I fell in love with his rope skills. I stayed because somehow he took hold of my heart and made it his.Callum Valentine didn’t mean to eavesdrop. Then again? When a man is calling a woman fat right in front of your table, it’s kind of hard not to intervene. Especially when the town’s most beautiful creature ever is the one being called fat.Desi just wants to be left alone. After an ugly divorce, … After an ugly divorce, she thinks she’s in the clear. Then her ex takes it upon himself to continue to make her life miserable, giving Desi no choice but to take it or leave.
In fact, her bags were nearly all the way packed when Callum poked his nose into the most embarrassing spectacle the town of Kilgore has ever witnessed. The moment he declares her his and off limits, everything changes—and definitely not for the better.
As if things couldn’t get worse than being called a pitiful, fat heifer in front of the hottest man she’s ever seen, Callum has to go and say that she’s his, and they have to play a game that she’s not quite sure she wants to be playing.
But before her eyes, things change. And suddenly the rules of the game aren’t clear. And they’re crossing boundaries neither one of them see coming.

Callum was blown away when he saw Desi sitting in a restaurant but when her soon to be ex-husband comes and flaunts his mistress and soon to be wife in her face he knows he has to do something. Desi has been downtrodden during most of her marriage the only highlight was her father-in-law and how no matter what he stood by her. When Callum stands up for her she doesn’t know what to think, can she trust him or is she falling for another good looking man just be used again? I loved this story and how entertaining, engaging, steamy, emotional and romantic it was. Desi is a strong woman but she has been kicked down so much. Callum is a man’s man and he is so alpha but in a good way. The other Valentine clan is amazing too. All these characters are amazing and I loved reading more about this family and the people they love. I can’t wait for more. HIGHLY RECOMMEND this book, author and series.
I’ve got to say that so far Callum Valentine is my favourite of the brothers, even though Ace was pretty hot!!
I adore Lani Lynn Vale’s books and I like the fact that this is set in one of the towns that we’ve come to know in other series.
We met Desi in the first book as she is Codie’s BFF and from glimpses in Herd That we knew that her ex was a twat off the highest order and a bully to boot but reading what she’d had to deal with made me hurt for her.
Callum hasn’t had the easiest of times himself (as you’ll know if you’ve already started the series) but he was a really good, caring, loyal guy and pretty much was smitten from the first time he saw Desi and set out to get to know her.
There was an attraction between the pair from the get go, the heat between them was combustible and I loved that he was open and candid about his likes when it came to her (and how she saw herself). I liked how comfortable they became together and the speed at which their relationship developed didn’t feel rushed or too much.
Some of LLV’s chapter heading had me chuckling hard!!!!
Crazy Heifer is a solid 4.5* read and a great addition to the series. I’m looking forward to Chute Yeah and finding out what Banks did that’s got his ‘lady love’ spitting feathers any times she sees him!!!
I’m really enjoying Lani Lynn Vale’s Valentine Boys series. I’ve read all of her books, I know all the back stories, and I’ve been waiting for these characters’ stories to be told for a long time. The Valentines have a tragic history, and of all Vale’s characters, it’s very rewarding to see these boys get their happily ever afters.
Crazy Heifer pairs Desi, a newly divorced woman finding herself after an awful marriage to an unfaithful, narcissistic man. Her ex is horrible, and he seems to live to torment her. Callum rides in to her rescue during one run-in with him, and I fell hard for this couple right then and there. Where her ex tore her down, Callum builds her up. Desi is strong in her own right, and I loved her upbeat positive outlook. This couple was so sexy together, they were so supportive of each other, so right for each other.
Vale could have gone in a lot of different directions with the Valentine Boys series. Considering their heavy, painful past, I’m glad she’s taken a lighter approach in telling their stories. Full of heart, heat and humor, Vale turns heart-break in happily ever after with a sweet, sexy love story between a cowboy and a baker. I loved it. Five smooches from me for Crazy Heifer by Lani Lynn Vale!

Gah… Callum!! This guy is so dang sweet, I need one of these Valentine guys for myself, (Don’t tell hubby…HA). Lani Lynn Vale has swept me right off my feet with this amazing book! I was hooked right from the start and I could relate to Desi in some ways! She was such a sweet, lovable character with a side of sass, and was perfect for our sweet man Callum. These two together made my heart sing.
I laughed, I wanted to slap Mal… (as did many people I am guessing), and my heart sang while reading this book. Everything was just so good and I loved that we got to meet Candy! I am excited to see how the next book goes. I am ready for more Valentine guys!
Absolutely loved Callum and Desi. The way Callum treats Desi, even when she is down on herself, is so swoon worthy!!! Loved their cute banter, especially when Desi was baking and cooking, sometimes it got steamy! In the end these two were exactly what the other one needed during this hard time.
You have to go read this book it won’t disappoint. And if you haven’t read the first one in this series go read it before you read this one!
Well another Valentine bite the dust! I did not know Callum was such a sweetheart and heartthrob, not once did he drop the ball on showing his love for Desi. I’m so glad Desi found her one, she had to be broken in order for her rise up and she definitely did when she met and fall for Callum, amazing read.
