I fell in love with his rope skills. I stayed because somehow he took hold of my heart and made it his.Callum Valentine didn’t mean to eavesdrop. Then again? When a man is calling a woman fat right in front of your table, it’s kind of hard not to intervene. Especially when the town’s most beautiful creature ever is the one being called fat.Desi just wants to be left alone. After an ugly divorce, … After an ugly divorce, she thinks she’s in the clear. Then her ex takes it upon himself to continue to make her life miserable, giving Desi no choice but to take it or leave.
In fact, her bags were nearly all the way packed when Callum poked his nose into the most embarrassing spectacle the town of Kilgore has ever witnessed. The moment he declares her his and off limits, everything changes—and definitely not for the better.
As if things couldn’t get worse than being called a pitiful, fat heifer in front of the hottest man she’s ever seen, Callum has to go and say that she’s his, and they have to play a game that she’s not quite sure she wants to be playing.
But before her eyes, things change. And suddenly the rules of the game aren’t clear. And they’re crossing boundaries neither one of them see coming.

Another Valentine bites the dust! After getting the little bit about these characters from the last book, I was so happy for someone to come in and give Desi what she deserves, and boy was this story a doozy! Desi is finally out of a bad marriage, but her ex won’t leave her alone even though he’s moved on. It’s like he’s made it his mission to make her miserable because people, including his family, have taken her side and care for her more. One day, Callum sees what’s going on and rescues her from the bullying and mean things, and then takes it a step further and helps her to conquer and meet her goals by helping train for the race. I loved these two together and I was so glad that Lani Lynn Vale gave them to us. In addition, I loved the relationship that Desi had with not only everyone, but especially her ex’s father, and how even though his son was wrong, he was able to make up for it tenfold. My heart broke for the situations that happened throughout the story, but I was so happy that in the end this couple got their HEA and the success they deserved. I can’t get enough of these characters and the overall storyline behind the Valentine brothers and can’t wait to see who falls next!
I voluntarily read and reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
4 Stars!
After having read Herd That I couldn’t wait for the next Valentine Boys book to be released! I’ve been looking forward to Callum’s story and I loved how quickly this story pulled me in. It was so great jumping back into this world. This story stole my heart and I really enjoyed it!
Desi and Callum’s journey was quite the memorable one. Oh, how I fell for these characters. I adored these two together and how they brought out the best in each other. I found myself grinning and blushing so many times throughout reading.
Lani Lynn Vale has created another awesome read filled with so much heart! It left me with the biggest smile on my face. This book is my new favorite of the series! I can’t wait for Banks book Chute Yeah!
*I volunteered to read and review a copy of this book from Wildfire Marketing Solutions / the author*
Can I just say that I love Lani Lynn Vale!! Her books are awesome and Crazy Heifer is no exception, it’s just as great as the others. Desi is divorced from a big donkey’s rear (even be ex-FIL know it and prefers her), but catches the eye of Callum who comes to her rescue. Callum isn’t going to let her ex-jerk mess with her. And he does it in only the way a Valentine can!! You gotta love those Valentine boys!!
Desi has made a vow to herself to never let her ex-husband get to her again. His constant criticisms about her appearance during their short marriage was enough. Desi decides that she is going to tackle a huge goal of getting fit and running a local event. When she ends up being the target of her ex and his new fiancee at the local restaurant she is having her last meal, well last unhealthy meal, she finds herself getting rescued by Callum Valentine.
Callum knows Desi needs time to get over her marriage but he also knows he wants to explore his feelings for Desi. When Desi is around everything feels right. Desi quickly realizes the same for Callum. However, her ex is having a hard time letting go and Desi is more determined then ever to follow her own path, of course with Callum by her side.
This was terrific, a bit of a tear jerker but I so identified with Desi. I thought her character was realistic and is one of my favorites this author has written about. Loved Callum he is a gentle giant until he is ticked off. Another fantastic read from this author.
