When NY reporter Paige MacKenzie leaves Manhattan for Jackson Hole, she has only two things on her mind: enjoy life with Wyoming’s breathtaking Grand Tetons as the backdrop, and spend more time with handsome cowboy Jake Norris as he prepares to open his guest ranch. As Paige begins to settle in, a stranger’s odd behavior leads her to research western filming in the area – in particular, the movie, … the movie, Shane. Will digging into Hollywood’s movie connection with Jackson Hole simply lead to a freelance article for the Manhattan Post, or will it lead to a dangerous hidden secret?

There is nothing I love more than taking a break from a difficult to read, to enjoy a quick and fun Paige MacKenzie adventure!
I have been to Jackson Hole and frankly, I am ready to go back and have an inkling to watch the movie ‘Shane’.
This installment was quick, fun, witty with a tidbit of romance and Paige’s trouble-making adventure of finding trouble when she shouldn’t.
The mystery isn’t thick or suspenseful, but is still a fun mystery to follow the clues with Paige. Jake knows how much trouble she can find herself in and if you have read previous installments; you will know too! But it’s what makes Paige, well, Paige!
Joining Paige in her new found home makes the story all that more alluring and the people of Jackson Hole make it all the more fun!
If you are ever in need of a quick, fun read; any of the Paige MacKenzie mysteries will do, but I think this was one of my more favorite MacKenzie mysteries!
I was thrilled Paige came back to Jackson Hole and have enjoyed this whole series. Can’t wait for the next one!
Crazy Fox Ranch is a wonderful sweet romantic mystery with a gorgeous setting of Jackson Hole, Wyoming. From the moment the main character arrives & reconnects with her long distance guy there is a hint of suspense. A stranger begins to appear in places that bring suspicion & questions to an otherwise calm town and the reader will be immediately drawn in to finding the answers. This is a very enjoyable book with believable characters with a hint of romance & suspense.
I’ve read all the Paige McKenzie stories and keep comingback for more!
The ending surprised me!
I enjoy reading this series. This novella was short and sweet – basicly getting the main character, Paige MacKenzie, settled and committed to her move from NYC to Jackson Hole, Wyoming along with solving an old crime from the old cowboy movie days. And, of course, her move brings her new home down the road from her handsome, supportive cowboy boyfriend. Looking forward to more adventures with Paige and her growing community of friends in Jackson Hole.
This one continues Above the Bridge. Same characters. Just a quick read of familiar characters.
I have read Deborah’s Moonglow Novellas but this is my first time reading a full Paige MacKenzie mystery, and you do not need to have read any of the previous books in order to read this as it works well as a stand alone.
Paige has left Manhattan and moved to Jackson Hole to be closer to her cowboy boyfriend Jake Norris. In the previous books their love has blossomed and she has made the decision to move closer to him and start a fresh but still do her journalism which she will freelance stories from Jackson Hole back to her old newspaper. As she starts to delve into the Hollywood connection that Jackson Hole has with old Western movies, Paige discovers much more than just a movie. When strange things start to happen at Jake’s ranch and a persistent gentleman named Percy who is very keen to buy the property despite it not being for sale, Paige gets her investigation hat on and uncovers a bigger mystery going on with regards to the ranch and Jackson Hole in a whole.
Paige discovers a series of hole on the property which Jake puts down to being a fox digging, but she discovers more dug up holes when she visits parts of Jackson Hole that were used in the movie Shane. She discovers some metallic items near some holes, surely its not the same fox digging all over the place? and if not a fox who is doing all the digging and for what reasons?
This was a good little mystery and I really enjoyed my first foray with Paige and cant wait to go back and read the previous book (i am desperate to get her connection to Mist from the Moonglow Cafe novellas)
This classic cozy mystery is set out west with romantic, if sometimes jealous, elements.
It is a nod to the early days of classic western films, when men were rugged and hardy.
After realizing that Jake would never “fit” in Manhattan, Paige MacKenzie has taken the leap and quit her reporter’s job, going freelance, and moved to Jackson Hole, Wyoming to pursue more of her dreams. Almost immediately she finds herself pursuing a mystery, one it almost seems she creates herself. That doesn’t keep her research from dragging her into danger.
Deborah Garner writes beautiful descriptive passages. Her characters are well developed and she makes you care about them. Even as the mystery thickens and life throws up difficulties for everyone, this book can make you smile. Its quick pace and easy to read and follow format make this an enjoyable weekend escape read.
Paige MacKenzie has finally succumbed to the lure of Jackson Hole, packing up her apartment and leaving Manhattan to return, at least temporarily, to her rental cabin near Jake’s ranch. Between helping Jake get ready for an Open House at his renovated guest ranch, and getting acquainting with the regular residents, Paige is planning a new magazine article on Jackson Hole’s film history, that includes the western classic, “Shane.” But this leads her to wonder if someone else is also researching these original movie sites and digging for something else. This is a delightful mystery series with some truly picturesque landscape descriptions. The author has captured the flavor of a more sedate lifestyle, replete with equally unique characters. I love the interplay between Jake and Paige, especially in light of her unexpected jealousy over Jake’s construction foreman, Chris. And I also enjoy the occasional humorous moments, such as the bison blockade. I am looking forward to returning to Jackson Hole for more adventures with Paige and Jake.
