Ollie and Joe….what can I say? Joe….a widower and Ollie the single mom. Neighbors, then friends and then lovers.
I can’t say this enough about how Freya Barker writes . It’s some of the best contemporary romance in the business. Her characters are always mature (both in age and attitude), smart, self reliance and someone I would want to be friends with.
Covering Ollie had me laughing, crying and on the edge of my seat the whole way through. I absolutely loved this book.
I enjoyed reading Covering Ollie. It is was a fast paced, easy read. It was suspenseful and had its share of action. This one is about Durango’s widowed new Chief of Police, Joe Benedetti. Joe meets his neighbor Ollie Rizzo through her daughter, Trinny, who baby sits his 2 young boys.
When Ollie was younger, her brother Christian was a lawyer for a family involved with the Mafia. Ollie got pulled into the mixed and became pregnant. After a traumatic event.
Ollie has spent the past 18 yrs of her life laying low. She has been trying to protect her daughter from a life of organized crime and violence. Ollie was determined to leave the past behind her. She picked up and started over in a new place with as few people as possible, knowing her and her daughter.
When things start happening, Durango Police Force, the FBI and Feds all get involved. They bring in all the protection they can to wrap up the case with minimal exposure to both Ollie and Joe’s families. As Joe keeps Ollie close and has her secured the sparks fly between to very determined people.
Ollie finds the past she thought she left behind. Has been right under her nose the entire time.
This book is a great pick up from where the 1st book in Burning Autumn left off. I’m looking forward to reading the next book in this series.
This is one of the best single parent suspenseful books wrapped up in a romance I have read..and I have read a LOT! What I totally enjoyed about this book is the fresh storyline. What is so fantastic about this read is that both characters are flawed…but in the end that makes the reward of them so much sweeter. Ollie is a smart single mom looking to make a good life for her and her daughter…and the sheriff next door is just looking for a babysitter. What comes out of their circumstances is great chemistry. This is a five star read for me!
Covering Ollie was my first time reading a book by this author but it will definitely not be my last!
I absolutely loved this book and could not put it down once I started reading. This book seriously had everything I could want in a story. There was drama, suspense, amazing characters and a story line that was unique and kept me on my toes from start to finish.
Olivia as a single mom focused on raising her teenage daughter and getting her landscape business going. When trouble comes knocking at her door she is forced to turn to her neighbor who just happens to be the chief of police.
The two soon realize that their chemistry is more than they can ignore but both are scared of what will happen if they take a chance and things don’t work out.
Get ready for a roller coaster of emotions and twists and turns you’ll never see coming.
This is a must read book for sure! By Alisa
This book captivated me right from the get . Ollie is such a wonderfully strong woman. Raising her daughter on her own under the circumstances (no spoilers) she did was terrific. Joe is a single father of two boys who recently lost his wife. He is the new chief of police. Ollie is his neighbor and the mother of his babysitter and slowly becoming a friend. Until FBI shows up. Now things change. He will do what he has to go protect her. This is a great storyline with wonderful characters, action, drama, suspense, twists, a pushy mom, out spoken friends, and lots of steam!!! Really loved Trinny. That girl is a hoot

This book is the second in the series and is as exciting as Book One. There is a bit of everything in the story-line: mystery, intrigue, a guy’s aggressive behavior bordering on abuse, romance and funny situations that will make you laugh. We are in Durango, Colorado, for this story; I enjoyed the interaction of police, FBI and the new Chief of the Police we got to know in Book One. His sons Ryder and Mason, along with Trinny, the daughter of a landscape artist, made me smile and enjoy the youth. I loved the actions of the first responders and how their intensity never wavered. There are sensual scenes in the book that are definitely part of the story so I can recommend this book for adults. (There is a large amount of harsh language that may not be acceptable for some readers.)
WOW!!!! What else is there to say. This was a really HOT story, and you will be missing out if you do not read it. I could not put it down it was that good!

I am not sure that I even know where to begin writing a review for this because it is truly an awesome experience. The author did such a great job developing the characters, that I feel like I really know them, and not just the major two characters, but the minor ones too.
I loved everything about it – the characters, the plot, the emotion, the writing, and the ability that the author had to tell me a story that had me wanting this book to go on and on.

This is the 2nd book I’ve read written by Freyer Barker; she has done a great job at writing a good book; I will definitely be reading more of her books.
The story line caught my attention at the very beginning and kept me interested throughout the entire book.
I loved the chemistry between the characters.

Covering Ollie is another perfect balance between romance and suspense. Freya knows how to bring these characters to life and really make you care for them. While reading I knew something was going to happen and just as I thought I knew where the book was headed, this story took a turn I didn’t see coming. This is a book that I didn’t want to put down and I needed to know how it would all turn out.
Joe was a character we met in Burning for Autumn. He lost his wife to cancer and is taking care of his two sons. Joe is doing what he needs to survive. Starting a new job as the chief of police, he never even thinks of romance.
Ollie has had her share of hard times in her life and is doing her best to raise her daughter. Ollie is a strong independent woman who has her life turned upside down when her brother’s life endangers hers. It’s hard for her to let new people in and let them take care of her.
Joe and Ollie have a connection they both try to fight, but it explodes once they let the other in. I loved that both of them needed the other more than they ever thought or expected. The romance developed naturally and didn’t feel forced or fast at all. What I loved the most is that them being together really made them think about old pain and what they really wanted. This new romance let them heal in many ways.
On top of the amazing romance, there is quite the suspense behind everything. It wasn’t over the top and fit this story well. Add a great cast of characters (including many we know and love from other books) and this story is complete! I definitely wouldn’t complain about getting more Joe and Ollie. I’m really looking forward to the next book in this series!
Ollie moved away from her brother due to his being in the mafia. She and her daughter have been living in Colorado for the past 18yrs. Joe moves to Colorado with his two sons after his wife dies. Ollie’s daughter starts babysitting for Joe. He gets to know the mother and daughter and begins to feel protective of them. When danger comes a knocking, will Joe be able to keep everyone safe? A great story. A must read.

