From USA Today Bestselling Author Ella James, A Standalone Forbidden Romance with a throw-your-Kindle twist…
Homer Carnegie. Admit it–you know my name. Your kid’s got my e-trading card. Your husband sits up straighter when I stroll onto the TV screen. He knows I’m going to crack the bat and save the day. Even your grandma’s jonesing for my autograph. But women my age? They’re the worst. Or … women my age? They’re the worst. Or would that be the best?
It’s not my fault they line up at the door. They catch my balls all right, two at a time sometimes. Believe me, everybody wins.
At least they did–until the video. I heard TMZ paid a million for a bird’s eye view of Homer on his A-game. The only folks who didn’t watch with eager eyes? Red Sox management. They want me benched, or worse, shipped off to rehab.
It’s a long story, what happens next. How I end up on a boat, bound for the world’s most remote island: Tristan da Cunha. Just a speck of dust in the Atlantic.
Except my heart is there.
I don’t know that when I step onto the boat.
I don’t know a lot of things.
What I’ll covet…
What I’ll lose…
It’s heartwarming story with heartbreaking and suspenseful moments. You will be sucked in from the beginning as it takes you through an emotional journey. I enjoyed the storyline, the banter between the characters. The story was engaging and thrilling.
Ella James broke me down into pieces with Covet. Then very slowly did the pieces come back together. I was holding my breath page by page. I could barely grasp what was happening in the moment and expect what would come next. I was mesmerized with the characters and their feelings slowly became my feelings. I felt the cut and bled with them. Ladies and gents….you will not come out unscathed when you finish this book! I finally caught my breath and I finished this book last night!
There are so many emotions that you will go through. “All The Feels” will never describe what I went through with this story. Declan will have you falling….into the dark. You will feel when he hurts and when he craves. Finley confused me for awhile. How can someone so strong seem so weak? But you get to part two… and folks you will be WOWED! I take back my initial thoughts of our beloved heroine.
I know we waited a long time for Covet. But the author did this story right! She poured her everything into this book and for that I am forever grateful. I strongly recommend Covet! Believe me when I say you will not realize you were holding your breath.
4 Cranky Stars
Finley lives a very secluded life on an island called Tristan. She wears many hats and is quite loved. Sadly, her life had a tragedy that rocked her to her very core. Having lost both parents and living with her grandma for some time she is well and truly alone. She is trapped on this island since having a fear of boats and no planes can land on it. She grew up with stories of Charles Carnegie and his son Declan. When Declan comes to visit the island for the Carnegie Foundation she is enamored. She knows she shouldn’t be since her life is complicated and his life isn’t on this island. When they find themselves trapped in a burrow for a few days after tending to some sheep they become closer and start to slowly tell each other their secrets.
Declan Carnegie is a famous baseball player he is also an addict. He remembers the girl with flaming hair after his father rescued her from the ocean the very ocean that claimed her parents. With an injury and a knowledge that he really needs to get clean he finds himself on supply boat to Tristan with the excuse that he is there for the Carnegie Foundation to help modernize the island. He finds everyone here strange and different but it’s the girl with the flaming red hair that he falls for. He thinks he’s no good and that he shouldn’t corrupt Finley, but he is drawn to her. Over his time on the island he detoxes and thinks this might be the kind of life he wants. Yet when truths come to light, he wonders if he can spirit her away to a better life?
I truly liked this book, but I felt at times it was very wordy. If that makes sense. It’s a lot of story and at times I felt like I couldn’t tell you what the plot of the story was. I started getting really interested at the end when life was finally coming together. The island was almost like a cult and Finley was very naïve which I guess is par for the course when you have no real contact with the outside world. I found the island and its inhabitants very strange. I felt Declan’s struggle to get clean it was so real. He was truly a mess and I felt Finley became a different addiction to him. All in all, I really loved this story it was just a lot of story for me. I think if you like very detailed world and story building then this is your story.
Declan has everything money, fame and a wonderful baseball career. The only problem is he’s hiding a secret and decides to get away to hopefully feel better. Finley is dealing with her own demons. She suffered terribly as a child and feels trapped where she is because of fear. Can Declan or Finley overcome their demons? Will they find that they can heal one another?
Finley and Declan are magic! This book is pure gold! Finley lives on an island. She is deathly afraid of boats and the ocean so she is trapped as the nurse to its residents. Enter Declan Carnegie. He is Homer, the baseball king, pitcher for the Boston Red Sox. He is taking time off and delivering supplies for his Dad, who had an affair with Finley’s Mom, who died trying to flee the island with Finley. Declan calls her is Siren. Finley calls him Sailor or the Carnegie. Get ready to fall in love and to discover their secrets one by one. Loved this book hard! 5 stars
This cover is unapologetically heart palpitations inducingly hot. (I know what I said doesn’t seem to make sense but if you stare at it long enough your heart rate increases, your salivary glands start to overwork, and your caught gazing longingly. Be warned!)
Covet was not what I thought at all. And I guess it was. I’m not sure how to even express my feelings. It was definitely a unique story. Intriguing in its direction and path. I was surprised but then if I really thought about it, I wasn’t.
I found them the oddest of couples. Even when it was inevitable, I couldn’t feel why. It just seemed physical. As you progress further into their stories, you realize the depths of darkness surrounding them. Once you get there, you realize they are a beacon of light to each other.

Finally, the wait is over!
I could not wait to to read this installment in the Sinful Secrets series, although it is a “full” length total standalone.
