He’s her boss. She’s his best friend. These two deep-space convoy security specialists are fighting their simmering attraction…until a starship crash on a deadly ice world changes everything.Elana Korra loves her security job as a medic on the convoy ship, the Sky Nomad…except for the fact that she’s in love with her boss. Rynan is tough, loyal, and protective, and she knows he will never … knows he will never cross the line with her despite her deepest fantasies. But one scorching kiss sets up a smoldering tension, and as they head off into uncharted space on a treasure hunt to find an invaluable old Earth treasure, Elana knows it is time to make a change–get Ry to admit how he feels about her or leave. But a deadly attack leaves Ry and Elana on a damaged, out-of-control ship hurtling toward an unforgiving ice world.
Rynan Phoenix lives for his job of keeping the Phoenix Deep-Space Convoy safe. The nightmare of his childhood has taught him to steer well clear of romantic relationships, and he’s forced himself to ignore Elana’s compact body and gorgeous face. But when they find themselves stranded on an ice world with passengers to protect and space pirates hunting them down, Ry is forced to confront just how he feels about the most important woman in his life.
Ry and Elana will need all of their training in order to keep themselves alive. As they find hints to the old Earth treasure, their desire turns hotter and deeper…but then they discover that far more dangerous things call this ice planet home…
Note to readers: This STAND ALONE sci fi romance contains a lot of action (think starship crashes, space pirates, icy adventures), cool offsiders (some sexy brothers) and a steamy romance (lots of sexy times between a hard-headed man and his best friend). This is treasure hunting sci-fi style. So if you like it fast, and fun, and sexy, this is for you!

Q & A with the Author
Q – How would you describe the Phoenix Adventures series?
A – Treasure hunters in space! A few readers have said it’s like Indiana Jones set far into the future. All the books in the series are fast, fun thrill-ride treasure hunts for old Earth artifacts. There is lots of action, adventure, space opera, and of course, romance. I’m thrilled the books in the series have won so many awards from a SFR Galaxy Award for Most Fun New Series to a Prism Award for Best Futuristic Romance (On a Rogue Planet) to the Romance Writers of Australia Romantic Novella of the Year (Beneath A Trojan Moon).
Q – Why did you want to write the series?
A – I love action, adventure and romance. And I love science fiction romance and all the endless possibilities. Combine all that with a fascination with ancient artifacts and the Phoenix Adventures were born. I really wanted to capture what the expeditions of old must have felt like – trekking through jungles or desert sands and stumbling across crumbling ruins. Since all the good stuff has been found nowadays, I looked to the future and jetted off into space.
Q – What order should I read the books in?
A – All the Phoenix Adventures books are stand-alone adventures – many readers have entered the series with later books in the series. However, characters from the early stories do appear in later books, so I think it adds something to the reading experience to read them in order. Here’s the order I suggest:
– Among Galactic Ruins (prequel)
– At Star’s End
– In the Devil’s Nebula
– On a Rogue Planet
– Beneath a Trojan Moon (novella)
– Beyond Galaxy’s Edge
– On a Cyborg Planet (novella)
– Return to Dark Earth
– On a Barbarian World
– Lost in Barbarian Space
– Through Uncharted Space
– Crashed on an Ice World

4 stars – It was really good
Elana Korra has been in love with her best friend and boss Rynan for years. But she finally admits that things need to change. Rynan needs to admit his feelings or she will leave. But first they have to survive crash landing on a n ice planet.
This was another great, action packed adventure. Rynan is extremely protective and security conscious, which makes him a great security leader for the convoy. He has been friends with Elena for years but has always denied his attraction to her because he is her boss. I really enjoyed watching Rynan struggle to overcome his past and embrace his feelings for Elana.
Elana was a great heroine. She was smart, tough, and kind. I liked that she realized her current life wasn’t making her happy and set about changing it, even if it went poorly. It showed how courageous she was.
Elana and Rynan were a great couple who really worked well together. They both had their own childhood traumas to overcome and I think it made them even stronger for it. I am sad that this is the last Phoenix book but it was a great series with some great adventures. I hope we see more space adventures from Hackett in the future.
Trigger Warnings: Rynan was abused as a child.
All you PA fans rejoice! The Phoenix crew is back! Crashed on an Ice World brings us Rynan and Elana’s story with all the action and steam we’ve come to crave. These two have a tough row to hoe as they’re best friends and we all know you don’t mess with a good thing, right? Well, maybe. But their attraction to each other is the least of their troubles. Crashed is a sure fire hit for fans of romance and action
Elana is done pretending not to feel anything towards Rynan. He has been her friend for years and she can’t really remember when it turned to love but there is no hope for her. He is a love-em and leave-em type and she knows she deserves better than that. Her family overlooked her and treated her as a worker not a daughter. She won’t settle for anything less than love.
Rynan is still reeling from the brain trauma he suffered. He forgets things and fails to remember the simplest things, causing him so much frustration. But when Elana declares she is leaving…well that is just crazy. He wants Elana but he is her boss and she is his friend and he doesn’t want to sacrifice that for a relationship he would must likely crash and burn! But Fate has something more wild and wacky planned for these two, which includes an ice planet, icy monsters and space pirates, with a sprinkle of eccentric rich lady adventurer thrown in!
Rynan is stubborn and pig headed and Elana is so set on not being another cog in a machine that their love story is almost over before it begins. Goldie almost steals the show, that woman is feisty, fun and I want to be her when I grow up and win the lottery! So happy to be back amongst my favourite convoy and meeting up with some of the characters from previous books
I loved it! This author always delivers an original unusual story. Highly recommended.
