What an interesting read!
Lacey works at a nudist resort. A resort that just had a fire and Lacey was accused of arson in the past…Cole is one of the fire fighters called in to put out the fire at Poker Flats nudist resort. He’s also Lacey’s former boyfriend but broke up with her when she was accused of arson. Old and new sparks fly between them!
What a fascinating location for a romance! Cowboy’s Match has a little bit of everything. Romance and sexual tension is strong between Cole and Lacey. So is the lack of trust and wounds of the past. You’re rooting for them to overcome their obstacles and reignite their relationship! What makes this story even more interesting is the mystery of who set the fire. I enjoyed the twists the story line offered until the real culprit is revealed! In addition, I appreciated the side story with the rescue horses. It made the book all the more heartwarming!
Cowboy’s Match is the second book in Lexi Post’s Poker Flat series and it is a fun, engaging romance with drama, suspense, emotional turmoil, and second chances.
Lacey Winters is the current office manager and Kendra’s right-hand person at the Poker Flat nudist resort. She loves her job, the resort, and the feeling of belonging after so many years of feeling lost after being devastated by betrayal from the one man she has loved. Though she is accepted for who she is now, she still sometimes dreams of the life she could have had if the one man she needed to stand by her side had not looked at her with contempt and accusation causing her to flee her old life. But with this job, she has wonderful friends, can be who she is and can leave her past there…in the past, until a dangerous fire on the resort brings back the awful memories, heartache, suspicion, and the one man that she never wanted to see again.
Cole Hatcher owns a ranch – The Last Chance Ranch, where he saves abused and neglected horses and rehabs them, then finds them a forever home. This endeavor of his is deeply fulfilling and rewarding but it is extremely costly. This is where his part-time firefighting job comes in handy. On a dispatch call one night he and his team respond to a structural fire at the newly opened nudist resort and while trying to extinguish the flames and do crowd control, the one person he never thought to see again waltzes up to him and offers drinks and snacks for his crew. He cannot believe his eyes when they land on Lacey Winters, the only woman he has ever loved and walked away from and seeing her standing front and center at another fire (similar to the one from their past) brings old memories and feelings rushing back along with ripping open old wounds.
Rekindled passion ignites for Lacey and Cole despite their confusing past and current situation and more complications arise when the fire inspector lists the structural fire as arson and fingers point towards Lacey. Determined to get it right this time, Cole dives into their past and the present to investigate and prove her innocence. However, will what he finds end up being helping, exonerating Lacey, or cause more trouble for them as they try for a second chance.
Even though this is a cowboy romance, it still had a thrilling little who-done-it tossed in the mix. I enjoyed all the character interaction and investigating side as Cole works to connect the dots of the arsons (past and present). The story itself was engaging and the characters likable and fun. One tiny hiccup for me was the way Cole treated Lacey concerning the arson. Even though he redeemed himself in the end, it put me off him for total hero status a bit. However, they did make a good couple and I was glad to see everything work out as it should the second time around.
