This book is so raw and addictive!
How can anyone resist a damaged hero? Talon Steel was so broken and I can only hope he isn’t beyond repair!
Jade Roberts’ life has imploded and she’s gone to her best friend to lick her wounds. Her bestie happens to be rich, lives on a successful ranch/winery, and offers the almost perfect sanctuary to soothe Jade’s soul. The only problem: her gorgeous and moody older brother, Talon. He was a walking orgasm and Jade couldn’t resist him. Not that he tried very hard to resist her. But the more they came together in passionate embraces, the further away he seemed. His traumatic past tormented his present and his walls were practically impossible to scale. Those insurmountable obstacles didn’t stop Jade and by the end, I think her determination to really know the truth of Talon would be even stronger. I’m sure the next book will delve more into it and I can only hope that her patience holds on for a little bit longer.
I had a hard time really connecting to this story and I’m not quite sure why. I know it wasn’t the writing because Helen Hardt can write. I figured that out when I fell in love with her Blood Bond Saga. I was fascinated by the flashbacks, although they depicted the horrible things Talon experienced in the past. I think I just wanted more Talon. The fact is, much of this book proved to be a bit repetitive and while that can be enjoyable to some, I was looking for the meat and potatoes of the story. I’m looking forward to the next book to see just how the author will develop Talon and Jade’s relationship and if his story will finally be told.
This book started off pretty good. I was interested in the Steel family and their farm. Talon piqued my interest from the moment Jade laid eyes on him in the airport. Obviously there’s a lot of mystery surrounding his character since Jade had never met him since he was off in the Marines. But even still Talon displays odd behavior that definitely hints at a dark past. Jade is looking for a fresh start after he fiance jumped ship at their wedding.
The “chemistry” and I say that loosely was awkward, but she seemed to get under Talon’s skin. I liked that she was changing things about him in what I thought was a good way. A way for him to open up to her like he couldn’t with his own family. But Talon never actually opened up to Jade about his past. Not once. I think that the relationship between Jade and Talon was not healthy. While she made him feel and possibly want things he’s never thought of, his behavior continued to worsen the more he was around her.
I think the addition of Jade becoming the assistant attorney hurt this book more than helped. The second she gets hired, she gets put on a case that is a conflict of interest. She tries to plead with her boss, but threatens her job is she doesn’t comply, and she goes along with it in an attempt to justify it in her head. The way she handles the case is all kinds of wrong. This totally killed what little I liked about this book and it completely fell apart. Also the sexy scenes were bad. The dialogue was not good at all. I had to skim through them.
I’m not sure how I feel about this book. I thought it started off with a lot of potential, but quickly fell apart. I’m not sure I can read two more books about this “couple.” There were a lot of things wrong with the story and the way it was written.
Hate hate hate cliffhangers.
Very good but ending makes you have to buy the next books. I got this one free not realizing there were more then one book. ADULTS ONLY.
This book ended in the middle of a scene. There was absolutely no closure whatsoever. It’s like the author forgot to finish it.
Absolutely phenomenal!! Can’t get enough of Steel Brother’s
I binge read this whole series in one week. I could not put them down. I highly, highly recommend these!!!
Have read all in this series and waiting for the other ones to come out. I stay on the edge of my chair most of the time. And have reread all of them twice. And I have read Dusty and that series. Have really enjoyed them all, it keeps me interested and ready for more
I just couldn’t put this book down! Be prepared to binge read this book in one or two sittings!
Erotica combined with mystery combined with arm chair psychology. Actually no, it’s not erotica; the sex scenes in this book are straight up porn, and badly written porn at that. With a cliff hanger no less.
The character development is pretty spotty, consisting of flashbacks for him, needless repetition for her. The character development for the secondary characters was a mix of repetition and boilerplate “this is what an a ‘X’ would do/say.”
The bedroom scenes were, for me, laughable. They were hot, there’s no denying that, but when those two started talking during sex, the image of a 16-18 year old boy writing a Dear Penthouse letter leapt to mind. Although I now have a new phrase for describing a good bedroom scene (‘red hot monkey sex’ in case.you were wondering).
