I loved this book! I also left a review on Amazon.
This is fun book in that you get to see how Pattie and Ashley got started in Sweetgrass Sweets. It was fun to see Ashley take cooking lessons in Paris and then get a good job. It was sad to see what happened between her and Serge fall apart but it’s way better for her! I am glad that Sandi came out with this one. It does answer quite a few questions
Sandi Scott NEVER lets me down. In another wonderfully written cozy, this fun read takes us Paris where the story is set. The descriptions of the settings in Paris are so realistic you can imagine yourself there. As the prequel to Seagrass Sweets, this book gives Ashley’s and Patti’s backstory, revealing some details that aren’t in the other stories, but even if you elect not to read this first, you won’t be missing out. Twists and turns are plentiful leaving you guessing and changing your mind about the murderer until you reach the end. This is one of those stories that you are sad at the end, but only because you’ve finished the book, and no other reason. Chock full of characters you love to love, love to hate and a HEA but different than what you would expect. Take this trip to Paris and see where it all began! You won’t be sorry AND this will completely hook you into Sandi Scott’s stories!
Cozy Mystery Prequel to Series
This story is the prequel to the Sweet grass Sweets series. It takes place in Paris and gives the back-story to Patti, Ryan and even Serge. It is a good, cozy mystery with the delights of Paris and French cooking. Although it stands alone well, it made me want to go back and re-read the series. I received this book for free and voluntarily chose to post my honest review.
Crepe Murder, a Sea Grass Sweets Cozy Mystery by Sandi Scott is a prequel to the other books in the series, all set in Sweet Grass, Texas. This book takes place in Paris and introduces the reader to Ashley and Patty, who headline in the other books. This is a delightful book and an enjoyable introduction to the regular series.
Ashley and her boyfriend, Serge, are in Paris, supposedly for a vacation with just a little work thrown in. Ashley is a computer hacker, a good one, and a legal one. She is subcontracting to the company Serge works for. The problem is, she is stuck inside a little apartment all day hacking into client’s websites in order to check their security…and never seeing Serge. She decides to take a cooking class, so one of the things on her bucket list for Paris will come true. Serge has a fit and comes home even less often. At the class, Patty is the instructor and she and Ashley hit it off.
A crepes cart sets up shop in Ashley’s neighborhood and the crepes are heavenly. Soon he is setting up outside the restaurant where the cooking class is held. All the neighboring restaurants are upset because it is cutting into their business. Ashley and Patty just decide to make a better crepe and win their customers back. All is going well until someone murders M. Babin, the crepe man. And worse…Patty is arrested. And so begins Ashley’s sleuthing career.
I really like these books and this one gives details that have only been hinted at in the regular series, about Paris and how Ashley and Patty became friends an ended up in Sea Grass. These are well-rounded characters that have goals in life that do not include solving murders, but what is a girl to do? The mystery is decent and the clues are numerous and subtle.
What happened in Paris before Ashley and Patty came to SeaGrass? We finally learn how Ashley and Patty became friends. Ashley had moved to Paris with then-boyfriend Serge for Serge’s job (or so Ashley thought). Ashley decided to take cooking classes at Chef Lemaire’s restaurant, L’Oiseau Bleu. These classes were being taught by Patty. This two became fast friends while cooking and solving a murder in which Patty was a suspect. In addition to Patty being a murder suspect, Ashley is framed for internet theft and Serge goes missing. These two crimes while unrelated help to seal Ashley and Patty’s friendship forever.
I really enjoyed learning how Ashley and Patty became friends and where Ashley’s idea of Seagrass Sweets was born. The book can be enjoyed as a stand-alone mystery; it is a great addition to the series. The storyline is a well-crafted backstory woven into a murder mystery. The mystery contains several twists and turns and red-herrings to keep you guessing. The characters of Ashley and Patty are well developed and full of spirit and support for one another when they need someone most. I recommend this book to cozy mystery fans and definitely fans of the series.
I received this book in hopes I would give a review. These are my opinions and have in no way been influenced by anyone.
This is the prequel to the Seagrass Sweets series. We get to learn all about Ashley’s ex and how she met Patty. If this is how France is, I don’t think I want to visit! Great read keeps you guessing to the very end with plenty of twists along the way.
I received an ARC and am voluntarily reviewing this book
This is another delightful mysteries by Sandi Scott. The setting this time is Paris, France. Sandi’s descriptions make you believe you are right there. The story is a good one. I just wish the bad guy got what was coming to him.
Murdered by a Crepe
(Disclaimer: received an Advanced Reader’s Copy of the book. Read it and decided to provide my honest review.) Crepe Murder, Prequel to the Seagrass Sweets Cozy Mystery Series by Sandi Scott is an intriguing read with many twists and turns. The author demonstrates her ability to character – building as the main character slides into the sleuth role without a hitch and grows into the role throughout the story. However, it is the dialogue that tends to be flat – not keeping up with the demands of the storyline. The world-building was lackluster given that the story took place in Paris but the Parisian landscape beyond the restaurant did not embed itself in the story. While the conclusion was surprising and unexpected, to me it was lackluster – not a jaw dropper. I have read many books by Sandi Scott and am quite surprised by my disappointment and reaction to Crepe Murder. Overall, My RECOMMENDATION is neutral. – Tex.