Crazy Heifer will have you falling more in love with the Valentine Boys as these broken men show how big their hearts are. Desi and Callum’s story is one that will have your heart overflowing, have you smiling, swooning and cheering this pair on. Callum will steal your heart, make your pulse race and have you wishing for your own cowboy in his tight wrangler jeans. A story that is sweet, sincere, passionate and heartfelt. As you get lost in the pages of this captivating read be prepared to feel the heat, the passion and chemistry between Callum and Desi. A story that will show you that family isn’t always blood related. Who needs Valentine’s Day when you can have a Valentine Boy.
I have become a fan of this author lately, and while normally I’m not much of a western romance reader, this one grabbed me with the synopsis and the snarky title. I have read a few more lately set in this kind of a setting, and so far I’ve enjoyed them for the most part. Now I have to say that something I do really like about this author is the way she writes her stories. It is a little different to me than other romances, in that we kind of go along just like life is. We don’t necessarily get all the day to day mundane details, but it is as if the story just unfolds. In a way it reminds me of how I kind of daydream. So it makes reading the stories like second nature daydreaming to me. I also really enjoy how I feel the characters talk and act very real. The different types of conversations between the guys and girls, the smart-ass comments the best friends make to each other, that the family members have their inside jokes and running teases of each other. And I love the big family all hanging out and spending so much time together, because it reminds me of my own family at times in the past, and still some times.
Now there is one type of act they do, and it’s not something I’m ever going to be interested in, even as much as this story tries to make it seem maybe okay, still, my only thought was shaking my head no and making a comment on my Goodreads update that no, I still had no desire to do that.
I feel like I want to go back and read the first book in this series so I know about that couple more than what I read in this book. And I look forward to more people in this family getting their own stories as well I hope!
This is the second book in the Valentine Boys series. They are stand alones, but both are fantastic reads.
This is Callum and Desi’s story.
Callum knew from the moment he saw Desi, that she would be his. Now just to get her on the same page.
Desi just got divorced from Mal. And boy do I hate him. He did such a number on Desi. I love his dad, Malloy, though. They are complete opposite.
I do wish Callum would have punched him out though. Or even the twins could have done it.
Desi went through so much verbal abuse from Mal.
She is strong though, and that made her even stronger. She didn’t need a hero, but Callum became one because of the way he treated her.
I love this story and can’t wait for Banks!
5 Stars
I absolutely LOVED this one! Desi and Callum were just gah! Desi has just gotten out of a horrible marriage, but her ex and his wench of a fiancee’ still torment her at every turn. Callum, well Callum lays eyes on her and that’s all it takes. He swoops in and saves the day and their relationship just grows from there. I adore the dynamics in the Valentine family and am in love with this new series. Crazy Heifer is a sweet and sexy read that will keep you smiling through every page.
Angela – Alphas Do It Better Book Blog
We got a taste of Callum and Desi instant connection in Herd That but it was nothing compared to what Crazy Heifer had instore. Desi has her self-confides a little bruised (okay a lot) because of her douche of an ex-husband but thanks to her hero Callum, she slowly starting to be herself again. These Valentine Men are smooth talkers and knew how to handle their women.
I love that each book is giving us a teaser to the next couple in the series, I can’t wait to see what’s going to happen with Banks and Candy.
**And there (might) be a little tease of a set of twins that are getting their books sometime this year.**
From the moment Callum Valentine stepped in and put the heroine’s arrogant prick of an ex in his place, I was 100% Team Callum and ready to see what he was prepared to do to claim Desi as his own, for real, not just to prove to Desi’s ex that she is beautiful inside and out and he let go of an amazing woman for a witchy gold digger. And the fact that her ex-husband seemed to want to embarrass and belittle her anywhere and everywhere he could, I was ready for that lying, cheating and all-around despicable human being to be put in his place and face the consequences of his mistreatment of a woman who deserves all the love and happiness she can get.
Loyalty is something that Desi didn’t have in her marriage to Mal, nor did she have a man who appreciated her for her, curves and all, so when she starts spending more and more time with Callum and his family, getting to know them and reveling in the love and respect they showed her, she couldn’t help but become smitten with all of them, which is a good thing, since once Callum figures out that she’s the girl for him, there’s no stopping him from doing everything in his power to prove just how amazing she is and just how worthy she is of his love, his time, and his faithfulness.
