DNF @ 20% ~ Promo on FB and this first book in the series is free. I guess you get what you pay for. Though I can’t imagine shelling out $7 or $8 a piece for novella-length books of this caliber.
First, the author can’t decide what color the h’s eyes are. They’re grey. They’re tanzanite (a purple/blue). They’re steel. They’re blue-grey. They’re steel blue. If you can’t keep track of an eye color of the main character in the same sentence much less the few chapters… we’re in trouble.
Then the author can’t decide whether Jade has known and visited Marjory’s family for 7 years or if she’s a complete stranger. She, in turn, describes previous visits and then we’re told Jade is being shown around town, introduced to a coffee shop, etc. Lots of contradiction.
Oh, and the “ranch vehicle” she borrows from the family? A Ford Mustang. Because we all know how useful Mustangs are on a ranch and how they’re perfectly designed for gravel roads… oh wait…
Talon is supposed to be 35, yet somehow he is totally surprised that the cheese inside a grilled cheese sandwich is hot.
More relevant to the fact that this is supposed to be erotic/romantic… Talon is an ass. There’s nothing attractive about him and his only positive quality seems to be making Jade’s nipples hard. Which is something that happens repeatedly in 48 hours and is described with middle-school finesse. “bright red erasers”. Seriously?
Why is Jade so turned on by someone who either ignores her, mocks her, or dismisses her? There is nothing sexy about a man who “slams” his lips to yours twice (I guess that’s the only way he knows how to?) and then stalks off without a word. Then the next time he sees you he acts as if nothing happened.
And why is he using phrases like “she could heal me”. He’s known her for less than 24 hours at this point and they have had an hour’s worth of stilted conversation about hamburgers and her insistence that she “not be a burden”
And WTF? If the people you’re staying with are as loaded as you keep going on and on and on and on … uh sorry. If they are so rich, you are not a “burden”. Methinks the author needs a dictionary…
This is a trilogy that progresses into a series of trilogies. Each Steel sibling gets a triad of “books”. No thanks.
I can see why this is easily Helen’s most popular series. Narrators were perfect for Jade and Talon. I have to say reading about a book thats my current hometown is cool, but also kind of weird. Onto the next one!
This is a long serial novel, and it was pretty good. I have a feeling that this one is going to have lots of twists on the way! If you like a good soap opera story, this one will keep you reading!
Why have I not read this series yet??? Just finished Craving, and already picking up Obsession! Craving has your emotions in a bundle all the way to the very end. Love the start of Talon and Jade!
This book had me wanting more! I could not turn the page fast enough to find out what happened next. I loved the story of Talon, as tragic as it was. Could not wait for the next book!
I really enjoyed this book. Now I’m looking to read the next book.
I won a bundle of books from the author, a new author for me and this book was included.
Left at the altar be her fiancee, Jade Roberts goes to her best friend, Marjorie Steel’s family ranch in Colorado, to wait for the results that she past her law boards. While she had previously met two of Marjorie’s brother, the middle brother, Talon, had been in Iraq. She is drawn to Talon and he to her, but there is something wrong with him, aside from PTSD from being Marine. He keeps giving her mixed signals, because he knows he is broken, but she makes him feel. He seems to have been abused as a child and there are family secrets. While I have no problem with series, if each book is about a different couple, and can actually be read as a stand alone, I HATE cliffhangers and this book ends with nothing resolved, so the reader has to keep buying more books to get closure, which is why it only gets 3 stars.
This book was so good I read it in a day just as good as fifty shades of gray
Jade is left at the alter when her fiance, Colin, never shows up. She isn’t too upset, they’ve drifted apart since she stayed in Denver to get a law degree and he moved to NY after he graduated. Her best friend invites Jade to come live on the Steel Ranch and wait to see if she passed her bar. There she meets the middle brother, Talon, who is a troubled soul.
I didn’t understand why Jade even went through planning a wedding when she really wasn’t that interested in marrying Colin. It just seemed the thing to do. I liked the ranch and the Steel family, but Talon was confusing. He has suffered in the past, but then was able to join the Marines and served in Iraq. But his problems aren’t connected to his military service. When Jade and Talon are attracted to each other, the troubles begin.
There were times while reading this book that I was disappointed with the writing (some repetitive language in the sex scenes). This is a book that is an introduction to the series, but it ends in a type of cliffhanger. I wish there was a 3.5 rating, but it is better than a 3 so I rounded up to 4.
Great page turner
But this series. Love, love, love it
I Love the whole series of the Steel Brother’s. Helen Hardt wish she had more books series like that one.
got me hooked right from the beginning and hang by a thread waiting to read the next one
I just finished book 7, Shattered. Starting from this single book. I couldn’t put them down. I love going through new loves, especially through horrible times. Beware, this book is great!!
Love the series so far. I had just discovered Helen Haedt. Can’t wait till the end of the month to. get the next two books
Craving is the first in The Steet Brothers set. Quite the page turner. Held my interest. Left me wanting more and more….by Helen Hardt.
Words cannot describe how much I LOVED all the books in the Steel Brothers Saga…this series has introduced me to a great Author, Helen Hardt…Craving is the first book in the series, and it is awesome. There is such a great storyline and you feel as though you know the characters personally. I read this book very quickly..you will not want to put it down!
For the readers wanting to get into this saga, if you start reading, do it in groups of three. Better to have all 9 handy. But 1-3, 4-6, 7-9 wil work. This series is a great read. It does come with a warning label. This family is strong. In mind, body, and soul. Each in their different ways.
Oh my gosh these books are amazing I’m completely in love with them.
Couldn’t put this book down. Pretty sure I read it in one day. This book is not for everyone! There is content that could be too unsettling and disturbing for some. There is a warning at the beginning of the book. I liked the story over all. I just finished the 3rd book and my only criticism is that there are sex scenes like every other chapter that felt forced.