This is book 5 in the Seagrass Sweets Mystery series. This book is set in Paris after Ashley goes to Paris with Sergei is were we start off. So this book has a different set of characters. Ryan and Dizzy are still in Texas. The new cast is wonderful too. As the story unfolds you get to see a different side of Ashley. Of course that doesn’t stop her from getting herself involved in a murder. Once again she is needed to help solve the case so her new friend will not be charged. Lots of twists in the murder and the story line it self. Love the ending and can’t wait to see were Sandi Scott will take this in the next book in the series. This is my honest review and I did receive this book for free.
This was a great book. Ashely is in Paris with Serge. She is helping him with his work when the police show up and tell her she is hacking websites and is in trouble. Turns out that Serge has tricked her and she is now in trouble whit the police. There are a lot of there things that happen while she is in Paris that she has to deal with.
That is as much as I will go into the book. I just know you will really enjoy this book, so hurry and get it today.
Hi. This was a fun mystery that had well developed characters and a plot line that kept you guessing. I have read a couple of other books by Ms. Scott but have enjoyed this one by far the most. If you are looking for a new author to try, this is one I would recommend!
I have not read any of the books in this series before this one. I enjoyed the story line. I liked how the story untwisted and how the story resolved. I loved that she took in a lost dog and was sad when she found it’s owner, but it all works out. Never understood why it took the dog’s family so long to search for the dog. Lots of suspects and lots of fun to read and find out what is going to happen next. Now I need to read the others in the series!
I thoroughly enjoyed this prequel to the Sweetgrass Sweets Mystery Series. I had always wondered how Ashley and Patty met and became friends. Ashley signed up for a two week cooking and baking class at a French restaurant, where Patty was teaching. Ashley taking this course also brought consequences to her relationship with Serge, which forms one of the mysteries. I also enjoyed the Paris setting and secondary French characters.
Ashley also finds a lost dog she calls Belle, and ends up falling in love with her before having to give her up when the owners are found. But Belle is an important character. Ashley uses her walks with Belle to help in her investigation. Losing Belle fires Ashley’s determination to return home as quickly as she can and to start her own bakery, Sweetgrass Sweets.
There are several mysteries going on here, including one murder mystery. There were plenty of suspects, some were not what one suspected. There were enough twists to satisfy me.
I’m fortunate that I could receive this ARC in exchange for a fair review. I highly recommend it.
love the Seagrass Sweets stories, so was interested to discover this prequel, and enjoyed a free advance copy and giving my voluntary review.
Glad Ashley has great chops for baking, because Serge ugh!
Sad and sweet friendships built and torn apart.
This is the prequel to the Seagrass Sweets Cozy Mystery series – the tale of how Ashley and Patty met. Ashley is with Serge in Paris. She enrolls in a cooking class taught mostly by Patti. Interesting plot with Ashley suspected of hacking and Patty accused of murder. Easy to read. I loved the French background. This kept me reading far too late into the night, but I could not put it down. It is very well done.
Ashley Adams is in Paris with her boyfriend, Serge. Things couldn’t be better until the police accuse Ashley of being a computer hacker and stealing
almost a million Euros! What a shock to Ashley to find out that Serge left her behind to take the blame of his illegal activities!! Now Ashley has to prove she didn’t it. She goes to work in a cafe with Patty LaFontaine. Then a crepe vendor is found dead and Patty is accused of the murder. Now Patty has her hands full clearing not just her name but Patty’s also. Can she do it? It’s going to take everything Ashley has to prove not just her innocence but Patty’s also. I voluntarily reviewed a copy of this book.
This is the first of the “Seagrass Sweets” books I’ve read and though I’ve read quite a number of Sandi Scott’s books she has hooked me on his series. Although not the same type of book as her “Pet Portrait” series, it was extremely enjoyable in a different way. This is the type of author I like because I don’t always have to expect the same thing from each book. Great book, great author and now looking forward to a new (for me) great series.
I loved this book!! I have read several of Sandi’s books. This book is a prequel and helps to explain how her characters Patti and Ashley became friends. Her other series is as good if not better. You couldn’t go wrong by picking up some of her books to read. They’ll keep you entertained and you won’t be able to stop reading once you start. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who loves to read cozy mysteries.
I received an arc copy of this book for free and I loved it so much that I wanted to voluntarily leave a review.
I received an advance readers copy and am voluntarily reviewing this book.
Finally a prequel to learn how Ashley and Patty meet!
I loved the setting in Paris. It felt very realistic to me with the restaurant business, the cooking school and just everything Paris! I felt like I was living it along with the characters!
In every cozy murder mystery there has to be a bad guy. We have Ashley’s boyfriend Serge who turns from Mr. nice guy to Mr. not so nice guy. The plot really thickens as Ashley discovers how Serge set her up to take the fall for his computer hacking ending up in lots of stolen money.
Enter a lost dog that Ashley names Belle, a new job after finishing her classes at the cooking school and the discovery of a new friendship with Patty, an American who’s been in Paris for 30 years!
Mix in a little mayhem with the owner of a crêpe cart giving the local restaurants a run for their money. He ends up murdered and who did it? Ashley’s new friend Patty is accused of the murder. Ashley has her computer skills and goes on a hunt to figure out what really happened!
Friendships are forged, a murder mystery is solved and things happen that you just have to read about!
This was a delightful story and answered a lot of questions about the series. I’m glad to have the opportunity to review this book. I enjoyed it very much!
