Helena gave up on love the day she was forced to marry a lecher four times her age.Fortunately, the Earl of Cambridge did her the great service of dying on their wedding night. Unfortunately, she was stripped of all her worldly possessions and thrown out onto the street by Stephen, her late husband’s heir, an arrogant rogue with a heart of ice and the most piercing blue eyes Helena has ever seen. Helena has ever seen.
Saved from starvation by a mysterious benefactor, Helena has done her best to put her past behind her. Until her benefactor shows up in her parlor and his identity brings old feelings of mistrust and new forbidden passions swirling to the surface. Courting the Countess of Cambridge was an engaging paced ‘love at first sight’ regency romance novella by Jillian Eaton. It all went wrong for Helena and Stephen but 4 years later they have another chance which was worth reading for their happily ever after.
Fun story with great characters. Can’t wait for Percy’s turn at happily ever after.
Miss Helena Holton thought she had met and fallen in love at first sight with Stephen Darby, Viscount Ware and he told her the night they met at a ball he wanted to marry her. He was leaving the next day for his Grand Tour and they agreed she would wait for him to return. That never happened and she was forced to marry a man 4 times her age and most importantly, Stephen’s father the Earl of Cambridge. So many misunderstandings, lack of communication surround the couple and after the death of his father, Stephen begins his revenge for what he thinks is Helena’s love of money and that is why she married his father. His father died of a heart attack on the night of his marriage to Helena and after a couple of years Stephen returns to claim what she owes him. Their hate for one another, arguing, needling and accusing makes for interesting reading and finally they neither one can deny the love they still feel. All truths, explanations, and lies come out in the end for a HEA. I loved this couple and highly recommend this novella. It is long enough that Jillian Eaton helps you get to know, love and root for them as a couple.
“Courting the Countess of Cambridge” by Jillian Eaton
Book 2 of 3 in the series ‘The Secret Wallflower Society
A light sweet historical romance with an easy reading pace telling Helena’s story.
A worthy read. I downloaded this using Amazon Kindle Unlimited.
This is the first book I have read by Jillian Eaton. Keep in mind this is a novella, so things do progress a bit more quickly and character development is not as defined. But that does not take away from the charm of the book. It is a captivating story that had me hooked till the very end. The author does a wonderful job describing each scene and really taking you back to that time period. The characters were wonderful and had depth and great personality. I really enjoyed the dialogue and witty banter between Helena and Stephen. Ms. Eaton does a wonderful job of creating characters who are endearing and really knows how to capture their emotions and feelings and give them depth. I didn’t realize when I picked this up that it is the second book in the series. I really enjoyed reading it and am definitely going to go back and read the first one. Looking forward to more! I definitely recommend this one!

The heart knows what the hearts wants..Sometimes from a first meeting and that is what happened when Stephen, Lord Ware first met Helena as she stood by the fountain outside of the ballroom. Unfortunately he was already set to go on his grand tour and he hopes she will wait for his return. But with no choice, she is forced to marry, who else, but his father! Yes it gets a little tricky but the older gentleman does her the favor of dying on their wedding night! Can it get any more twisted?
Yes, because Stephen, the heir comes and throws her out on the street. A mysterious benefactor helps her though with funds for her to live.
Tension, secrets, promises unfulfilled and an attraction that cannot be denied weave this story into a page turner! I really enjoy this author’s writing and dialogue as she creates characters who draw you into her words. Cannot wait for more!
True love and love at first sight never runs smoothly. These two characters learn that listening and speaking up is the most important lesson in life.
Probably my least favorite story by this author.
One part I did enjoy was the blurb that proceeded the story. I always like that because I read on my computer and always have to go to the author’s page on Amazon to read what the story is about. No idea why I like to know about it before starting a story, but I 100% of the time always do – lol.
If you read any of my review’s you know I CAN’T STAND when a misunderstanding is what the story line is about. In this one, it took us to 81% mark before the truth was revealed. I’m so proud of myself that I completed the book! The H never gave the h a chance to explain, and she didn’t insist on telling him – oh brother!
The Lord’s name is used in vain. This is a clean story with only kisses. They both fall madly in love within minutes and before a kiss, that was hard to swallow too.
No cheating, no cliffhanger, no epilogue, HEA, no romance, no spice.

