Sometimes you have to play dirty. So they say.RachelPlaying dirty takes on a new meaning when I fall in the mud in front of way too hot Remy Martin and catch him staring at me. Hard. No matter how hot his kisses are, I don’t need a man. Much less a hotshot firefighter to rescue me. But Remy’s got that whole tall, dark & protective thing going strong. So strong, I can’t resist. I’ve got a … strong.
So strong, I can’t resist.
I’ve got a messy past. The last thing I need is to fall for someone. Certainly not Remy who makes me want to break every rule I wrote for myself.
I never thought a man who calls me sweetheart might be enough to hold my heart hostage. But then, I wasn’t prepared for Remy.
Remy
Rachel Garrett is strong, smart & feisty. She’s also got a stay-away-from-me vibe for the ages.
I’ve got more than enough reasons to avoid romance, but I never could resist a challenge. Rachel doesn’t need me. Or so I think.
The closer I get, the more I want her. The second I see past the surface to the vulnerability underneath, well, that’s it. I don’t care if Rachel doesn’t need me. I need her.
*This is a full-length, standalone romance with a guaranteed HEA.

This is book 10 in the Into the Fire series and it features Rachel and the insanely delicious Remy. Wow! Rachel’s panty-melting description of Remy was spot-on! I had the perfect sound of his voice and picture of him in my mind while reading. Keep your fan handy because these two are causing a heat wave…in early Spring…in Alaska! The romance was exactly what they both needed. I do wish there was more drama with Bruce because it kind of felt we were being led that way and I was a tiny bit disappointed when there wasn’t. Being the Southern gentleman and all, I would have thought the epilogue would have been completely different than it was.
The story line was great and the characters even better. I love Willow Brook and it’s awesome residents. Any time I get a chance to be in their presence, I take it!
Another outstanding romance that’s part of the “Into the Fire Series”. Remy has only been in town for about a year. He’s a hotshot fire fighter who works hard but has suffered loss and hurt. Rachel is a medical assistant who just recently got out of a bad romantic situation. What I enjoy about these books is that they can be read as a stand-alone but it’s also great to revisit characters from the other books in this series. The development of the story and characters are so good that the reader can’t put the book down. There is romance, suspense, intrigue and both long and short-term friendships. I received a complementary copy of this book via Booksprout and chose to write a review. I look forward to reading future books by this author especially in this series.
It is hard to tell you what I like about this book without giving spoiler but I will state that if you have ever been in abusive situation this book might trigger flashbacks. The author did not go into extreme detail of the abuse but it was kept light with just enough to give the reader a glimpse of Rachel’s trauma.
Remy is a man with issues from his past and it is time for him to take a chance on happiness.

What a wonderful story. I could hardly put this book down .. the chemistry is wonderful between Rachel and Remy. In this series you can read everything separately .. but to know more about the other characters, you should definitely read the other parts. With this book I am very entertained .. everything came to its right and therefore it reads wonderfully. From me 5 stars.
Rachel loved Willow Brook, Alaska, but she had to admit that like all small towns, everyone knew your business. But that was also its charm. Everyone knew Rachel had gotten out of an abusive relationship with Bruce and gotten him out in jail. Well, really, he’d gotten himself put in jail. So she was sort of healing and resting easier and she’d gotten a dog in the last year. Remy, gorgeous, sexy, new hotshot firefighter, was a new friend who wanted to date her but he sensed she was skittish but not why (he did NOT know the history yet, too new). The attraction and chemistry between Rachel and Remy was explosive and their relationship was moving fast. Rachel was showing signs of anxiety….Would Remy be able to break down her walls? Remy had a few of his own! Were Rachel and Remy going to get an HEA? Read this captivating story by JH Croix. With this author you can’t go wrong!!

