“Country Hearts”, from author Cindi Madsen and Hallmark Publishing, is a delightful example of how enjoyable contemporary romantic fiction can be when it’s well-written. While I wanted to see the story line reach a “happily-ever-after” ending, I still wanted to visit with the characters a while longer because I liked them so much. At the same time Jemma Monroe lost her teaching job, her boyfriend let her know that he only wanted them to be friends–no romance. Convinced by a friend and coworker to accept a temporary teaching job in the small Colorado town of Haven Lake, Jemma packed up her belongings and her pet rabbit and headed West. Always a “big city girl” and lover of shoes and fashion and decadent coffee drinks, Jemma wondered how she was going to survive the culture shock, much less the snow. She did find a little cafe which made delicious, inventive coffee drinks and addictive chocolate muffins, and she also found that the simple pleasures of small-town life and the genuine friendliness of the local residents made her not miss so much of what she had left behind in the city. Jemma found her students to be a joy, and one student in particular captured her heart. Bailey Rae Langford and her handsome cowboy father, Wyatt, were Jemma’s next-door neighbors. As soon as Jemma landed in Haven Lakes, Wyatt had begun helping her out of one sticky situation and then another. Gorgeous, gruff, and a dedicated father, Wyatt had a sharp, teasing sense of humor. Jemma gave back as good as she got, and she and Wyatt both enjoyed their verbal banter. Wyatt also noticed how pretty and kind Jemma was, and how much Bailey Rae adored her. but he found it hard to trust a “city woman”–Bailey Rae’s mother had left him and their daughter behind in the dust for a better and bigger life far from the country. The more time that Jemma and Wyatt spend together, the more the attraction between them begins to grow, but each has their own personal reasons for hesitating to act upon the sparks flying between them. A friendship–almost like family-has formed between Jemma and Wyatt, and at the heart is precocious Bailey Rae, who desperately wants for the three of them to become a real family. However, as the end of Jemma’s substitute teaching position draws near, many doubts linger and questions remain unanswered. Can Wyatt and Jemma both take a big leap of faith and reach out for a future filled with love, laughter, and a happy family life? I greatly enjoyed “Country Hearts”, and I look forward to reading more works by talented author Cindi Madsen.

Light, easy cowboy romance. City girl Jemma takes a temporary teaching job in a small Colorado town where she meets super hot cowboy Wyatt Langford in not the best of circumstances. It turns out that not only is Wyatt her sexy new neighbour, he’s also single parent to one of her students, the completely adorable and way too wise for her years, Bailey-Rae. Both having been burnt in the past, neither of them are willing to put themselves out there. However it would seem that this small town is full of matchmakers, even Bailey-Rae gets in on the action. Wonderfully written in dual POV, lovely characters (including some really cute animals) and a sweet story from start to finish, I must say, I did shed a tear towards the end. Country Hearts is a cute romance of the clash between country and city. I adore all of the characters in this story. Wyatt and Jemma are great together even from the grumpy start and Wyatt’s daughter could not be cuter! I fell for all of the people in the town and their meddling ways. It was a fast heartwarming read I would recommend.

This would definitely make a great Hallmark special. I loved that it was about a teacher and as always, the single dad/hot cowboy next door helps seal the worth reading deal!
Jenna has an instant connection to Wyatt’s daughter- who is also in her class. Bailey deserves a mother figure who will love her unconditionally after being without a mom for so long.
Wyatt is a prince who shows up at always the right time to save Jemma from disaster.
Great read! Very sweet and enjoyable!
Jemma has an upheaval in the middle of the school year. Luckily she ends up in the most heavenly small town. When she meets her neighbor, she decides he must hate helping her.
Wyatt cannot believe how attracted to his daughter’s teacher he is. He knows she should be off limits. She is not planning to stay, either. If he could just turn the attraction off enough to be just friends…..
This story just grabbed me from the start. The characters are witty, charming, and seriously attracted to one another! With this story, I eagerly turned the pages. Humor, surprises, and even bits of whimsy appeared.

Jemma Monroe heads to the small town of Haven Lake to take a temporary teaching position after she was laid off. She didn’t quite know what to expect from the small town but she was up for the adventure. And boy did she get one! Where else would you answer the knock at the door to see a horse standing there? Or be in the middle of teaching and have a slithery, forked tongued vistor make an unforgettable entrance? Or meet a handsome, yet grumpy, cowboy that gives you butterflies?
Wyatt Langford has sworn off women ever since his wife left him and their daughter, Bailey Rae. He never wants to experience that kind of heartache again. Nor does he ever want to pick up the pieces of his precious daughter’s heart after someone leaves them yet again. But he can’t deny the pull that Jemma has on him. He’ll just have to do his best to stay as far away from her as possible because his heart isn’t the only one on the line.
Staying away proves to be a problem, especially in a small town. The more Jemma and Wyatt get to know each other, the more time they want to spend together. Throw the adorable Bailey Rae into the mix and they all start feeling like they’re a family.
But Wyatt can’t forget that Jemma’s time in Haven Lake is only temporary. He’ll have to decide if he should push her away once and for all or take a leap of faith to see if maybe, just maybe, they can become the family they all have been longing for.
*dreamy sigh*
For those of you that don’t know, I’m a sucker for small town and single parent tropes. And when you put the two of them together in the same book, I’m instantly hooked and can’t wait to read it!
I’m happy to say that Country Hearts did not disappoint! I instantly fell in love with Jemma, Wyatt and Bailey Rae and couldn’t wait for their story to unfold. I could not get enough of the banter back and forth between Jemma and Wyatt. I found myself busting out laughing and enjoying every minute of it. Add the little matchmaker, Bailey Rae, into the mix and there’s no way you aren’t going to love this book.
And I absolutely adored Haven Lake! I felt like I was transported there and I didn’t want to leave. I wanted to curl up in Havenly Brew and watch life unfold around me while I’m nibbling on all the yummy treats and trying the new, fun drinks. This was the perfect book to curl up with on a quiet weekend.
This is my first book by Ms. Madsen and I’ll definitely be looking into reading more of her books.

This is my first book by Cindi Madson and I thoroughly enjoyed it.
After unexpectedly being let go from her job, Jemma Monrow has accepted an interim teaching position in the tiny farming community of Haven Lake. Even though she is only going to be there temporarily and her heart was recently shattered, she can’t help but fall for the kind-hearted farmer next door and his adorable, fashionista daughter.
Wyatt Langford has closed his heart off to the possibility of another relationship after his wife left for the big city. His daughter can’t take another loss and neither can he. But when his new neighbor turns out to be his daughter’s new teacher they keep getting thrown together.
With a door knocking horse, a town determined to pair them up and a pint size cupid on the loose, these two don’t stand a chance at keeping their hearts locked up.
So funny! I laughed so many times – Wyatt’s attempt at a birthday party for his sweet, precocious daughter was hilarious.

Sweet, heartwarming, and filled with wonderful characters. It’s a feel good read.