Book two in the Secret Wallflower Society series a well written story with a very good storyline the story flowed smoothly across the pages. Helena and Stephen have loved each other for years but then she married his father. Stephen’s father died the night they where married. This story has suspense, drama, twists, turns, a couple of secrets, a unknown benefactor and a second chance. Great story. I want to read the next book.
This was a story about love at first sight, broken promises, and revenge. Stephen and Helena met in a garden at a party before he was going away on his grand tour. He had no right to ask her to wait for him when she has no rights as a women during that time and had to follow her parents’ wishes. When he discovers she is marrying his father, he won’t even let her explanation, just enacts an elaborate way to humiliate her and made her dependent on him. I thought Helena was brave standing up to him and helping Percy escape her violent husband.
Things are not always what they seem.
Now this one is twisted married off to a man four times her age then he dies on their wedding night no less and in walks the heir and throws her out on the street. Then fate sends her a mysterious benefactor who help, but wait for it – it the darn bloody heir of her dead husband Stephen. Now can you see the problems this may cause? Now you will find that Stephen and Helena have a history and that makes the story even more interesting. I love the twists and turns it takes. This was a good book and I highly recommend it. I did receive a free copy of this book and voluntarily chose to review it.
So very, very good!! I had been eagerly waiting for this book ever since I had read the teaser about Helena and Stephen at the end of the first book in this series! What a beautiful but also sad beginning they had to their story! I completely understood why Helena felt she could not tell Stephen the truth. She was living in an age where women did not have the rights and assurance that the legal system in that time period would be fair and take into consideration all the circumstances within her situation! And that is hopefully enough of a tease to get you to read this book!! You will not be sorry. It is so worth it!!

A Fantastic Read!! Courting the Countess of Cambridge by Jillian Eaton is book 2 in the Secret Wallflower Society. What a great series. Jillan Eaton has an amazing and creative mind and her stories are so original. They are easy to read and this has a bit of a twist to it. Also you just fall in love with her character. Though in a series this book can be read as a standalone but I recommend you read The Earl of Winchester, book 1 to get the full story. This story has a forced marriage, misunderstandings, death, a broken heart, broken promises, love at first sight and a second chance at love. Yes.. I highly recommend this book.
This is the 2nd book in the Secret Wallflower Society series by Jillian Eaton. When I read the 1st book, I could not wait for this book to read about Helena. It was worth the wait! I enjoyed this book about Helena and Stephen, I loved their dialog, and their chemistry. This book had me from the first chapter, I fell in love with Helena and Stephen and how Stephen fell in love with her. Jillian Eaton is a wonderful writer and I enjoy all her books.
I received a free copy of this book by Booksprout, but this review is my honest opinion.
Even though there is a misunderstanding which I normally say “just tell him/her and be done with it”, I loved this story. Maybe it was the sweet insta-love at the beginning or maybe it was Stephen’s way of saying he still loved Helena or maybe it was both of their vulnerabilities. I do love a book with lots of dialog especially if it is witty and bold. The only issue is that I thought it ended to abruptly and would have loved to read a story twice this size about Stephen and Helana.
I received a complimentary copy from Booksprout.
Love at first sight and put on hold! Helena and Stephen fall in love in a moment and make promises that, due to circumstances that change, cannot be kept. Anger rules them both along with miscommunications. Jillian Eaton creates two wonderful characters who pull at my heart strings! I couldn’t help but wish for them to resolve the misunderstanding. I especially enjoyed their coming to accept that they still are deeply in love! I recommend this book.
I was provided an advanced reader copy but these opinions are mine and voluntarily given.