Callum and Desi were the perfect duo; they worked well together and kept one another on the right path – the one that would hopefully show both of them just how right they were for each other. I loved all of Desi’s interactions with all of the Valentines and just how comfortable she felt around them. They lift her up, let her know just how remarkable she is, and they accept and adore every single part of her, which is exactly what she needs after the callous words and actions of her ex.
The Valentine family is quickly becoming one of my favorite Lani Lynn Vale cast of characters because they have each other’s back at all times and they aren’t afraid to step into situations that they know are wrong in order to make them right. Desi’s journey to love herself and to feel comfortable in her own skin is not an easy one, especially with her ex seeming to be wherever she is just so he can ridicule and bully her. When one’s self-esteem is crushed, it’s difficult to regain those positive feelings, but as long as Callum’s by Desi’s side to keep moving forward, regardless of how slow that journey may be, she’ll get there and remember every struggle, every desire to quit, and every milestone she reaches to finally be free of her past and move forward with a man who makes her feel like the beautiful woman she is, inside and out.
4 Poison Apples
I loved Desi and Callum together. I’m loving both series done simultaneously side-by-side and getting to see the extended families. It’s explaining a lot and expanding upon the universe isn’t hurting from where I’m sitting. I’d give both series so far 5 stars and I’ve likened them to Boomtown when it came out. Awesome books and storyline.
4.5 Stars
This is the second book in the Valentine Boys series. It’s Callum’s turn to fall. I LOVED the humor in this book. The way the brothers and sister playoff each other. My heart still breaks for the clan, but each book the healing gets a little better. I loved Desi. I want to be friends with her. I would go work for her in heartbeat because I love to bake as well. I wanted to pop her ex one. Nasty business he is. I loved the way Callum made Desi feel about herself. That is enough to swoon over, but he does so many little things through out the book that just make you fall for him. This book did make me tear up a bit. It made me wish it didn’t have to go down that way. I would highly recommend this one. I made sure to carve out a day I was doing nothing to read this one because I knew diving in a Lani Lynn Vale I wouldn’t want to put it down. I truly looking forward to the next book in the series.
Crazy Heifer delivers the next Valentine boy, Callum! I love that he swooped in to save our heroine from her super douche-y ex. He didn’t even hesitate. After that, he quickly admitted he had feelings for her and continued to be her white knight.
Desi has a horrid ex and his new girlfriend is a wretched, hateful woman. So, they are perfect for each other, but they are brutal to Desi. Callum jumps right in when he sees them bullying her. Hello white knight! One minor issue I had with the story initially was that Desi seemed to need Callum to save her a lot. I wanted to see her as a strong woman and that was slightly diminished by her reliance on Callum. This was minor however.
The relationship between Desi and her ex-father-in-law was very interesting and unconventional. I thought that was really unique. It was a true dichotomy to see such a wonderful man have a son who was so awful. Because this is a “small town”, everyone knows everyone and even Callum knows Malloy (the father) and has gratitude towards him. The relationships of people in the town is one of the things that will keep you reading. These people care for each other, even when they might not LIKE each other. Crazy Heifer is an enchanting story with a town full of interesting characters!
Contemporary Romance | Series of Standalone Books
Lani Lynn Vale is a new to me author. I knew that this particular series would be a great place for me to start because I have a thing for cowboys. While this book didn’t scream cowboy romance (the only sense I got for a cowboy was Callum’s kind manners and the photo of him on this cover) I did find the story to be lighthearted and heartwarming. I needed something like this for sure because I feel like I’ve been reading heavier books.
That being said, I enjoyed Desi and Callum’s story. It’s practically drama free (except for a pesky ex husband who doesn’t take NO for an answer), and easy in terms of falling in love. There aren’t any unnecessary plot twists and everything leading up to the HEA was sweet. Desi is a very realistic character and seeing her with insecurities about her body is something almost all women can relate to. I love how she wanted to change herself for HER ONLY and not because a man said she needed to. I also enjoyed how Lani Lynn Vale made her easy to connect with in terms of her mentality. Sure, she’s insecure and it’s difficult to love yourself when the people you depend on most don’t give the love back, but she wrote her as a strong capable woman despite her hardships. It’s truly inspiring. Callum, well he’s a force to be reckoned with! Strong, loyal, compassionate, and charming- everything women want in a man! I loved him to pieces. I do however wish we would have seen a deeper side to his character (his painful past certainly had to have been a big setback in his life), but he was a bit surface level. I’m personally okay with this to a point because we saw all the good of his character and not the messiness that could have turned this into an emotional read. I do wish there was just a little bit more about his past in the book.
