This is the first book in a new cozy series. Ashley Adams returns to her hometown of Seagrass, Texas from Paris, France, to open her catering business. Ashley’s business Seagrass Sweets features French Pastries to compliment her friend’s, Patty, French cuisine. Ashley studied under Chef Patty in France and the two decided to move to Seagrass and open businesses together. Ashley and Patty are excited to cater the Annual Women of Influence Awards Banquet, however this excitement so turns to worry as Ashley finds out that someone is poisoned by eating one of her cream puffs. Ashley decides she has to solve this mystery in order to clear her name and save her catering business’s reputation. She enlist the help of a friend and former colleague from her IT days, Ryan and the investigation begins.
This is a wonderful told story with just the right amount of twist and turns. The book gives you a peek at Ashley backstory which can lean to future story lines. Also the friendly flirting between Ashley and Ryan gives a hint to a budding relationship. The characters main and secondary are believable, no one has an over the top personality. All these elements add up to and enjoyable read, that will keep you guessing up until the end. I am looking forward to reading more of this series to see how the characters, businesses, and relationships develop.