This read was a heart wrenching, raw and gritty friends to lovers story. An unconventional love story that tore my heart open then nicely put it back together.
I was captivated by this emotional and gripping story. The intensity the build up, you think the story is going in one direction and boom it went another. The characters were relatable and well developed.
Overall it was well written and well developed. This author is a master at creating intricate scenes that unfold to a degree that you feel you’re there. Unfortunately, that became a detriment to this story. This book is big, hefty big and while I love a good big book some of the scenes seemed excessively long and dragged out. I felt like some of the scenes could have been streamlined and tightened up a bit.
However, I skipped along and overall I didn’t feel I missed anything and in the end I loved this story!
All the puzzle pieces to that thing called love explored “fantastically” in a remote island that really does exist!
A must read!
Covet
I absolutely loved it! I was really drawn to the story. It is so heartfelt! It is angsty slow burn.
“My heart pitter-patters, as if something inside’s creaked and now is leaking.”
“Sadness blossomed like a flower in my heart.”
“It’s true what they say: home is where the heart is. And my heart is joined to his heart, braided together.”
A Very Must Read!! Highly highly recommend.
I’ve just finished Covet. So many times during this book my heart was breaking. But as the end drew near and I slowed my pace (because their story could NOT end!), I found the good in all they endured. Happiness. Peace. Home. I can only say that as I closed the book on the story of Declan and Finley, my heart is full.
Declan’s life could be plucked from the headlines of ESPN. He has a dark side and his reasoning for going to the island of Tristan de Cunha is for his health, in more ways than one. He encounters Her. Finley. She’s the one from his memories as a child. He knows her tragedy but she’s not talking and he’s unwilling to share his struggles. Finley is a wholesome girl from an isolated and protected island. He’s too much for her.
But as they come to know each other and learn about their struggles, the connection is both tenuous and passionate. She is an innocent in the world and his desire was to protect her from it all, including himself. But there are more tragedies to be told and his time is short. It seems history is repeating itself and it doesn’t matter the need, the strength, the love, because he was always going to leave. She was always going to be left behind.
Ella James draws me into her books and I’m there on Tristan de Cunha with Declan and Finley and Baby. Covet took me on another journey to a special place with two very broken spirits who deserve so much more and dared to dream of something better, together.
An incredible story and a journey I never expected. This story took me completely by surprise and I absolutely loved it!!
Declan is a baseball superstar but also a hot mess. It’s time to get his life back on track. He’s headed to a remote island that is completely disconnected from the rest of the the world. He’ll stay for several months to clean up his act.
Finley has lived on the island her entire life. She’s the current “doctor” on the island because the actual doctor is on a leave of absence. She’s independent, a caregiver, loyal and never sits idle.
He’s lived a life of indulgence; she appreciates the simple life. Both carry baggage and pain. This is their story.
An emotionally charged love story with a connection that could not be denied. It was a slow burn that culminated into an uncontrolled blaze!!! So many secrets and a twist I never expected. The story is honest and beautiful with it’s pain. However, their love was life changing!
4.5 STARS
This is one long book, for me I found it a little slow to start with but once it gets going I was really got into the story. I’m not going to go into details of the book as I don’t want to post any spoilers. Ella knows how to write a story that will grip you, have your emotions all over the place. She knows how to pull on your heartstrings , she does it beautifully with this book I really didn’t know what to expect when I opened to read.
I can’t put into words how much I enjoyed this book I loved Sloth and loved Murder and this one didn’t let me down either.
It is a roller coaster of emotions, Unique story line for me anyway I haven’t read anything close to this great characters who you will fall for. A story that will keep you turning the pages wondering what is going happen.

5 Stars Amazing! Ella’s Best Ever! Elizabeth @ Carolina Chic’s Read
Declan & Finley have found that they can slay their demons! They are both so complex and devoted to each other. So many mountains to climb…. this story is going to give you anguish before it’s over! I laughed, cried and felt all their chemistry!
This is the Best Story to date from Ella James! Elizabeth @ Carolina Chic’s Read
Covet is going to give you a twist that you won’t see coming! This book encompasses all the feelings you always get from Ella James!
Sometimes it bothers me when the blurb is vague about a story but I love it because you don’t expect certain things from the story.
This story, from the beginning made me keep turning pages and even when the book is long, it did not feel that way because you got into the book so you felt a part of the island.
Tristan made me feel like I was back in time with not much technology and a lot of time for yourself, to find happiness in little things that happen in every-day life.
Finley is a woman who lost more than her parents, she lost part of her life, her dreams and her willingness to get a better future. She is afraid everything will repeat and she will have nothing left.
Declan’s life is upside-down, his dad told him there is only one place to get back in track. He remembers a little about Tristan when he gets there, everything is the same as he remembers, but he only cares for one thing.
Declan and Finley don’t know their firt encounter is filled with secrets that will change their lives
When they are forced to spend some time together, both will share secrets that could make them close or tear them apart
“Life is never going to be perfect. So I choose the next best thing. I’m choosing perfect for a time. I’m choosing bliss for all the moments we can find it.”
I hurt for both Declan and Finley, they are from two different worlds, that maybe in the “outside” world they wouldn’t have found each other, but in Tristan, they made perfect sense. Finley was so strong for her and for Declan that needed her even when he didn’t know how much he did.
I couldn’t stop reading because it was surprise after surprise and I just needed to know what would happen. When I read The End it felt like a weight was lifted from my heart.
