but you have to get out there and live. You can’t shut yourself off and hide all of the love that you have because you are afraid to get hurt. Your soul mate could be just around the bend, on a winding road, in Green Valley. This book will give you all the feels!
Once in a while a book comes along that just makes you feel like a million bucks, from first to last. I opened CRIME AND PERIODICALS by author Nora Everly, and I couldn’t stop smiling to save my life. Nora is a new to me author, writing as part of the Smartypants Romance line, but this will not be the last of her books that I read.
Sabrina Logan just absolutely stole my heart. Nerd at heart, shy, she’s the least assuming sexy librarian that I’ve ever read. Her family (well, and her books, of course) are her world, and she would do anything for them. She is the star of every scene that she’s in, and I would absolutely love to see more of her in books to come. Major character crush going on here.
Wyatt Monroe, well, y’all, he is the perfect match for Sabrina. You might not think so, being that he’s a manly man, well-known and well-liked, and supremely sure of himself. But he and Sabrina mesh so well that it’s just magic watching their coupledom unfold.
Nora has written a book that is a great fit for the Pennyverse (that’s Penny Reid, if you don’t know), quirky, cute, romantic, and absolutely tug-at-the heartstrings perfect. I obviously cannot say enough good things about CRIME AND PERIODICALS. From main characters that I adore, secondary characters that steal the show (Harry and Ruby, I’m looking at you), and a small town setting that feels like home, this book is a winner all around. Smartypants, you have another winner on your hands!
I’ve been eager for Sabrina’s story since the first time she appeared in all her shyness. And this book totally lived up to my expectations. From all the stuff she did that totally is like I do in my shyness, to her finding her “stud” who was also sensitive because he not only was a single dad, but he had been fat as a kid. And then, oh my gosh, all the hilarious Harry Potter sayings, like for instance, one I will be using all the time now, “For the love of Dumbledore!” Another that is totally my house, so I have to use it, “Holy Hufflepuffs!” I can’t help it, these things make this character my kind of people. Someone that I would want to be friends with, but like her, I’d probably be too shy and nervous at first to reach out to. Sabrina’s nephew Harry was also such a wonderful character, I loved having him in the story, an autistic boy, but such a sweet soul. And then Wyatt’s daughters were wonderful as well. It wasn’t just the great characters, it was the library stuff too. I want a shirt that says “I Still Believe in 398.2”. There was so much in this book. Oh yeah, the Winston brothers pretty much all make appearances. And then Jackson is in it, and I’m even more ready for him to get his own HEA!
This is #2, so I read it out of order, which wasn’t an issue, just made for a few characters that I knew about in #3 not being around. I can’t stress more, read this series if you love books, and Harry Potter, and emotions, and HEAs.
I loved everything about Sabrina Logan! Not only was this a romance journey, but also a journey of self-discover and empowerment for Sabrina and this author represented her strengths and weaknesses beautifully and unfolded her growth realistically with a hint of humor that just settled in my heart and made me smile! There wasn’t a single page of this book I did not enjoy!
So #funfact: This is actually maybe my second book in the Penny Reid World and honestly, I do not know what I was thinking not reading every single book beforehand! I was captivated by the town and the Winston’s based on just the tiny little snippets that this story had of them and I cannot wait to devour every word that has been written thus far! I’ve already downloaded them ALL! LOL
I am so giddy with excitement, not only because Nora Everly was a huge hit for me, but so were the other four books in this series (I’ve already binged these four LOL)!!
Crime and Periodicals spoke volumes to me! My little book nerd self is so happy after reading this book, and I want to work in a library even more now. The children in this story will run away with your heart and have you cheering for a happy ending! I loved watching Sabrina come out of her shell, embracing the world around her, including beloved characters from Penny Reid’s world. A wonderful story that you’ll want to read all over again!
You must read this book! I LOVED this book to pieces. I literally couldn’t stop reading. I finished it in one day. It’s just so good. The feels you get from this book will make your heart happy sigh. I could relate to Sabrina on the shy scale. I know how frustrating it is that you want to be part of something, but so afraid to go out of your comfort zone. Sabrina is such an awesome character. She has a big heart of gold and how she is there for her niece and nephews. Her relationship with her nephew Harry will melt your heart. Harry is so adorable. He will capture your heart. Then you throw in Wyatt and his girls. Ovaries are going to explode in this one. I’m just preparing you. Wyatt is going to make you swoon right from the beginning. He is prime book boyfriend material. Another thing that made this book awesome is all the Harry Potter references. You have a winner there with this Potterhead. I really can’t recommend this one enough. Just be prepared to read all day because you won’t want to put it down. Trust me!
I loved this book. I loved Wyatt, he was a rock, a truly good guy and hero. Sabrina was a bit of a mess but I love the way the author showed all her emotions, the way she loved her family and did everything she could to protect them while dealing with her own phobias. Wyatt and Sabrina’s love story was as sweet and gentle as it was hot and full of passion. My heart was touched by this book, these two people were in such need of each other it felt like they were a family from their first meeting, put a smile on my face and in my heart.
Oh how I am loving this fabulous cast from Green Valley ! This one certainly gave me all the warm and fuzzies with a dash of sweet sexiness !
Sabrina is shy, quirky, beautiful librarian that is caring for those around her and doing her best to stay in the shadows when it comes to romance . Wyatt is a single dad, sheriff and truly a wonderful man . This was such a beautiful story of two lives that have been handed a pretty rotten hand from life that come together to make one wonderfully lovely beginning together! This couple is not only interesting and sweet on their own but then surround them with a fabulous cast of characters that are their family and friends ! Loved it !
