Looking for almost non-stop action and danger in a romantic suspense story? Cowboy Bodyguard would be an excellent choice for your next read! These characters are continually in harm’s way throughout the entire book!
Cowboy Bodyguard is part of a series. However, it can be read as a stand alone novel even though characters from the first two books do appear in this story. I really enjoyed getting to catch up with the main characters from book one to see what was going on in their lives.
I thought Jack was a great character. He exemplified a selfless type of love toward Shannon, who walked away from him before their marriage even began. I loved the way he worked to protect her, tried to share about God with her, and was always trying to think of what was best for her. Shannon was a character who frustrated me through much of the book. I liked the chemistry and attraction between these two characters, yet Shannon was so stubborn and had such a skewed view of reality. I did love the truly life changing growth she exhibited by the end of the story.
I’m looking forward to reading the next book in this series.
I received a complimentary copy of this book. All opinions are my own.
I absolutely love Dana Mentink’s books! They are so realistic! I know that there will be so much danger and action and most of all, character development. When I begin a book, I know that I wont be able to put it down. In this book, Dana tackles biker gangs. I’ve heard many times that these gangs are super ruthless and she definitely portrays that in her writing. She doesn’t hold back just because this is an inspirational book. That doesn’t mean that it’s graphic though. It just shows how they work and how they act. It’s scary!
I love the Thorn family. This is the 3rd book in the series about this family. It centers around Jack. We find out about a surprise regarding his relationship status! It has to do with Shannon, his high school sweetheart. She contacts Jack regarding a woman that’s in danger from the gang. Everything breaks loose from there and things go absolutely crazy and scary!
I felt very sorry for Jack. Almost through the whole book, Shannon treats Jack badly! I couldn’t believe that Jack kept thinking he was in love with her! Shannon was incredibly selfish and lacked compassion, especially for Jack’s family when they were bending over backwards to help her! They were putting themselves and their lives on the line for her but she didn’t seem to care. I almost always like the heroine but I wasn’t really a fan of Shannon….until the end! The author redeemed her and I was glad! I hope in subsequent books, we learn more about her —-and Jack!!!!
I received this book from the author but was under no obligation to give a review. These opinions are my own.
Having read the previous books in this series, I was eager to read Cowboy Bodyguard to spend time with Dana Mentink’s familiar characters and meet new protagonists, Jack and Shannon. The premise was intriguing, and the action started on the third page. A fast-paced read, the suspense rarely let up. Subplots and twists created depth to the story, and I kept turning pages to see how things would turn out. The book was obviously well-researched for the many facets of the story from being an ER physician intern to life on a horse ranch. The bad guys were believable and I felt the danger they presented to the characters. The cowboys were heroic without being cliché and can come to my rescue anytime! Highly recommended.
I received a copy of this book for free from CelebrateLit Publicity, and a positive review was not required. All opinions expressed are my own.
The newest Gold Country Cowboy series by Dana Mentink had my heart beating fast throughout the entire story! Between rival biker gangs and the potential threat of an all out turf war between them, it was constant knife edge tension. She seriously had me under my blankets, sucking my thumb & calling out for my mommy…lol! Wickedly scary stuff, but it’s this kind of suspense that keeps me coming back for more. I’ve enjoyed each installment in this series and getting to know the Thorn family more. Evie Thorn especially, she’ll engulf you in her love and feed you until you burst. It’s her way of diffusing a tense situation and looking out for those she cares for…she’s a mama bear you don’t want to mess with! I had no idea how Jack, Shannon, and little Annabell were going to outrun Cruiser and his biker gang. It seems they were cut off at every corner and Shannon’s life was threatened at every turn. There was no place to hide and I wondered who was the crooked crook who ratted on their whereabouts! And talking about hiding, what are they going to do about their marriage on paper only? I guess, you dear reader, will find out how all these things play out in the pages of this keep-you-up-all-night story! If you love suspense with a sprinkling of faith and a well deserved happily-ever-after, you’ll be in for a treat with this one. Dana Mentink is a must-read author for me! I can’t wait for younger brother Keegan’s story next, he’s been a bit of a mystery throughout the series.
The story starts with danger and continues throughout the story. Working in an emergency room can be dangerous as Shannon finds out. She knows the news she is about to deliver will not be pleasant but she is determined to not let the Scarlet Tide motorcycle group intimidate her. I felt so bad for the young woman Dina. It looks like she is being blamed for the accident.
I thought Dina was brave to escape from the Scarlet Tide with her baby. She must rely on Shannon to help her get to safety before they find her. When Shannon makes a plea to her estranged husband, I could just imagine his shock. Jack couldn’t believe the message on his phone. Just when he was getting use to the idea that a divorce was imminent, Shannon calls him for help. Shannon and Jack have their hands full when Dina bolts and leaves behind her baby. The intense drama is excellent as they figure out how to keep ahead of the Scarlet Tide. There is a funny line that I can’t overlook. When the leader of the group catches up with Shannon, she is with Jack a very tough and protective cowboy. The leader asks Jack, “So, who do you think you are? John Wayne? ” If ever there was a well known tough cowboy, it would have to be John Wayne. I had this image of him standing there staring the leader down with an attitude that would scare anyone. Jack sure fits that image as he addresses the leader. I think Shannon has found someone who she can depend on.
