Overall rating: 5
A shocking conclusion to a heart wrenching epic tale! This author truly held me captive with gut wrenching, action packed scenes, dangers at every turn and shocking twists and turns. I can even talk about these characters without describing something best left for the reader! The best review I can give this series…is the fact that all four paperbacks are now wrapped as a Christmas present. All my reviews are always voluntarily written.
The 4th book in this epic military saga has left me breathless, as I travelled with Aravon and his heroic band, the Grim Reavers on yet another terrifying battle. This could very well be their last as the venture was so risky it was just suicidal, however our dauntless heroes venture into a terrain where no other Princelander had ventured before. They cross the Sawtooth mountains in freezing temperatures, fighting foes they never dreamt of crossing paths with except in their worst nightmares, in search of the worst nightmare of all, Tyr Farbjodr, the Eirdkilr who planned on taking down the Princelands after his attack on Icespire failed. The giant was fearless and according to Captain Lingram he could not be killed. our eight soldiers had to survive the crossing of the mountains, navigate the icy wastelands and kill Tyr Farbjodr and they had to do this in the few days they had left and they were running out of time. A daring venture with great world building of the treacherous mountain ranges and the wastelands, with such amazing descriptions of the ice and cold I felt I was freezing whilst reading and an amazing cast of heroic characters which have the readers routing for them till the last line. There are very sad parts to this novel but what sticks out the most is the fearlessness and heroism of our group of friends who would rather give up their own lives than see another of their group do so or the venture to fail. I love the way the author manages to tie up so well all the loose ends of the story in the end, giving us an ending really worth waiting for! For all readers who love military, sword and sorcery, gritty and grimdark epic fantasy with no holds barred this is the series you just have to read!
Wow. Andy Peloquin delivers an extraordinary book and this one is just excellent. You just can’t stop reading it or sleep. It’s an magnificent adventure. Andy has magical powers in his writings. I read almost all his books and they’re amazing. Great job. I received a copy and voluntary leaving a review
Courage to Sacrifice definitely lives up to its title, calling on the Grim Reavers and Ragged Heroes to be ready to make the ultimate sacrifice if necessary to end the Eirdkilr threat once and for all. There is no hesitation in any of them and they are determined to make the mission succeed no matter what it takes. And it takes a lot. Not all our heroes will return and those that do will be changed. Yet Aravon will let nothing stop them from succeeding in their mission – not even a Keeper-damned demon!
Outstanding! A final impossible mission to end the threat from Tyr Farbjodr. The Grim Reavers are joined by the Deadheads in an action packed race against time, distance, untold enemies, impossible situations, and one twist even I missed the signs for (wow!). As always, wonderful characters, tons of amazing action & adventure, a fabulous story, and a deep understanding of what motivates a person. Loved this series!
In this final battle everything is
on the line; families, country,
freedom, even life itself.
Victory or death; there’s nothing else !!

Oh my gosh!! Wow. What did I just finish reading?!?! I have been sitting for 3 days trying to figure out what to write about Courage to Sacrifice so that everyone will pick up this series. If you have been following along there could not have been a better ending for this action packed heart felt series. Aravon and the Grim Reavers are headed south into the frozen wasteland of their world to stop Tyr Farbjodr, commander of the Eirdkilrs. The hardship they encounter is more grueling and harrowing than anything before. You listen to Aravon ruminate his past, questioning the decision to go on this death mission and what they are up against. Mr. Peloquin has once again detailed the pain and suffering of his characters and the story of their losses and has successfully torn my heart out for everyone on this mission. In some way I think of the movie the Revenant and what Dicaprio went through in the cold. When it came to the last two chapters I was gutted with loss but a sliver of light had shown through at the end. And I will leave it at that, don’t want to spoil anything for you. My favorite book yet!!! OMG. One that leaves you saying WTF? Dang that was Good!
