Very enjoyable! I enjoyed the characters in this book and trying to figure out the killer. Ashley and her catering partner, Patti, are catering a big event where Ashley’s childhood friend, Hope, is speaking. The next day, Ashley discovers a woman was killed and it was supposedly one of her cream puffs that killed the woman. With her and Patti’s businesses on the line, Ashley teams up with her old friend, Ryan, to try to find the killer. Interesting characters, a charming town, and delicious-sounding food. I look forward to reading more of this series!
A very predictable story
Easy summer read. Enjoyable little small town murder mystery with fun characters, two shy blossoming romances and varying family dynamics and values. Sure, I’d recommend.
A great mystery that kept me guessing. Enjoyed it very much. Terrific writing
A tasty mystery!
Ashley and Patty’s catering business in Seagrass has been booming. Ashley’s old friend, Ryan, helped them secure the contract for the annual Women of Influence awards banquet and everything is going well until one of the guests is found dead the morning after. Suddenly events are being canceled and people are afraid to eat the delicious deserts and dishes they offer. If they don’t prove that their food was not to blame they could go out of business.
The book has some good twists and turns to keep the story interesting and Ashley’s dog, Dizzy, also helps with the case. Anyone who likes cozy mysteries will enjoy this book.
Light reading.
This was a nice clean story with good characters and I look forward to the next one.
A fun cozy mystery
Blame it on the chef when a patron dies of a cream puff – except it wasn’t her fault. You’ll cheer this heroine on as she struggles to save her livelihood in a small town that talks. Then there’s the dreamy dude who helps her unravel the mystery – until they both nearly get unraveled!
After spending the last few years overseas learning the artistry of French baking, Ashley Adams is back in her hometown of Seagrass, Texas. She has opened up her own sweet catering company and is excited for her first major job thanks to old friend Ryan.
Things go from good to bad when Ashely overhears an argument outside the ladies restroom and the woman is found dead the next day. It seems someone has poisoned one of Ashley’s cream puffs and is ruining the reputation of Ashley’s new business. Now Ashley (with the help of Ryan) is on the hunt for Colleen’s murderer to find justice and save her business. There are many suspects on her list and Ashley must delve into her past to find out who turned to murder to hide a secret.
This is a cozy mystery at its finest with lovable and relatable characters, lots of plot twists, and a female amateur sleuth that you can’t help but cheer for. This is a very promising new series that I can’t wait to get my hands on the rest to read.
Good
My first in this series. Cute cozy mystery.
Coleen dies at an event that Ashley and Patty are catering. The police say she was poisoned and Ashley is the suspect. This is good story with lots of suspects to the murder and a very good twist at the end.
Love this story. The characters are great – believable, likable. I adore tales with dogs. Dizzy is wonderful! The plot is well written, nicely paced and has some twists. Cannot wait to read the next book!
A good modern romance fit for Summer reading. It is light and entertaining.
I was gifted this book with the understanding that I would leave an honest review.
This is book 1 in the series Seagrass Sweets Mystery. I have read book 3 in the series and liked it a lot. This book did not catch my interest in the same way. On to book 2.
Love this series
Enjjoyed this book. It was easy to read and follow the story line. Loved the interaction between the characters. Would recommend this light mystery.
Delicious, Cozy and Clean Mystery!
This is the first novel in a series – no cliffhanger. The story is built on a classically, French trained chef and her friends – do not read while hungry! The characters are realistic as are the emotions and motives. The plot keeps the reader guessing as it all unfolds. The story moves quickly and has some good laughs. The gianormouse dog adds to the fun. I have read other books in this series and they are all of great quality
It was fun and I thoroughly enjoyed it.
“Cream Puff Murder” earns 5/5 Fanciful Croquembouche!
Ashley Adams was a “techie” with a dream of a life in ‘spy’ support: decoding data, breaking through firewalls, and hacking into secured systems, with her kindred spirit, Ryan, working along side her. But, without any good-byes, Ashley up and left for Paris…with Sergey…and a new dream to be a world-renowned chef. But, over two years later she returns to Seagrass, Texas, leaving Sergey behind, to open up a catering service specializing in French pastries. Her BFF Patty LaFontaine, from her Paris days, joins her with her specialty in French cuisine. Together they work to uplift the pallet of the locals more familiar with barbecue than Bœuf en Bourgogne. Their first big catering project, thanks to renewed friend Ryan’s good word, doesn’t end the way one would hope. While freshening up in the ladies’ room, Ashley overhears a very curious conversation which leads to questions about her cream puffs when a dead body is found! To save their reputation, Ashley, not entirely forthcoming to law enforcement, Patty, and Ryan must use every bit of their culinary and computing talents to solve this one.
Magnifique! I am a big fan of Sandi Scott’s Seagrass Sweets Cozy Mystery, and although I started by reading the third book, “Madeleine Murder,” I really enjoyed finding out more about how it all began. The story weaves in several different motives for the crime, contemporary, realistic and engaging with a few dead ends, and an excellent “Wow! I didn’t see that coming!” conclusion. Sandi’s characters are well developed even for a book one. My favorite, of course, is Ashley, strong and capable, but vulnerable. I really like her BFF Patty who is very detail oriented, like me. Those who like a little ‘fur-friend’ in the mix will enjoy Dizzy, a Bitsa—“bitsa this and bitsa that.” Partial to French deserts and cuisine, Sandi’s mouth-watering descriptions sent me to the cupboard for a plate of macarons. The small town setting of Seagrass, Texas, issues with running a catering business, and memories of Paris play out in the background along with an easy to follow recipe for Napolean – A Creamy Puff Pastry Cake! I see a prequel in the future that gives us fans more details into the life Ashley left behind in Paris. There has to be a juicy mystery there.