What bothered me the most though, was the lack of resolution at the end of the book. Instead of wrapping things up, two new characters are introduced, and if you want to find out what happens to the main characters, you have to get the next book. Hardt drops an enticing detail that’s been the focus of the flashbacks as the very last sentence of the book, and even though I’m not a fan of her writing style, I want resolution, dang it! It’s a genius marketing technique, but for someone in The NY Times bestseller list, I feel like it’s a bit beneath her.

I enjoyed the plot line of this novel as it discussed issues of PTSD and grief, involving Jade and Talon. However, I would’ve preferred to be told that the story had a cliffhanger at the end. The story fell short with too many explicit and sexual scenes which didn’t move the story forward. I didn’t like how Jade would give in to Talon’s sexual aggression when she should have known he was using sex as a way to avoid his deeply troubled traumatic past involving abuse. I understand how you can have books in a series, but something in the first story needs to be resolved and nothing was resolved in Craving. I also believe that readers have the right to know it has a cliff hanger ending.
Craving, by Helen Hardt. I absolutely loved this book. Helen Hardt how did you know exactly what I was looking for when I’m reading a book? The writing was so simple and fantastic. It was so easy to read.
I love it when the writer speaks to their readers in plain sentences. No need for words were readers has to look up the meaning of a word to understand what the writer is trying to convey to them. Just give it to them straight and Helen has done exactly that. This helped me enjoy the book even more. With an awesome story like this, Helen did not want to lose her readers.
I enjoyed the entertainment that the book brought me. I was very much drawn into the story. Not just by the sexual part of it, but by the drama. The background stories of the characters really intrigued me. The little hints about Talons story throughout the book really got my imagination churning.
It’s like I had to know what his story was all about. The tug and take between Jade and Talon was so powerful in the book. I liked the romance between the two. Talon raw dominant side oozes with sex appeal. When Jade looks at him, she can only think of him as sex on a stick, and oooh what a good stick he is.
Talon, loves Jade so much. His need to protect her from thinking he’s less of a man touched me so much in this book. Jade, she is someone Talon really needs in his life. She is so powerful and strong. Talon needs that strength.
I loved everything about this book. The sex is wow. My only request is longer sex scenes and more details please. I love it when a man is romantic when he talks to his woman while making love to her. Helen, you did a great job with this book.
Keep it up lady. I look forward to reading more from you. I recommend this book with two snaps and a, Talon, you have your water and I have my tea now let’s go have some fun in the bedroom. Until next time my fellow readers… read on.
Did a 5th grader write this???
Craving is not for the faint of heart or those who dislike cliffhangers. If steamy scenes, heartbreaking themes, and unfinished tales don’t scare you, hang on tight and dive into this story. You’ll love it. Be prepared to have your heart broken by vivid depictions of child abuse (both mental and sexual) though. However, Talon and Jade’s story is quite worth it.
Craving (Steel Brothers Saga, #1) was another great read by Helen Hardt. Jade decides to go to her best friend’s ranch in Colorado after her fiancé left her at the alter. She didn’t want a man but finds herself attracted to her best friends brother, Talon Steel. He is a very broken man who never helped from a traumatic event as a child. He just basically exists and finds his next conquest in women. But Jade is different for him, he desires her like he has never desired someone else. Although there are many secrets that seem to want to pull them apart, they can’t fight their attraction. I really enjoyed reading Talon and Jade’s story and I can’t wait to read more by Helen Hardt.
Two stars may be too much.
Free but it cost too much of my time to get through it.
Poorly written. Characters were not well developed neither was the story. There was not any attraction, any angst just immature writing then the story just ended. Seriously just in the middle of a scene. I will not read any more of these books.
From the very beginning I was pulled in by the author’s use of descriptive words.
Jade, after experiencing heartache, is going to stay with her best friend Marj on Marj’s family’s ranch.
Talon, the brother she hasn’t met, is troubled. But there is so much more. The sex is off the charts, but is that enough?
Can’t wait to read Obsession!
Don’t like books where you get first one free and then have to keep buying more and more books to see what happens. I didn’t do it story wasn’t that good