Jack and Shannon are in for a bumpy road as they try to out maneuver the biker club. There is a leak somewhere because they can’t seem to stay ahead of them. I really enjoyed the relationship between Jack and Shannon. Who gets so busy with their life, they forget to file divorce papers after seven years? There is definitely some trust issues and insecurity going on and I couldn’t get enough of their story. I liked the story line very much. I have been around Harley’s all my life and this story is something I was hoping an author would write about. The biker group does have a code of honor and I’m glad the author included that detail in the book. The story is good and portrays bikers in a realistic way.
This is one book that doesn’t stop with twists and danger until the very end. I knew there was a mole somewhere, but the author cleverly kept me guessing. There is one thing I
have to mention. As certain characters were traveling up to a remote rustic cabin, the woman is worried about snakes. The man tells her not to worry because it is springtime. I live in the country and believe me springtime is when you need to be very careful of snakes. They make their grand appearance in the spring with lots of little babies.
Maybe Shannon will realize she has thought of marriage wrong. Shannon needs a good talking to by someone. My goodness she has strung Jack along for way too long, but Jack believes in marriage so readers we will see what happens. I was a bit impatient with her at times and so hoped she would consider her marriage a covenant and not a contract.
Overall the book was good with a strong faith element which I appreciated. Readers prepare yourself for a bumpy and thrilling ride as two biker groups take on a small town of cowboys who honor God and protect their family. I think this is the best book the author has written. I highly recommend it.
I received a copy of this book from Celebrate Lit. The review is my own opinion.
Cowboy Bodyguard
Another exciting book in the series by Dana. Very interesting from start to finish. Shannon got herself involved in a dangerous situation trying to help out an very young mother. She ends up taking care of a young baby, even though she is a doctor it wasn’t easy at times. Jack is her estrange husband and after being apart seven years she enlisted his help. I felt like was watching a movie, very exciting action packed, and suspenseful. I could really see this book being a movie. Also deals with the issues of gangs which in everyday life you forget they still exist. I received an complementary copy of the book from Celebrate Lit. I was not required to write an positive review. This opinion is my own.
It was a great read.
My first introduction to this author’s books was through one of her “dog” books. While the light-hearted, humorous, and romantic books in that series are quite enjoyable, I love Mentink’s Love Inspired Suspense novels even more. Cowboy Bodyguard is one of those page-turners I hate to put down and has a plot that never slows down from the very first page until the end.
I loved the characters, particularly Jack. If ever there was a dream man, he would fit the bill – first of all he is a cowboy!, he is strong, and loyal, and loving, he is great with babies, and he seems to be indestructible. I mean, what more could a gal ask? By comparison, Shannon seems a bit lacking but as the heat increases, she comes through big time. If only there weren’t that matter of a pending divorce that is mentioned frequently. Of course as all readers of Love Inspired Suspense know, everything will work out in the end but it really helps that the road to happily-ever-after is paved with plenty of action, danger, and suspense to keep readers like me happy.
Be sure to pick up your own copy of Cowboy Bodyguard as well as the first two books in the Gold Country Cowboys series that feature Jack’s brothers. Those Thorn boys can sure find themselves in a pack of trouble!
this is a wonderful story, she is a doctor and he is a cowboy, she does not think she can be a doctor and stay married to him. then rival bike gangs come to town to steal a baby. you keep reading because you can not put the book down. very good
Dana Mentink’s third book in her Gold Country Cowboys series, Cowboy Bodyguard, is another winner.
This time Jack Thorn and the rest of the Thorn family are embroiled in protecting Jack’s estranged wife, Shannon, and an infant she is caring for from being kidnapped by members of two rival motorcycle gangs—the Tide and the Aces.
The town of Gold Bar becomes the battleground for the war between the Thorns, the Tide, and the Aces. Jack and Shannon battle their personal war at the same time.
Cowboy Bodyguard draws the reader deeper into the Gold Country Cowboy series, allowing us to become more enamored with the strong cowboys that make up the Thorn family. The fourth book in the series will be published before the end of the year, and I can’t wait to read it. But, at the same time, it will be sad because the series will come to an end. The members of the Thorn family have become like friends.
Do yourself a favor and read Cowboy Christmas Guardian and Treacherous Trails, if you haven’t already, so you can get the whole picture of the Thorn family.
I received a copy of Cowboy Bodyguard for review purposes in exchange for my honest review, which I have done.
Cowboy Bodyguard is the third book in the Gold Country Cowboys series. Shannon Livingston is serving her internship at Mercy Hospital in Los Angeles. She befriends a young mother, who is being threatened by a biker gang. But, to be able to protect them she’ll need help so she calls on the only man that she trusts. The man she married in secret seven years ago, Jack Thorn. Together they will protect the baby while the mom looks for her brother. Protecting the baby is one thing but will Jack be able to protect his heart from being broken all over again? The story has lots of action. But the best part was how Ms. Mentink wove the spiritual content into the story without being over bearing. It took awhile for Shannon to understand God’s love, but she eventually got there. I loved how the family all rallied around and was willing to do whatever they had to, to protect one of their own. Another great story from Dana Mentink.
