What a great read! I laughed through out this book, the characters, the situations…great humor! Rose has come to help her great aunt out by filling in for her while she’s on vacation, how hard could it be to work a gift shop in a B & B? She wasn’t expecting to see her childhood crush walk in look like the unbelievably sexy cowboy he’d grown into. Hud was happy to see Rose again, the first scene may not be the impression he wanted to make by being clumsy rather than the swaggering cowboy. Rose is at a crossroads in her life, does she reenlist, go home to Kentucky or find a new life in Texas? Hud’s big heart is making her decision all that harder, not that the sexy cowboy wasn’t hard enough to resist. Mishaps, good times, eccentric great aunts, life saving hero and so much more make this a greatly entertaining read!
I loved this terrific small-town romance!
Hud and Rose knew each other briefly as young teens, but even then their instant connection left behind a deep longing and the roots of true love. Now that Rose is back in town helping her aunt run the B&B, Hud is determined to make the most of his second chance at love.
Hud is not just a book-boyfriend hero; he’s a true hero in every sense of the word. A man of honor, he lives by the code taught to him by his grandfather. This code should be etched in stone and taught to everyone everywhere.
Rose is a wonderfully strong character, a woman who knows her own mind and longs for a place that she can truly call home.
This book has all the feels, terrific humor, heartfelt family connections, and enough small and large disasters to keep the story exciting. Aunt Luna is a truly unique and special character, and she really brings a lot of spice to the story.
I enjoyed every bit of this soulful, small-town romance, and it’s a book I can highly recommend. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.
**This review may contain possible spoilers**
The opening scene with Hudson (Hud) maneuvering among all the fragile delicate items on display in the gift shop he has entered to find a suitable birthday gift for his sister while tangling with a container set out to catch water from a leak in the ceiling of the shop is absolute romantic comedy gold!! From that point on I was hooked on this book and just had to keep reading!
Cactus Rose (Rose) is managing the gift shop/B&B for her Great-Aunt Molly while Molly is on vacation and Rose is deciding whether to reenlist in the military.
Rose and Hud had had a sweet connection one year when they were both in middle school. Rose was allowed to attend the public school system that year when her parents had taken a year away from the commune they previously been living in. Even though Hud and Rose had only known each other during that one school year as children, they subconsciously carried that memory with them and now they are meeting again as adults.
The rest is a wonderfully written humorous love story with one disaster happening after another! These were usually at the hands of Great-Aunt Luna, (who had shown up at the B&B after a spat with her common-law husband) and her Madame Derringer that she carried with her everywhere! I thought Aunt Luna was a hoot, especially an episode involving a bottle of wine, Jack Daniels, a late-night, that turned into an overnight, wake (the inspiration of Aunt Luna) at an outside makeshift grave for a B&B guest that had unexpectedly passed away the day before he had been scheduled to arrive!!
Kudos to the author for such originality and allowing us to peek into her fabulous imagination!

Another fun addition to the Longhorn Canyon series. I enjoyed this lighthearted second chance romance with a rekindled friends to lovers theme. The storyline was enjoyable, the characters were likable and down to earth, and the setting pleasant and homey. There were a few sections that seemed to drag a little and I would have liked to learn more of Rose’s background (it was just brushed over but it seemed like it would have been really interesting to expand on), but the overall story was easy flowing and delightful.
*I received an ARC from the publisher, via NetGalley, and I am voluntarily providing my honest review.
Rose O’Malley was surprised to see Hudson Baker step through the door of the gift shop in her Great Aunt Molly’s Bread & Breakfast even though she knew she would run into him sometime while she was visiting. Rose is minding the shop while Molly is off on an extended vacation. For Rose it seemed like a good thing to do while on leave from the army. This gives her a chance to tink about whether she should reenlist or not. If she decides not to reenlist what will she do? She’s pretty sure she doesn’t want to go back to the commune to live with her parents. She loves her parents, really misses her mother, but she joined the army to escape the too-strict-for-her life in the commune in the first place. Now here she is in Bowie, Texas facing her first love, Hudson Baker. She fell for Hud years ago when she was a young teenager and allowed to attend a public school for a year. In the commune she was homeschooled. She never forgot Hud and here he is and the attraction to him is back and sparking like crazy. Does he feel the attraction too? His was her first kiss. Wonder what his lips on hers would feel like now.