Other than this, Crazy Heifer is a solid read, one I devoured in under 24 hours. I look forward to reading the next one!
I fell in love with this story right from the very beginning !Callum was like a knight and shinning armor glad in blue jeans and sunglasses and looking sexy as sin.
I really loved each and every character with the exception of Marjorie and Mal those Valentine Boys all just melted my heart each and everyone of them and we loved how protective they became of Desi in such a short amount of time. They were as so cute that
“I was in awe of them.”
Desi was just one of those characters so easy to love because no matter how much crap her ex husband dished out he never was able to break her spirit of that kind and loving women she was.
Callum and Desi had buckets of chemistry and they were simply amazing together. Callum was a smart man to see what was right and front of him and was determined to hold on tight knowing that women would change his life forever as well as his families.
This story was just one of those romance stories that touches one heart it was so sweet and touching. The ending of this story could not have been more perfect for this couple.
“We loved it !”
This was a new series for me, haven’t read the first one, but I did enjoy this one, lots of characters, banter, playfulness, families and fun to be had in here!!
Desi is just coming out of a bad marriage, her ex treated her badly having no respect for his wife as she is a little on the larger side and takes every opportunity to ridicule and disrespect her, with his new girlfriend in tow.
Callum has always liked BBW, Desi is just his type, and when he overhears her ex giving her grief he is straight in there defending her before he knows what’s hit him!
They end up spending time together and just click like they’ve known each other for years! Desi wants to complete in the local Spartan race, which her ex always does, and she wants to beat him. Callum and most of his family are up for this challenge also!
Their relationship blossoms from just simple friendship. Callum loves the way Desi looks and is always telling her how much he likes her. Desi has never experience this type of praise or want from a man before, it makes her feel so special! But he’s there to help also when she goes to the gym to try and get fitter for the race, encouraging her and helping her along.
I loved their relationship and I loved Callum’s family, so supportive and loyal. A really enjoyable read this, would recommend you give it a go.
Crazy Heifer is LIVE and I am loving the Valentine boys!
Callus & Desi were so much fun to read. This book was sexy, sweet, funny and gave me all the feels. I’m loving the new guys that are getting introduced in this series too. LLV writes a great cowboy!
Ok, this was a very cute read and had me laughing and also slightly tearing up at times. There was drama, but not really bad and dangerous drama, which was also a nice change of pace. The characters were all memorable and the storyline was very intriguing and captivating. But what really pulled me into the book was Desi.
I really liked her and also empathized with her character. I loved how strong she was and how she determined she became. She did not allow her ex to break her with his hurtful words, and she totally came out on top in my opinion. And Callum!!! Holy hades was he fantastic. He knew what he wanted and he went after it. He also stood beside Desi when she needed it most and he did it in some deliciously decadent ways.
Overall, great book. The characters were nice to reconnect with and the storyline really was engaging and kept me entertained. There was something that really impacted me as I have recently been through this. Once I got to that part I almost put the book down, but I kept on reading and found myself smiling with how the characters handled themselves during that time frame. So, two thumbs up and happy reading!
Desi and Callum…yeeehaw! I loved these two. Super fun to read and I devoured their story. Lani did a wonderful job with the perfect amounts of wit and steam. Definitely one I won’t be forgetting anytime soon. No crazy drama, just a feel good read with lots of humor and sexy times!
Can’t get enough of LLV’s books! Ashley @ Carolina Chic’s Read
Callum and Desi’s story will have you turning the pages. Desi has had a hard life and dealing with a crazy ex! Callum finds his girl in an unexpected way! These two find that they cannot stay away from each other and you will not want to miss their story. There are so many real life issues in this story and LLV keeps you wanting more! LLV is defiantly one of my one clicks and I can’t get enough of her books!
