This book is exciting, intriguing, and suspenseful! This book is full of love, romance, hope, forgiveness, redemption, and second chances.
As a victim of stalking, I do enjoy reading these types of books as it brings light to this heinous crime. Many people don’t understand how serious stalking is and how far it can go. Books like this one, highlight how important this is and how it can easily and quickly escalate.
I think this book was well written and thoroughly researched.
Some things were easy to see coming, but this book is a romantic suspense and there are a few things that will surprise you.
This book was jam packed with action and suspense that will keep you at the edge of your seat.
This book was so fast paced and there was a lot going on. It definitely didn’t drag, but so much was happening you kind have had to be like, “Wait, what just happened?!” and possibly re-read that last paragraph again.
This book featured multiple POVs which I love; because it helps you really understand and connect with the characters on a deeper level.
Both main characters, Jenny and Pete were well developed, honest, and relatable.
I really liked Jenny as she was intelligent, strong, independent, and a fighter. After being a victim of stalking she didn’t hide – she took back her life. Jenny took mixed martial arts and self-defense classes. She even went a step further by teaching other women about MMA, and helping them become brave, tough, and prepared for worst case scenarios.
I also liked Pete as he was genuine and always wanting and trying to be a better man. Pete Gandry works in Witness Protection. He is sent on assignment back to Smithfield, a small town he has a negative and complicated history with. Pete works hard to recover from his mistakes and start over with a clean slate. It isn’t long before he meets Jenny and they quickly fall in love with each other. However, Jenny is still dealing with past and more recent issues that keep her distracted. Both bring heavy baggage into this complicated relationship and they are faced with many challenges individually and as a couple. They say love can conquer all right? This book is sure worth reading to see if that’s true!
This book is book two in the Smithfield Series. Although this book can be read as a standalone, there are so many references to the first book that I think it would have been better to have read book one first. Book two still made sense on its own, however, if I had read book one first I think book two would have been more enjoyable and easier to follow along. Reading book one would have allowed for a better understanding of the characters backgrounds and the story-line.
There is a love story – as this book is labeled a romance. However, I thought the love story took more of a secondary backseat role with the main focus of a suspense/thriller. I didn’t mind that, as I am more interested in being intrigued and captivated – which I was while reading this book.
This book is full of excitement, intrigue, suspense, love, romance, forgiveness, redemption, and second chances. This book does have some surprises and twists that you won’t see coming. I do recommend this book, however, I highly suggest reading book one first.
