A Cowboys Don’t StoryCowboy Danny Boone-a name he made up one drunken night and has regretted ever since-harbors a big past and yearns for a small future. A short, bright career as a champion bull rider almost ended in his death when his homophobic father discovered Danny was gay. Now Danny longs for a plot of land he can build a ranch on, enough money to make up for some of the education he … up for some of the education he missed… and, secretly, a beautiful femme who likes to top-a combo rarer than a unicorn.
Then onto the guest ranch where Danny works drives San Francisco decorator Laurie Belmont, a young man so gorgeous he makes the horses gasp, and so ballsy he almost kills Danny’s attacker. Laurie’s trying to find his way out from under the thumb of a domineering mother, helpless father, and rich, privileged boyfriend. But no matter the attraction, their lives are worlds apart, and cowboys don’t ride unicorns.

I enjoyed a lot this second book on the series, featuring Danny’s story, and especially all the twist and turns on the plot. The pace of the relationship and how Laurie stood up for his happiness were some of the best parts of the story. This book is even better than book 1. Wonderful reading!
Living with some of his pain of the past; his made up cowboy name, his father finding out he was gay, and recovering form the injury that almost ended his career, Danny is trying to come to terms with what he needs.
First he wishes to have his own ranch, finish his education and a rare unicorn. His secret desires for a partner are so different – a femme who tops – he thinks its more like a mythical creature than a reality.
Good things come to those who wait…
Laurie Belmont is the unicorn Danny is looking for. They meet and the connection is instantaneous. Laure has some rare baggage of his own; less than stellar parents and an overbearing, wealthy boyfriend.
It was refreshing to see these to two come together and defy all the typical partner matches. A wonderful ideal and execution of opposite attraction becoming one.
**I received this ARC via Gay Romance Reviews for my honest feedback.**
Every year about this time it seems, I run into one book that I know will become one I will re-read often because of the characters and the way the author handles the plot. This one is it for me this year. Danny and Laurie are just so perfect together and the set up with their families gives me characters to hiss at. I am seriously in love with this series which is approaching cowboy m/m romance with some very interesting twists.
Nothing is obvious in this story! I love how the author defied stereotypes in creating the MCs and how well the approach was executed!
A great cowboy story with bull riding, opposites attract vibes and heat!
The book is second in a series but stands alone well.
Danny works on a ranch. He is saving money for his own land. Laurie visits the ranch. Laurie is femme and in a relationship. Danny is smitten. They both have issues to work thru. I love this troupe!! Everything about this story was sooo good! I am voluntarily leaving a review from an advanced copy that I received. My reviews are solely based on my thoughts and opinions.
Tara Lain is a new to me author. I’ll be honest and say I wasn’t sure about this story in the beginning. I love reading books with femme characters and this has one who tops, which made it even better, so I had to give it a try. I wasn’t disappointed. Laurie is a little out of place at the dude ranch he visits on vacation with his rich, snobby boyfriend Grove. He definitely knows how to ride a horse though. He catches the eye of ranch hand Danny. There is a lot of stereotyping in the storyline…cowboys don’t bottom, femme guys don’t top, beautiful men like Laurie shouldn’t be with.cowboys like Danny. I really enjoyed following along as the characters broke each stereotype. There was some homophobia which I never like I’m stories but I understand why it was needed. It was a good story; however, I don’t think I’ll be reading the rest of the series