I sat on this review for a couple of days. I sooo enjoyed this story! Ollie and Joe have great interactions with each other. The blending of two families works well. Lots of drama and suspense. The story is so great and deals with some heavy issues well.
This is a really great story!! I love the characters and the plot in this well written story. The story is very captivating and hooked me from the very beginning. I love Ollie and Joe! What a wonderful second chance romance with suspense, humor and very strong characters. I think this is my favorite from this author to date.
Covering Ollie is a suspenseful second chance love story. Joe is mourning the loss of his wife, and raising his two sons, as well as being the towns chief of police. Ollie is a single mom and Joe’s neighbor. She is fiecely independent and sparks are flying between Joe and herself. It has suspense, feelings, and humor which makes it perfect read to me. I thought the story, was engaging and I like how the character are older, more relatable. Looking forward to the next book from this author.
The On Call series has been awesome to read so far.
First Responders with intense backgrounds and lots of heart – combined with lots of police and fire action. Intense in more ways than one.
In this book, landscape architect Olivia ‘Ollie’ Rizzo is a powerhouse single mom whose blue haired daughter babysits for the widowed police chief.
Dark shadows from her past bring jeopardy to their front doors. Love finds a way in for the couple. If they can survive the kids, the fires, the mafia, rich buttholes, and the walls each has built around their hearts – well they have a great shot at some fun and some happy – a lot to survive though.
Good to see tiny agent Luna Roosberg in action again, kicking bad guy butt.
A fun and awesome KU read!

Freya does it again. Nobody writes characters like she does.
We met Joe Benedetti in Burning Autumn who we knew would become the new chief of police.
Joe moves to Durango with his two boys to take over the chief of police position left by Keith Blackfoot. He’s a single father who lost his wife to cancer almost 2 years ago and is trying to find a new normal for his boys and himself. Enter Ollie Rizzo, his neighbor and the mother of his boys babysitter, Trinny. Ollie herself is a single mom running her own business, raising her daughter and keeping everyone at a distance.
There is an instant attraction between Joe and Ollie but neither wants to act on it. Until someone from Ollie’s past starts to shake up her carefully constructed world and Joe finds himself wanting to protect her and her daughter.
I loved watching Joe and Ollie develop an amazing relationship along with their kids.
Ollie has a disability, and to watch how Joe responds to it, or rather how he does not see it as a disability, but just a part of who she is warmed my heart. These characters have so much depth and how they navigate the changes that are happening in their lives is a beautiful thing to read. There are also amazing secondary characters, especially Grace who is like a mother to Ollie.
I could not put this book down and there were so many feels. I highly recommend this book
I enjoyed this read. The storyline, characters and side characters were wonderful. It was well written, interesting and humorous. I recommend it to all. I received it from booksprout and voluntarily left my review.
I have been patiently waiting for Joe’s story after meeting him in Keith and Autumn’s book and let me tell you it was so worth the wait. I freakin loved Ollie and Joe’s story. Joe is the new chief of police trying to pick up the pieces of his life after his wife’s death a year and a half ago. Moving to a new place is going to go a long way of healing not only him but his 2 young sons. Ollie is his neighbor. Her daughter Trinny is Joe’s babysitter for the boys. He has always noticed her but that is as far as it went. Things change when Ollie has the FBI knocking on her front door. He takes over and realizes that she is far more important to him than he realized. Can the two of them knock down the protective walls they put in place to help them survive….to embrace the second chance that fate has offered them? Or will Ollie’s past derail any possibility of that ever happening. This book was omg so so good!!! I was hooked from beginning to end and hated to see it end. I was on the edge of my seat with all the action and suspense and lord have mercy the sexy moments Joe and Ollie shared was so freakin hot!!! I highly recommend this book to all and I can’t wait to read Dylan’s book next. Another fantastic story by this very talented author….well done!!!!
This is book two in the Police and Fire: Operation Alpha series. I really enjoyed reading this book as book characters are a little older and are single parents. Ollie is a long time resident of Durango and single parent of a teenage daughter. Joe, recently moved to Durango, is the new chief of police and he is the single parent to two boys. Joe and his boys move in across the street from Ollie and her daughter. Even though they are only looking at focusing on their children and life with no love interest, this becomes difficult as they get to know one another but also as the FBI comes looking for Ollie. I found this book to be a great read. I loved the characters they had secrets to share and brought entertainment to the story with their interaction. The story itself I found was a fast paced read with a few twists that kept you guessing and turning the page. Come to the town of Durango, you will not be disappointed.

Freya Barker is a phenomenal writer, one of my favorites I am always guaranteed a good story. Covering Ollie was no exception! This book is an edge of your seat romantic suspense with kick ass characters!
Joe is a middle aged widower and is HOT, but most of all he is so sweet and loving. He loses his wife and relocates to Durango, he is also the new police chief. Across the street lives his babysitter Trinny and her mom Ollie. Ollie has a shady past and if finally catches up with her. Sparks start to fly between Joe and Ollie and then a complete whirlwind of events happen.
What I love about Freya’s books is they have so much depth and usually middle age characters that I can totally relate to. This story had me laughing, crying and had so many twists. Do yourself a favor, grab a cup of coffee and one click!