Hudson Baker is co-owner of a local ranch with his brother Tag. He knew Rose was to be in town for a while but it took a couple drive-bys of her aunt’s B&B before he got up the courage to go in. What if she isn’t interested in getting reaquainted? What if she is married or engaged? Needing a birthday present for his sister is the perfect excuse to go in. Hud never forgot Rose even after all these years. Seeing her now confirmed his feelings for her. He still thought about her all the time. He just hopes he can convince Rose to stay here in Texas to explore a life with him.
Cowboy Courage by Carolyn Brown is the sixth book in her Longhorn Canyon series. This author sure can write a sexy cowboy who is also kind, thoughtful and loving. Yes, one who lives by the Cowboy Code. I’d sure like to meet a Carolyn Brown cowboy in person. Mz. Brown sure found the perfect match for Hud in Rose O’Malley. They just seem to be made for each other. When you add in all the other great characters in this story you have a super cast. Quirky Great Aunt Luna who shows up at the B&B after a fight with er longtime partner steals the show and makes for some fun, laughing-outloud scenes. I loved seeing the characters from the earlier books in the series again. Even the Fab Five, favorites of mine, appear to entertain the reader. This is a fun.very entertaining story. I jus love Carolyn Brown’s voice and it comes out loud and clear in this book. All You’all are gonna love this!
Reunited with your junior high crush!
Rose O’Malley was taking care of her great aunt’s bed and breakfast and gift shop while deciding if she wanted to stay in the military for another tour or do something else when she almost ran into Hudson Baker who she knew from junior high school at the gift shop owned by her great aunt while she was trying to deal with a plumbing leak.
Cowboy Courage isn’t a book about reunited lovers because Rose and Hudson hadn’t even gotten past the crush stage in the year that they went to school together but they never had forgotten each other because when they met again there was still sparks. The sparks between Rose and Hudson are helped with family and the neighbors in Bowie. I can picture a small town where everybody knows what you are doing even before it happened.
Cowboy Courage is the sixth book in the Longhorn Canyon Series but can be read as a standalone book.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book from NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

While Cowboy Courage is part of the Longhorn Canyon series, this is the first book in the series that I have read. I can confidently say that it can be read as a standalone without any issue.
Rose O’Malley has just returned from serving in the military and she’s trying to determine if she’s going to reenlist or start down a different path in her life. She’s currently staying at her Aunt’s B&B, taking care of it while she’s on a trip of a lifetime.
Hudson Baker is a cowboy who also is a volunteer firefighter. He’s hard-working, loyal, and a cowboy through and through. Needing a birthday gift for his sister, he stops by the Rose Garden Gift Shop to browse and he gets the shock of his life when he sees Rose for the first time in years.
Rose and Hud had been sweethearts for a year in junior high before Rose’s family moved back to their commune. Neither Rose or Hud ever forgot the other, as they were so well matched, but them being in the same location again was not likely. Now that they have reconnected, will the chemistry still be there now that they are adults? And will Rose decide to reenlist or stay where her heart is starting to take root?
Rose’s Aunt Luna was one of the best things about this book. She was the perfect side character to bring some comic relief to the story. This was a tale about second chances and finding your own way in your own time and it was a journey I enjoyed.