I received this book from the author in exchange for my honest review.
I just can’t get enough of this Thorn family! Throw in a secret marriage and a baby, and there was no way I was going to miss the latest installment in Dana Mentink’s Gold Country Cowboys series.
With a group of bikers intent on finding a woman and baby that “belong” to them, Shannon Livingston has nowhere to turn. Nowhere, that is, except her husband—a man she has had little contact within the past seven years.
A plethora of high-stakes situations keep this story speeding by, and then there’s Jack Thorn with little Annabelle. Swoon. Who can resist and strapping cowboy falling in love with a baby girl?
In the midst of it all, Shannon must face her past hurts before she can embrace a future she’s spent years trying to convince herself she doesn’t want. But spending time with the Thorns, her mother and uncle, and little Annabelle causes her to face the truth.
Through this series, Mentink (who was a new-to-me author) has become a must-read one for me with her focus on a family that fights evil and danger together. And with one Thorn brother left unattached, I’m looking forward what’s in store for the youngest Thorn.

Cowboy Bodyguard is the third book in the Gold Country Cowboys series. I have been looking forward to this story because it centers around Jack Thorn, the brother I have been interested in getting to know better. Ms. Mentink has outdone herself this time in the action category. When you have two rival gangs and throw some cowboys in the mix, you are destined for a roller coaster ride of a story. When you add in a secret marriage, a mother on the run, a baby that needs protection, being in suspense of who the mole is that is providing information, you have the formula for a fantastic novel. Oh and in true Dana Mentink style, you have to have the right amount of romance to go with the action and suspense.
Although this can definitely be read as a standalone, I would highly recommend treating yourself by reading the others in the series first because readers will get updates on the Thorn brother featured in each of the first two books.
I am looking forward to Keegan’s story this fall in Lost Christmas Memories.
I was given a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.
Cowboys, gangs, a doctor, a fearful mother, and a baby are just the mere beginnings of this story. This is a page-turning suspense you don’t want to miss!
Caught up in a life she never expected to be in, Dina, has found herself in an abusive relationship with a gang member and can’t seem to get out, and to make matters worse, she had a baby with with him. Fearing for her life, she ends up finding help in a doctor, Shannon, to help protect her baby, as she tries to locate her estranged brother, whom she is hoping will help her. Only word gets out that Dina is on the run and that Shannon has helped her and has her baby. The gangs, the Aces and the Tides are out for blood and they will stop at nothing. Forced to lean on her estranged husband, Jack, Shannon asks him for help to protect the baby and Dina, only they haven’t seen each other since they were married 7 years ago. Jack, always the loyal cowboy, agrees to help, never imagining what will lie ahead for the 4 of them, but knowing he will do anything to protect his wife. Will they be able to escape the gangs that both want them all dead?
The author had me turning page after page as the twist and turns never stopped until the very end. I gave this book 5 stars and look forward to reading the next book in the Gold Country Cowboy’s series.
This book was a real page-turner with a lot of action and suspense. I really liked Jack and Shannon and thought it was great that they had to pretend that their paper marriage was real. One thing I liked was that Jack showed Shannon that she didn’t continually have to prove herself, that she was worthy of love the way she was. I liked the way things turned out with Dina, also. This was a great book and I would recommend it.
I received a copy of this book from the author and was not obligated to write a positive review.
“Now that blood had been spilled, he understood it wouldn’t end until one of them was on the ground.”
Dana Mentink’s series about the Gold Country Cowboys is quite good and this one just may be her best suspense novel yet! I loved every minute. The action never lets up, except for very brief periods. She tells a quite compelling tale and one that her loyal readers are sure to enjoy. And anyone who has never read her books.
Jack Thorn gets a surprise call from Shannon Livingston, the wife he married 7 years ago and hasn’t seen since. She is trying to help a woman accused of trying to kill a member of a biker gang and taking their baby with her. Shannon needs Jack’s help. Of course, Jack is always ready to help her because his heart is still engaged.
This book is great.Don’t miss it!
Dana Mentink always gives you your money’s worth of adventure, suspense, cuteness (babies & animals) and will keep you turning pages. Her characters are always likable (sometimes the bad guys even have a few redeeming qualities).
Jack is all cowboy and you can imagine his shock when he gets a phone call from his wife (married in secret and no contact for years) asking for his help. Shannon is doing her internship in a hospital and tries to help a teen mother and her baby get away from a biker gang. They end up where rival gangs are in the same area – both have something to do with the young mother. Want details, you will have to buy the book and see what all the commotion is about. Plenty of action to keep you up reading.
I received this book as an ARC (advance reader’s copy) from the author. No expectations on my review and all opinions are definitely my own. I was a fan of Dana’s before I became a member of her review team. She’s never disappointed me in any of her books and I highly recommend not only Cowboy Bodyguard but any of her books. Fantastic author.