I am absolutely enjoying The Valentine Boys series. Callum and Desi are super cute together. I loved the fact that there is little angst, loads of protectiveness, and tons of steaminess. I almost felt like I was apart of this witty and fun family. Lani Lynn Vale never ceases to amaze me. I adored every moment of this story
Book 2 in Valentine Boys series by Lani Lynn Vale.
Callum is at a restaurant and over hears Mal bad mouthing Desi about her weight her look so he instructs waitress to deliver his meal and Desi together on her table. Callum give Mal a ace dressing down and they enjoy a great meal.
Absolutely love the duel narration between Maxine Mitchell and Sebastian York. Especially Sebastian York saying baby to Desi OMG so hot. Can’t get enough of this series
A sweet love story about love at first sight for Callum Valentine, who sees Desi being humilated by
her ex husband in a restaurant. Callum comes to her aid standing up for her.
Desi is taken with Callum and cannot believe he is interested in someone her size. The beginning
of their relationship takes off from there. The way Callum looks after Desi is swoony. Desi is
a kind and sweet person. Lani L Vale, provides a continuation of the Valentine brothers life
and takes us on a lovely journey of kindness, hope and love. A great read and of course a
HEA ending. I highly recommend the book enjoy the fun read.
You cant go wrong with a Lani Lynn Vale book! I couldnt put this down!!! I love family driven series! Lani Lynn Vale is the queen of this! I dont know how she keeps track of all of them!! This one is my favorite in the series so far! I would definitely recommend this book! Cant wait for the next one!!
Was given an arc for an honest review
The Valentine Boys are so entertaining and funny. I love these characters. Couldn’t put it down
Love this series from Lani. The cowboys are super fun 🙂 The book is very funny and very easy to read. The story line are all so good. (I read the first 2)
Another great read by LLV.
LLV manages to make you feel all the emotions for the characters, it may be love or hate or something in-between but you will feel it.
I think this is my favorite Valentine brother! Callum says he’s a savage, but all I saw in this book was a kind and protective man. The only time he got angry was when the woman he wanted was insulted and he controlled himself. I would have done more!
So, Desiderata is recently divorced from this horrible man who cheated on her, wasn’t a good husband anyway, and his only attribute was he had a fantastic father. So she kept the father, kept the house and threw Mal out of her life. The problem? He keeps on appearing around town to harass her with his new girlfriend who used to be Ace Valentine’s girlfriend. The lady does run around!
Callum saw one instance where Mal and girlfriend were insulting Desi and he decided to take charge of the situation. He took Desi under his protection, involved his family into assisting, and they all joined the Spartan Texas Race to assist her and show up Mal, who is a frequent winner. This is a case of a family who gathers all around a wonderful woman and gives her the acceptance and support she didn’t get from her husband.
Mal thought he was getting a size 6 woman when they married, and when she got sick, couldn’t work out and gained weight, he lost all interest and started cheating. What a prize! Desi was lucky in that she’s the exact type that Callum likes, and although he was respecting her distance while she dealt with the aftermath of her divorce, he left her with no doubts he was waiting and would pounce as soon as he got her signal.
Definitely the way to a man’s heart is through the stomach; Desi’s talent making cakes and other bakery sweet were the deciding factor in gaining acceptance with the Valentine boys. They could attack food like rabid dogs! We get to enjoy frequent gatherings of the Valentine clan with girlfriends, spouses and nephews. They’re a rowdy bunch and a lot of fun!
There are mentions of the Valentine family tragedy. Callum recounts his version and each time we learn a little more of what happened during and after.
The love story develops fast, these characters really know who they want, and we’re treated to sweet moments, protection moves, and very sexy hot times. As usual with LLV, it’s a warm hearted story with great characters, a wonderful family, and a great epilogue. We’re also introduced to Banks, Callum’s darker twin brother and we’re now looking forward to his love interest story. I just love these stories, because as the series goes on, I get new characters to like and love and meet again in other offshoot series. Sweet!
So these Valentine Boys are freaking awesome. I really liked Ace and Codie in Herd that but I think Desi and Callum beat them out in Crazy Heifer. Or maybe it’s just that there was a little more going on with Desi’s acehole ex and all the boys wanted in on the action so we saw a whole lot more of the brothers. And oh man the brothers. And the nephews, can I just say, are shaping up to be just as solid men as their father and uncles.
So Desi we already kind of knew from Herd That, being as she was Codie’s bestie and obviously we knew Callum since he’s Ace’s brother. But with them being the focus of this book I just loved them so much. Desi was such a sweetheart. And her ex was such a jerk I really wanted him to get hit by a falling piano. And his new fiance needed to be gently slapped in the face with a brick. But Desi took the high road and acted like the adult which is something I respect especially since I haven’t even got the directions to that road yet.