I have to say that this book was ok. I felt like the book kind of dragged a lot more then I expected, However I loved Luna she was a freaking hoot. I felt like between her and Molly they really made the story and made you want to love all the characters and find out what was going to happen next with those two. I liked Rose and Hud but sometimes it just felt very awkward and the relationship almost seemed forced not natural. there is some adult situations and languages but over all the book was a ok read. Luna will defiantly keep you laughing for sure. I received an advance copy from the publisher via NetGalley. I was under no obligation to post a review and have given my honest opinion
I received an ARC of this book from NetGalley and the author for my honest review.
Cactus Rose O’Malley met Hud Baker when they were in middle school. They had their first kiss, then Rose’s parents took her back to their commune in Kentucky. It is fourteen years later and Rose has moved to the small Texas town that Hud has a ranch. Of course, they pick up where they left off (though in a more adult way). Throw in many disasters, a crazy Aunt Luna and you get a PG13 romance. This was an okay book, not great. The book was a bit corny and Aunt Luna was too over the top. Not a horrible book, but not great.
This is book 6 and a longhorn Canyon series
Nice cozy romance about
Girl Who grew up on a commune. She was allowed to go to school for 1 year where she met a boy that she fell in love with. Her father pulled her out of school again and back to the commune. when she was of age she left commune and joined service for 10 years. When she came back to town they met again fell in love all over again very well written fast read and enjoyable looking forward to reading more
This story of Rose and Hud is a second chance trope. The romance is fun and light with Brown’s light Southern humor mixed in. Lots of references to Country music and lyrics. There’s a slightly loony aunt that you’ll feel compassion for before the story ends. The relationship between Rose and Hud is cute, sometimes awkward and hilarious at the same time.
This wasn’t one of my favorites by Brown, but fun and enjoyable.
I was given a complimentary copy of this book via Netgalley. All thoughts are my own.
Why haven’t I read this amazing author before?
I’m officially a fan of Carolyn Brown.
She’s such a talented, witty, and masterful storyteller.
Hud and Rose were Junior High sweethearts, each other’s first love.
So can their Chance meeting after so many years, rekindle that heart-throbbing feeling, only a first love creates?
This was truly a spectacular book which brought back my own feelings of my young love to my very own Texas cowboy from my youth.
Aunt Luna was a hoot, she truly brought so much laughter, my sides still hurt from her antics.
Don’t miss this extraordinary journey between two sweethearts who were destined to be together.
I received an advanced copy of this book from the publisher.
This is my first book by this author – I own several, however I’ve never read any yet.
I found parts that could’ve been left out, but I truly loved Aunt Luna and her crazy antics. I have not read previous books in the series so I felt lost when they mentioned Hud and Rose running into each other again after several years apart.
Paul and a echo made me mad and I wanted to slap the crap out of Echo and show her that she was truly missing out on precious moments with her only child. Paul got everything he deserves when Luna moves to the compound.
Set in the back drop of the Ranch land of Texas Carolyn Brown gives us another amazing book filled with humor, love and family.
Hudson Baker was shocked when her realized that Cactus Rose O’Malley was back in town she had stolen his heart all the way back in Junior High School.
Rose was just as floored when she saw the handsome Cowboy Hud Baker after all of these years.
This story will pull at your heart strings and make make you laugh in book the best kind to read. Thank you again Carolyn for giving us magic.
The story of Rose O’Malley and Hud Baker is a second chance love story. They met in middle school and crushed on each other. He was from a respected ranching family and her family was more transient. Her family left and moved to a commune where she grew up. She later went into the Army. While on leave, Rose is now back in town taking care of her aunt’s B & B while Aunt Molly is traveling.
There Rose reconnects with Hud. A man who seems always to be rescuing those in need.
We get a chance to meet Rose’s aunt Luna who brings some comedy to the story as well as words of wisdom.
It’s a story about second chances, love and family. That said, maybe because I have not read the previous stories, I found it to be ok, but not memorable. More of a “month in the life “ of the characters .
I was entrusted a copy of this book by Netgalley and Forever. The opinions are solely my own.
