The author accomplishes something that is difficult to do: she personalizes and fictionalizes the Bible while upholding the fact that the Bible is Truth from God. She uses a young Egyptian woman as the believable catalyst for the story and character interactions. I also appreciate the author’s writing skills, which are delightfully artful in describing God’s creation as well as the dynamic movements in people’s lives, and I’m glad to say she uses no cliches. The characters seem like real people. This is historical fiction that is among the more creatively written that I have read. (I love authors like Lynne Austin and Tessa Afshar, who both write well while being faithful to Biblical prinicples and doctrine.) I selected several of your adjective choices to say what I like about this book, including “Happily Ever After,” because in the end God is victorious and those who believe in Him/Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord will share in that victory for eternity. That’s THE best happy ending!
Made a story I know so well come to life.
Really brought to life the story of Moses. Was very true to the bible. Loved this book and plan on reading more from this author.
Loved this book – really brought the book of Exodus to life!
Very good book.
Great story of redemption of a group of people, as well as various individuals. For Christians, this exodus story of the the children of Israel is told from a different and entertaining light. It explains the gods of Egypt that were ridiculed, as well as shows the power of the true and living God. It shows a sweet courtship between two people from different backgrounds, as well as the same type of criticism that people in similar situations sometimes face even today. It is a lovely story.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I have always loved reading the Old Testament and this just gave a different perspective to the miraculous release of the Jewish nation. The viewpoint from an Egyptian who, in this story, escaped with the Jews. Excellent and well written!
Very different point of view of the Hebrew Exodus out of Egypt. Interesting.
This new author is amazing! This is one of 3 in a series and the author’s 1st books to publish; I’ve read all three and all were very good.
Brilliant!
Blew right through this story. It was THAT good.
I really enjoyed it. We often read of Biblical events, but the story takes “could have happened” view of those events through the eyes of someone who lived through it.
Historical Fiction at its best. Exploring monumental historic events through the eyes of an unlikely protagonist.
Historical interpretation of the Exodus from a new perspective.
Loved this book!!
Very informative about Jewish nation escaping Egypt. Realistic characters.
Enjoyed reading from the prospective of an Egyptian. (Especially during the plagues). Liked getting to know the main character. Would’ve enjoyed getting to know Shira a little bit more. Overall, an enjoyable read.
This was a tremendous piece of storytelling which I will probably re-read in years to come. It follows the life of a pampered wealthy Egyptian young woman sold into slavery to pay off her father’s debts. She is befriended by a Hebrew slave, who convinces her to join the slave’s family on the last night of the plagues when every firstborn in Egypt was struck down. Told from the perspective of someone who has no idea about what is going on, the significance of the escape from Egypt or the history of the Israelites, the explanations were really well-written and didn’t get bogged down in exposition. Read this book! You won’t be sorry…
Very good historical biblical romance. It gives a new perspective from outside the Hebrew people of the time of Moses. An privileged Egyptian girl is thrown into slavery and gets a taste of what Hebrews have endured for centuries, then leaves Egypt with the Hebrews. Nice romance woven in.
This book followed closely with the Biblical account. The story itself was really good and could be believable. I really enjoyed reading this author and have purchased the next book in the series.