Callum was just beautiful. I loved that he was instantly attracted to Desi and her curves and that she was exactly his type and he wasn’t shy in showing her. But I especially loved that regardless of that he was determined to prevent her from being bullied by her ex and his fiance. And he went in hard and used it not just to defend Desi from Mal but also to spend time with her and claim her. He was exactly what she needed and he treated her like she walked on water and I just adored them as a couple.
I loved the background characters and like I said we got a lot of the brothers in this one so I am excited to keep getting more of their stories. And we got to know a little about Candy so I am doubly excited for her and Banks to explode in a big cloud of angry hate sex chemistry. But I am also praying that Darby gets himself a hottie jeweller sales person because she seriously felt like she could give that boy a run for his money. I was devastated at the loss of Molloy, he brought so much to this story and I would have loved to have him all through the series. But knowing there’s still so much goodness to come I can’t wait.
Crazy Heifer by Lani Lynn Vale is the second book in her Valentine Boys series. Set in the same small town as our KPD Officers and SWAT guys, these Valentine brothers will melt your heart. This is Callum Valentine’s story, and we knew it was coming, at least we did if we read book one, Herd That. Callum is Ace’s younger brother, a twin, and absolutely besotted with Desi. Determined to break through her armor, help her train for the Spartan Texan race, help her deal with her poisonous ex-husband and his new fiancee and just basically be there when she needs him. Desi starts to realize that not all men are scum like her ex and while she tried to hold back, Callum is just absolutely everything she needs. He gives her the family she misses having and supports her and raises her up instead of beating her down with mental and verbal abuse. Emotional and less dark and twisty than some Lani Lynn Vale series have been I cannot wait to read more of the Valentine brothers! Enjoy!
Okay, don’t get me wrong, I’m an absolute fan of Lani’s book and every single one has been devourable. I did enjoy this one quite a bit, but I didn’t quite connect with it like I hoped. I’ve loved getting to know the Valentine brothers a lot and am definitely looking forward to the next one.
Desi’s ex was the absolute worst! I truly liked Desi, but I wasn’t really a fan of how often she was saved by Callum. As I kept reading through the book, the more it happened, the more it just wasn’t sitting with me.
One of the most interesting parts of Crazy Heifer was her relationship with her ex’s father. He was like a dad to her, I had no problem with it, it was just an intriguing addition to the story. But it really shows what kind of man her ex was, when your own father is always teaming up with Desi.
I’m definitely looking forward to the next Valentine!
**AN ARC WAS PROVIDED BY THE PR IN EXCHANGE FOR A REVIEW**
Absolutely adore Desi & Callum! So far, I’m loving how this series is written. Codie & Ace gave us a glimpse into Desi & Callum, and their book continued by giving us a glimpse at the next couple to have a story. I really like that a lot!
Their story is full of LLV banter, sexy times, family, friends, and great quotes! There also might be a time or two where having some tissues nearby would be a good idea… *sniffle* But overall this story brought lots of smiles & LOL moments at the antics of our main & supporting characters. : )
I have followed Lani Lynn Vale for a while now. With each new story she has only grabbed me and held me closer to her world. Crazy Heifer (The Valentine Boys Book 2) is another story that touched many places in my heart. But don’t let the name fool you.
There is nothing crazy about Desi. There may be crazy all around her but she is not. Desidara (Desi) is strong, caring and compassionate. Desi also is no “stick girl” and that is just fine with me. Her history is not a good one but her hidden angel has always been there to support her.
Callum is the older brother of the Valentine family. If you have read any of this series you know their history. If you have not, Lani does not leave you guessing. Callum is all Alpha, a family man, and a man that has gone through more than most ever will. And Callum does not prefer “stick women”.
This story had me rolling in laughter at one moment, shaking my head at revelations revealed the next and close to tears by the month. Watching the ups and downs and sheer determination from all the family is heartwarming and in the end Lani Lynn brings a warm feeling to the body.
Great job Lani Lynn Vale and worth all the stars.
Lani Lynn Vale brings readers Callum and Desi’s romance in Crazy Heifer.
Newly divorced, Desi is struggling to make her own way in a small town that loves being in everyone’s business. She’s also being tormented by her cheating ex and his new fiance. While he wasn’t intending to eavesdrop, Callum Valentine hears the nasty comments being tossed at Desi and decides he isn’t having it and makes his move.
After declaring Desi his, Callum knows he’s all in. And, he’s going to make sure Desi knows just how beautiful she is. But, she’s definitely going to need some convincing. As the boundaries of friendship are quickly crossed, Callum and Desi find their way to a happy ever after.
I adored Callum and Desi so much! They were a fabulous couple from the start and just seemed to fit together perfectly into an easy and comfortable relationship. Callum was so good for Desi, building her up when her ex had done nothing but tear her down for years.
The really special moments in this book for me, however, were between Desi and Malloy, her ex-father in law. Lani created such an amazing bond between these characters that added an incredible dynamic to the book that was unexpected and fabulous!
Readers will love seeing more of the Valentine siblings as well as Georgia and Niko’s crazy brood as they rally around Desi in her quest to show her ex just how much she could accomplish without him in the picture. The epilogue and glimpse into Desi and Callum’s future was a treat as well. 5 stars!
