Although this is the 3rd book in the series, I read it as a stand alone, since it is the only one that my public library purchased. I read it in one rainy day, as it was hard to put down. Interesting characters and an intriguing, well written story. Following a bad marriage, Sheriff Flint Cahill has found a woman who he would like to spend the rest of his life with. However, his ex, Celeste, who is half crazy, won’t leave him alone, despite the fact that she cheated on him, and has been threatening his new girl friend, Maggie Thompson. Maggie agrees to move in with him, and then disappears from his house in the midst of her move. Did Celeste grab her with the help of an accomplice, or was it an old boyfriend? And is the kidnapping related to the disappearance of another woman from Gilt Edge not long ago? Lots of twist.
Good story, but why would a sheriff leave his back door unlocked? Also some poor editing, when sections in Chapters are not separated by white space (or whatever it is called that separates within a Chapter.)
Loved like book had it read in two days just didn’t want to put it down. Love all of BJ Daniels books they keep you wanting to know what’s going to happen in the next book.
Loved it! Read it in one evening! The whole series is great !
B.J. Daniels one of my favorite author. Love her cowboys!
I won a copy of this book from the author, I was not required to give a favorable review. This is the 3rd book in the series and this one has to do with Sheriff Flint Cahill, mister follow all the rules. But this time, his girlfriend needs him, his ex-wife is causing problems again and past for 2 women from his town are coming into the investigation. He never looses his temper but when his ex-wife may be involved in his girlfriend’s disappearance he losses it. But there is so much going on with kidnapping of her, finding information about a woman who walked away months earlier, his sister & sister-in-law in the middle of their pregnancies and now a ransom and him being put on leave with pay. But Harp is still sorta being a dumb deputy with his own personal problems.
Love B J Daniels books

Enjoyed realistic
Good as always
All of B.J. Daniels books are wonderful.
Great characters and action packed, often wondering who was behind the incidents.
A very good “who dun it” page turner with a lot of emotion.
I have enjoyed all the books I have read by this author
I thought this book was okay. I guess I got used to reading books with the hot, steamy love scenes. I live threw the books I read and this one was all over the place to me and not enough on Flint and Maggie. Not enough of them together. I was sadly disappointed with this book. Try some steamy, hot love scenes that might spice it up more.
good, entertaining story well written.
I enjoyed reading it
Favorite Quotes:
She repeated the woman’s words verbatim. It was a gift from when she’d been the worst gossip in the county. She never got what she’d heard wrong
She’s the kind of woman who would eat her young.
My Review:
Two women had disappeared from a small rural community with one overlapping similarity recounted by witnesses. Many chapters later we discover many more overlapping issues for these two well-constructed mysteries that had confounded the authorities and crossed three state lines. I was confounded by the knowledge that this talented author has written thirteen different series for a total of two-hundred-thirty books, and this is just my second time to stumble upon one of her intriguing tales. For shame, I have been remiss. Ms. Daniels is a gifted storyteller and weaves an engaging and entertaining tale with suspense, humor, quirky yet knowable characters, and colorfully described and vividly detailed visuals. The story was well-crafted and deviously plotted with twists and turns and blind alleys to keep us hapless readers on our toes as well as humble. I will certainly be humbly watching her listings from now on.