Can I Have A Remy?
Shh! Don’t tell my hubby I said that!
Dwah!
I hearted Remy!
He was such a sweet protector! * A swooooonnnny one at that *
Hot Shot firefighter and protective all southern gentleMAN *sigh*, Remy gets his heart to reset by Rachel, a guarded (with good reason) dog owning resident of Willow Brook who works for a doctors office and ran in the same circle of friends he did.
When Rachel’s dog Henry gives fate a shove- it’s in the direction of Remy, and a large mud puddle!
Sparks, fireworks, cannons, neons signs you name it they’re going off between them and this crazy encounter- but they both have pasts that threaten to throw these two off the course of their happy ever after…
Gah!
Perfection!
There was not a thing I did not love about this book! The characters connection felt REAL. I swear you could feel the zing of emotions coming off my Kindle!
I appreciated the way, Ms. Croix had Rachel, Remy, and all others involved deal with her abusive situation in a real, raw, heartfelt but not overly dramatized way.
If you have read any of the previous books, it’s nice to “catch up” with past books characters.
Sexiness overload, with a side southern gentlemen and an extra helping of possessive, protective, hearts on the mend, humorous, swoon you to the moon and back romance- that once you start you will not want to put down!
I cannot WAIT for The Next Series!
If you’re looking for steam, this couple definitely turned up the heat! Rachel and Remy’s relationship ignited out of nowhere and charged ahead like a freight train. And yet, Remy’s Southern charm and laid-back demeanor made this most whirlwind of romances smooth as chocolate. I loved to see Rachel grapple between wanting comfort and protection without becoming dependent, which is a really healthy debate to have as a woman in today’s world. Crash & Burn was an awesome read that I steamrolled through!

this is the story of Rachel and remy if you like hot firefighters and a strong woman you will love the book I was given acopy of the book but this is an honest review. they are both trying to avoid love but what are you to do when she falls chasing her dog right in front of you. love the descriptions of Alaska. you can read this be itself or check out the series , you will meet some of the some people from other books, love the firefighters
I loved this book. Especially because it shows how Rachel finally becomes strong again after being beaten down by her relationship with her ex. Abusive relations don’t start that way and you don’t see them coming until it is too late and sometimes it is really hard to get out. Victims often blames themselves (like Rachel did) for not seeing it sooner.
Rachel has promised herself that she will never be in a relationship again because of her last one a year ago that ended with him in jail for a year. Remy hasn’t really dated anyone since his parents died a couple years ago because he doesn’t want to lose anyone that close to him again. Remy is your typical tall, handsome, hotshot, southern gentleman with that southern drawl to die for. He has known Rachel for almost a year since he moved here but that was after what she had been through with her ex. They are friends but when he helps her out of the mud and sparks fly all bets are off. She feels it too but tries to fight it for a bit but in the end gives in to it. Then she doesn’t know if he is just there because her ex happens to be back in town or if he really likes her so she tries to distance herself. Remy calls her after a few days and she is sick so he goes over to take care of her for the next few days until she is will enough to be by herself again. Then when he comes back from being out on a call for a few days and ends up sick in the hospital she rushes to his side and takes care of him. Do they finally admit to each other how they really feel? Will Rachel ever believe that he can care for her and be protective without the jealousy like her ex had?
I loved Remy and Rachel’s story. They are absolutely perfect for each other! I’m enjoying this series set in Alaska and featuring hotshot firefighters. Each book just keeps getting better. While these can be read as stand-alones, it’s fun to read about recurring characters as they interact with the new “couples.” Really looking forward to reading the next book in the series.

Meet Remy Martin, tall, dark, handsome, Hotshot Fireman, oh and he is southern, yes he oozes southern charm. Remy has moved to Willow Brook to be one of the Hotshot Firemen, he has left a painful past and doesn’t plan to get attached to anyone ever again that can break his heart. He is a true gentleman though so when Rachel Garrett lands in the mud beside him he must help her and of course he can’t resist checking out her mud covered backside, fine backside that it is.
Rachel is just out for a run with her dog Henry, nothing out of the ordinary that is until she runs smack dab into Remy and then lands in a mud puddle. Why does the hottest man in town have to see her covered head to toe in mud? Why is he looking at her like he could devour her? Rachel doesn’t have time for a man, she has sworn off men forever but Remy does make her lady parts tingle. Fate and friends seem to keep putting the two together so why fight it but her little voice keeps telling her not to let her guard down.
This series is the absolute best. Every book is a great read and even though they are all standalones the characters build as you go as well as we get new characters too. Remy and Rachel are both dealing with tragic pain from their past and neither want to open up their heart for that kind of pain again but the heart wants what the heart wants. This book has the strength of a woman that was beat down and the heart of a man willing to love again. I received an early copy of this book and I HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT!
