Cute
okay, so some of the characters are almost a train wreck in their ineptitude. but not so much that you want to stop reading, just enough that you have to laugh at or with them… and there is something nice about being able to start and finish a book in part of an afternoon. satisfying. delightful reads.
Fun but nothing to write home about. I enjoyed them as I just needed something light and easy reading.
Syvia Selfman and Leigh Selfman have put together 7 wonderful mysteries in the “Cozy Mysteries 7 Book Set”. In “Murder She Typed, “Murder By The Book”, “Murder Takes a Holiday” and “Murder Over Miami” we meet Izzy Greene (short for Isadora because her mother wanted to be a ballerina) and her friend Flo, two middle-aged women trying to live their lives in normal ways and yet find themselves solving murders that Izzy keeps stumbling upon over and over again. They enjoy longs walks to lose weight and always end up in Starbucks drinking exotic coffees and eating pastries. When they interact with their friends and a variety of boyfriends, Izzy often finds a dead body. Sometimes they need to put on disguises and go to places that they would not ordinarily visit so that they can solve the crimes. When wearing their disguises, they also choose names for themselves that make readers laugh (or at least smile). In three of the books, they interact with handsome police Officer Martinelli who at first finds them annoying and then gets to like them, always warning Izzy to stay out of trouble and let him solve the murders. When Izzy goes to Miami to attend the wedding of a college housemate, she ends up being accused of murder and Flo has to fly from their home-state to help her since the Miami police are not familiar with all of her other murder involvements. In “Nothing Bundt Murder” and “Eclair Case of Murder” we meet Rosie Kale, an aspiring young journalist, who works at the Bundt Baby Bakery, Babette, owner of the bakery, Babette’s cheating husband Doug, wealthy real estate tycoon Casey Baron who wants to buy the bakery, Rosie’s Nana with whom Rosie lives and Nana’s friend Birdie. When the woman with whom Doug was having an affair is poisoned after eating one of Babette’s bundts and Babette is charged with the murder, Rosie tries to solve the murder and free Babette. In the “Eclair Case of Murder”, Rosie now works in the Cozy Cat Bakery owned by Nana and Birdie. Rosie wants to write a human interest story about the San Coronado Crisis Hotline for the news and entertainment website she now contributes stories to. When the woman Rosie talks out of committing suicide is found dead of an apparent suicide, Rosie becomes the object of public disdain because she was the person who spoke with the woman on the suicide hotline, Rosie and her boyfriend Casey set out to prove that the woman did not commit suicide but was murdered instead. In “Haunt Flashes” we meet Arden, a young woman who moves into an apartment haunted by Carlo, a ghost who had lived in the apartment years before and is still living there now as a ghost. Arden is determined to find out how to get Carlo to find peace and go “into the light”, the entrance to the hereafter. As you can see, I loved reading each book. As I am writing this review, I keep thinking of all the exciting parts that I have read. The reading went very fast and I am sure other readers would love to read the books as much as I did.
Received a free copy of this set through book funnel. I enjoyed all of the stories. A few I had already read as a single, but reread them and enjoyed them a second time.
Did not care for the relationships in this book. They seemed hateful to each other couldn’t finish the books
Izzy and Flo (Thelma and louise meet the golden girls) a class act with hilarious hijinks
Very enjoyable, loved the characters. Will definitely read more of the author’s works.
This was a good set of books, and for the price, you can’t beat it. I was entertained and amused throughout and am glad I stumbled across the set. A few of the characters could get a little annoying, you just want to say, “No! Don’t go in there!” Or “Don’t leave, you idiot!”. But it’s part of their charm and nosiness solves the mystery, right? All in all I really loved the stories.
I liked each book in the set.
A light-hearted read that mixes humor and mystery. Senior sleuth Izzy and her friend Flo stumble their way through murder and mayhem in way sure to entertain you.
Thoroughly enjoyed from beginning to end.
The characters are down to earth. Plot good.
Fun and easy to read
Very good books. I love Izzy and Flo. These books would make a wonderful TV series!
enjoyed but found some what predictable.
Fun stories to read. A few surprises about who the culprits are.
Proofreading needs work.
Characters I wanted to care about but couldn’t quite manage to make the connection
Great fun. Was very glad it was a series so I could continue reading about Izzys adventures.
Simple fun read. Especially readers of similar age as characters
Fun! Enjoyed the characters
