The car fire didn’t kill Navajo Tribal Policeman Delbert Nez—a bullet did. And the old man in possession of the murder weapon is a whiskey-soaked shaman named Ashie Pinto. Officer Jim Chee is devastated by the slaying of his good friend Del, and confounded by the prime suspect’s refusal to utter a single word of confession or denial.Lieutenant Joe Leaphorn believes there is much more to this … this outrage than what appears on the surface, as he and Jim Chee set out to unravel a complex weave of greed and death that involves a historical find and a lost fortune. But the hungry and mythical trickster Coyote is waiting, as always, in the shadows to add a strange and deadly new twist.

Tony depicts a part of our country most of us don’t ever see and a people that have a set of traditions we all should follow but at the same time produces a police procedural that is captivating and a real page turner.
Again, Hillerman uses just as many words as it takes to tell a riveting story. Read multiple times and always learn something more about human nature and motivation.
Love Tony Hillerman. He is a master at writing about the Navajo and Hopi nations and their people.
Tony Hillerman has always been an author that I eagerly anticipated any release in this series. Since his passing, I read again many of my favorites. Coyote Waits is one of those. The writing paints a visual picture and draws you into the pace of the Navajo Nation. Highly recommend.
I like his writing and the information on Native Americans, good characters.
Another great Tony Hillerman book. I have read most of his work and have enjoyed it all
Hillerman’s Navajo police officers are people I would be delighted to meet. Until I read his books (and I am grateful that there are so many) I had no idea of the profound beauty of the Navajo way.
Good One… ’nuff said.
Fascinating depiction of southwestern Native American culture, conflicts and life challenges for the First People.
Love Hillerman, every Hillerman.
I love sheriff lightfoot
Enjoyed it. I am fond of stories about the west and Indian police detectives are a nice twist. Glad his daughter is continuing the series.
One of the best of the series. The usual great mix of Indian lore and crime solving.
Holler man never fails to deliver good characters, a good plot and a glimpse into Native American culture. A good read.
Enjoy all tony hillerman.
I didn’t finish it
Wonderful combination of an interesting, unpredictable plot and rich characters. Hillerman is in my top five.
