When life is on the line you learn to live…and never miss a dance.Dr. CC Peladora never expected to ask a stranger to father her child, but neither did she think she’d be diagnosed with a chronic disease. With a failed marriage and a busy career, love is the last thing on her priority list, but she wants more than anything to experience motherhood before it’s too late. When she hears through the … through the grapevine that Adam Colt, the sexy, mysterious son of Buzz Colt, must marry to meet the stipulations of his father’s will, she sees an opportunity that won’t come along again. And living like there’s no tomorrow, this is her time to get what she wants…
Adam just happened to be sitting on a bar stool in a local honky tonk when the spunky woman he’s been fantasizing about for months walks in and turns his world upside down. She offers to give him what he needs, an arranged marriage, for something she wants desperately. A child. No doubt he wants to kiss her, but marry her? And give her a child and then disappear from Tarnation forever? His father’s stained blood might run through Adam’s veins, but a real cowboy would never leave his kin. But in his journey to prove that he’s nothing like Buzz, he finds more than he ever bargained for…and a forgiveness he never expected would come.
A secret marriage. Vulnerable hearts. Off-the-charts chemistry and small-town romance will have CC and Adam proving that a spirited vet and an alpha cowboy can find love in the most unlikely places.

Always always enjoy revisiting Tarnation, and cannot believe that this is book #4 in the series! I’m so excited for everything to come together, but I don’t even want to think about it all ending just yet.
Adam has had his eyes on CC for a while now, but nothing shocks him more than when she comes into the bar one night and asks him for a BABY. This is the ideal situation for Adam but also one of the worst. Because he still isn’t sure he can call Tarnation home.
I loved CC for knowing what she wants in life and not being afraid to go after it. However, she does need someone like Adam to show her something strong and steady.
These two complimented one another perfectly and I loved the book from start to finish. The book was well written and full of life lessons in unexpected places.
Cannot wait for the next brother to find his match!
Cowboy State of Mind is the 4th book in the Tarnation, Texas series. Adam and C.C.’s story is off the charts, super romantic!! Yes he needs to get married and yes she wants a baby. But neither one counted on feelings getting in the way and falling in love.
I never hesitate to read Rhonda’s books and this one is right up there at the top. I absolutely loved it.
One brother left to go, Brennan. Can’t wait to see what’s in store for him.
Another great read from this author. I absolutely love this series, I highly recommend that you start from the beginning before reading this book.
CC is the local divorced vet of Tarnation and she is also dealing with a chronic illness. Adam has to get married within 6 months or lose out on his ranch.
I really loved how bold and determined CC was, a lot of times in books the females are made out to be wilting flowers and that definitely was not the case with this book.
I love it. You cant go wrong with anything Rhonda writes and CC and Adam are no different.
I received copy of this book through Prolific Works and I chose to review it. I am a big fan of Rhonda Lee Carver. I know when I see her name on a book it will be a great story. This one hits the mark. This is the fourth book in this series and I loved it. It is worth your time and effort. I encourage everyone to get this one. I don’t do spoilers so get thebook and see how great it is.
Two stubborn independent people make for a rough road to happily ever after. CC makes Adam a proposition that will benefit them both. But in the process some things happen that makes them question what they are both feeling. Can Adam find forgiveness in order to leave room in his heart for CC. Will CC put her walls down and finally let Adam in.
When life is on the line we learn to live
Here we are again with book #4 Cowboy State of Mind in the Tarnation, Texas series. I can’t say enough about how much I love this series. I was so excited when this book came out because you get some more pieces to the story about these brothers and their 6-month stipulations, and I can’t wait until the whole thing comes together, but then sadly the series is over. Anyway, let’s not worry about that and focus on this fantastic book!
CC has been busy with her career and she is battling her chronic disease and she’s decided that before things go to far, its time to add some more excitement to her life…. a baby. Now, she just needs to find a man to be daddy to her baby. What better than to head to the bar to find that man. Adam Colt is sitting at the bar and never expected what was coming. CC, the woman he has fantasized about askes him to be the man to father her baby. CC knows he is on limited time for his stipulation so she is willing to help him out if he can help her…. its and easy win, win…right?! You need to get this book and read what happens to these two, you will not be disappointed!!
In the next book in this series, we get Adam and CC. I think this is my favorite book so far and I adore CC. She’s strong and she knows what she wants. She tells Adam she’ll marry him if he’ll give her the baby she longs for, but she doesn’t count on emotions and feelings getting in the way. A beautiful love story that will keep you turning the pages. I loved it!
I love this book. Great characters. Suspense and easy to read. Romance and some twists and turns. Read to see what happens between Adam and CC ? See if Adam accepts Cc proposal.
Cowboy State of Mind
Rhonda Carver
What a beginning! When starts with a story grabber, It starts with a story grabber! You know you have to keep reading to find out what in the world CC is up to and if Adam is going to oblige her.
The story flows and keeps a steady pace of secrets that keeps you wanting not to put it down.
