Maggie thought she was married to an earl . . . but it seems that her late and unlamented husband lied to her from the day they met. Now—penniless and stranded in London—she has thrown herself on the mercy of the real Lord Warwick. What’s a counterfeit countess to do?
Edward, the Earl of Warwick, desires only to get rid of the beautiful woman who arrived at his house with no less than fourteen trunks, a younger sister, a maid, and a very large cat. Her preposterous explanation is of no importance—but her late husband held the clue to the identity of England’s greatest traitor, a clue the Foreign Service must get at any cost. Edward will have to guard her night and day—but he cannot guard his heart.

This was a delightful story. Two strong lead characters. A “Countess” who really wasn’t a countess as she had been taken advantage of and married by a scoundrel impersonating a lord before he died under titillating circumstances. A handsome lord who befriends her and hopes to get some important information out of her pertaining to his job with the foreign service. Several laugh out loud humorous moments especially regarding one large feline. Our hero Edward soon falls in love with Maggie but is deeply torn because of his long-term engagement with a lovely and beautiful girl. Maggie falls in love with Edward but knows he is destined for another and she must soon find someone else to marry and support her and her younger sister and long-time servant. There are lots of suitors for her to consider. Throw in a good amount of mystery, suspense, and some treachery. And then a HEA!
I was sick of the Heroine by chapter 5.
Banal story, poorly written
Nope.
enjoyed it wasn’t able to perdict who did it
After reading a book that is more in depth I enjoy historical romances
