Tracey Garvis Graves, the New York Times bestselling author of On the Island, returns. What if the life you wanted, and the woman you fell in love with, belonged to someone else? Chris and Claire Canton’s marriage is on life support. Downsized during the recession and out of work for a year, Chris copes by retreating to a dark place where no one can reach him, not even Claire. When he’s … reach him, not even Claire. When he’s offered a position that will keep him away from home four nights a week, he dismisses Claire’s concern that time apart could be the one thing their fragile union can’t weather. Their suburban life may look idyllic on the outside, but Claire has never felt so disconnected from Chris, or so lonely.
Local police officer Daniel Rush used to have it all, but now he goes home to an empty house every night. He pulls Claire over during a routine traffic stop and runs into her again at the 4th of July parade. When Claire is hired to do some graphic design work for the police department, her friendship with Daniel grows, and soon they’re spending hours together.
Claire loves the way Daniel makes her feel, and the way his face lights up when she walks into the room. Daniel knows that Claire’s marital status means their relationship will never be anything other than platonic. But it doesn’t take long before Claire and Daniel are in way over their heads, and skating close to the line that Claire has sworn she’ll never cross.

This is one of my favorite tropes. Claire and Chris Canton must decide whether to walk away from their marriage, damaged beyond redemption, or fight to heal the damage created by chaos and despair. Love and heartache and wants versus needs drive this well written story.
emotional page turner
The book was well written and the heroes were very human. Although the situation wasn’t original the way the heroes dealt with it was inspiring
Im not crying, your crying! I loved this book and its sequel.
I have been a fan of Tracey’s writing since On the Island, so I don’t know why it took me so long to finally read this book. Once in a while I want to read about married couples and see how they handle their struggles. The author did a great job in showing what was going on between Claire and Chris, and how they both were handling things. My heart broke for both of them, and especially Claire was trying to keep everything together. And all Chris was doing was trying to take care of his family.
I understood why Claire was craving attention. When she meets local police officer Daniel Rush, she finally feels seen again. However, she does know her boundaries and only wants a friend with who she can be Claire again instead of just a mother to her two children. I loved Daniel, he was such a supportive guy and was there for Claire when she needed him. I was somewhat satisfied with the ending, however I wanted the scenes between Chris and Claire to be longer. The last quarter of the book flew by and I felt the scenes were a bit rushed. I am looking forward to reading the novella Cherish!
I read this book in one sitting….Tracy Garvis Graves does an amazing job giving us a realistic portrait of suburban life and marriage. If you are looking for something that is a bit different yet real-to-life, than you need to read this one. Even the cover of the book is amazing.
This is my second novel by Tracey Garvis-Graves and she can take me into a world she has created anytime! Her stories are real, thought provoking and wonderfully captivating. Covet is a novel I didn’t want to end and couldn’t put down.
As a wife and mother I could understand and empathize with Claire, one of the main characters. In Covet, Claire’s husband has lost his job and as a result suffers from depression. Once he is employed again he is constantly travelling. When he is home he focuses on the kids and work with no time left for Claire. What was once a solid marriage is now falling apart.
Claire becomes friends with local police officer Daniel Rush. A friendship that flourishes emotionally and one that Claire keeps from her husband.
Covet puts the test to love and marriage. It’s a very emotional, realistic and relatable story. I’m glad in the end that it all worked out the way that it did. However, I was deeply saddened not knowing what was to come for one of my favourite characters and had to read “Cherish” (a novella that follows) to tie up a few loose ends.
This story packs an emotional punch and will stay with you for a long time!
I have 3 of her novels, and I enjoy the way she lays out her characters, and the structure of her chapters. Just nicely written.