Will CC and Adam be able to help the Colt brothers keep their inheritance? Misunderstandings seem to keep happening that might hinder it from following the stipulations in the will. Everything is balanced to keep the reader wanting to keep reading to find out.
this is another WOW book as the series continues – and the start is fantastic, it will grab you – so hold on for the wild ride CC and Adam take to their final HEA!
This one was much stronger than the two previous ones, I thought. More like the first one. Compelling characters and an engaging premise.
This is book 4 in the 5 story series that you won’t be able to put down. When life gives the Colt brothers some hurdles they decide as a group to tackle them together even if that means having to find women to marry in Tarnation, Texas within 6 months. Adam Colt is head strong and lets his anger against his father’s will stipulations to take his time finding a wife. CC Peladora is the local vet and does a lot of work on the Grinning Spurs ranch. Can two headstrong people used to doing things alone learn to love? Another wonderful Tarnation Texas read!
“Cowboy State of Mind” (Tarnation, Texas Book 4) by Rhonda Lee Carver is a terrific read. I loved Adam and CC’s story. This is a wonderful addition to this series. This story is packed with romance, passion, humor, hot cowboys, family, small-town life, entertaining characters, and more. I can’t wait to see what happens next with the Colt brothers. Highly recommend to all fans of romance, cowboys, family, and series.
CC and Adam a match made in a child. She has a chronic disease and he want his inheritance. The ups and downs of this story are great. Read it as an ARC and loved it.
That’s one ballsy woman!!
I had so many feeling for CC, I don’t even know how to explain it. First I felt really bad for her. She has this chronic disease that is forcing her to make certain decisions a little sooner than maybe she would have liked. But I also loved that she wasn’t going to let it get her down. She was going to have everything she wanted and desired, just a little quicker than maybe she originally wanted. Now if she could only get a certain cowboy to agree with her.
I really liked Adam in this book. He just seemed like a genuine good guy. Can you imagine being him and having this woman who he has secretly been lusting after come up to him and asking for his sperm?? How would you have reacted??
I liked that even though Adam didn’t know all the details he really wanted to get to know CC. He already thought she was a great vet and admired not only her beauty but her brains also.
“Cowboy State of Mind” is the fourth book in the Tarnation, Texas series, and it is the story of Adam Colt and Dr. CC Peladora. CC is not looking for love, been there tried that and doesn’t have time for it.
What CC does want is a baby, and since she has a chronic disease she wants to have that baby sooner rather than later. Adam has had his eye on CC for a while now but he never expects her to marry him, even though he needs a wife, no, he has to have a wife. So with stipulations set and a secret marriage, the two decide to give it a go.
I love this series and the Colt brothers are falling like dominoes, none of them wanted a wife but the ones that have found love are really happy that they did. Will it be the same for this alpha cowboy and the hard working, independent vet, you will have to read it to find out.
I am ready for the next book in this series, it keeps getting better!!
I just finished reading Cowboy State of Mind, the fourth book in the saga of the Colt brothers and their trying to fulfill the crazy requirements of their late father’s will. I am really enjoying this whole series and this book is no different. Adam Colt is a quieter, more reflective son who has a special way with animals. Although some of the other brothers have made advances toward her, the local vet, CC has ignored them. She has a special way about her that attracts Adam unlike other girls he knows. But CC wants a child, now. A marriage of convenience may work out for both of them. You can guess how that all goes with a few twists and turns along the way… Very well written and interesting. Well worth the read!
I am so happy to see CC as a main character love interest. If you have enjoyed the other Tarnation, TX books, you probably were like me and couldn’t wait to see who would steal CC’s heart. If this is your first Tarnation book, don’t worry – you will love it here.
If you are looking for an author who writes cowboys well, you have landed in the right place. Small towns can be difficult to paint a realistic picture for a reader. Rhonda Lee Carver does not have that issue. Honestly, I can’t find an issue one that would discourage my recommendation of this book. Go forth and click, my friend!
CC hasn’t always had the best luck with men. CC married young, only to find out her husband was cheating on her with his college students. CC divorced him vowing to never give her heart to a man again! But CC’s desire to have a child prompts her to do something she never thought she’d do….ask Adam Colt to make a baby! With her recently diagnosed kidney disease and increasing age going against her, she needs to act fast! CC knows Adam needs to marry within 6 months in order to fulfill the stipulations of his father’s will, so she offers him a solution.
Adam Colt has always felt a connection to CC, but has never acted on it. When CC approaches him at the bar asking for his assistance in making a baby, he’s shocked. While he knows an arranged marriage would solve both of their problems, something doesn’t feel right. But CC’s persistence and flirting finally pays off! Their marriage doesn’t go smoothly though. When CC overhears part of a conversation Adam is having, her feelings are hurt and she runs…
CC and Adam’s chemistry is off the charts! While this story is a stand-alone, I highly recommend reading this series in order. I haven’t read the whole series and was a little lost as I did not know what Buzz’s will required of each son. Other than that, the story was entertaining and enjoyable. I read a gifted copy and all opinions stated are my own.
