In the heart of Louisiana, the most powerful people in the South live behind elegant gates, mossy trees, and pleasant masks. Once every ten years, the pretense falls away and a tournament is held to determine who will rule them. The Acquisition. Now, Sinclair Vinemont is in the running to claim the prize. There is only one way to win, and he has the key to do it — Stella Rousseau, his Acquisition. … Acquisition. To save her father, Stella has agreed to become Sinclair’s slave for one year. Though she is at the mercy of the cold, treacherous Vinemont, Stella will not go willingly into darkness.
As Sinclair and Stella battle against each other and the clock, only one thing is certain: The Acquisition always ends in blood.
Full disclosure: This book is a dark romance and is the first of a completed series.
more
This book was much less dark then I thought, don’t get me wrong there are some VERY dark scenes, but they are nicely spaced between a real story line. I expected pure darkness, dirt, pain, humiliation, and punishment; what I did not expect was detailed brilliant characters, a thought out plot, and an anti hero to capture my heart. There is much more to this story then meets the eye and it is a brillant work of fiction.
Sin and Stella have such a dynamic and strained relationship, that the push and pull is extremely emotional. I can feel Stella’s hate and fear but also her frustration and caring heart. Sin has so many secrets that he is drowning and Stella is his only hope. He needs her but will not tell her what her role is, while she feels powerless and wants some type of information to help guide her. As a reader I can feel their connection, their feelings so I get angry and frustrated when they do not properly communicate.
What Sin doesn’t understand is that (and this is my opnion) Stella would be willing to help him, to help save the Vinemont’s if he would just open up, tell her the truth, and treat her like a human, and a woman.
This story ends on a fairly large cliffhanger and builds the excitment for the next book. This is definitely one of those stories you cannot just read the first book of, you must read them all. I am overwhelmed in the best of ways and will be moving directly to the next book.
This is pretty dark, but somehow hot. Isn’t that a little twisted? I feel kind of fucked up, as much as the whole situation is where this story takes place. But I love twisted and fucked up characters.
The little cliffhanger here shot me right to the second book.
a complete copy of pepper winters debt collection……..
Don’t bother
I hope I didn’t pay for this. First of all, it ends with a promise of more of the same for book 2. This isn’t BDSM. I’m not exactly sure what it is. Our heroine is sold by her father (to keep him out of prison) to an attorney who is involved in family tradition/community tradition of acquiring (hence the title) an individual who becomes their what…. sex slave? not yet at least. Lots of humiliation and promises of whipping, cutting, whatever they do. storyline is sick because it went nowhere. You get the hint that the bad guy is falling for the heroine but… don’t end with a cliff hanger.
Very graphic
Simply loved this book
Twisted but hot also
This riveting book has a dark, twisted, unique story line with passion, danger, aggression, seduction, violence that grabs you from the start. There are lots of surprises, with very memorable characters and a cliffhanger that urges you to continue this tale with book 2.
Loved it!
I could not put it down. I had to get the series.
This was a little too hard core for me and very disappointed that ii will never know the end because it’s continued, of course! I’ve decided not to purchase additional books since I know there will be too much pain for the female character to endure and quite frankly more than I wamt to read aboit.
This was hard content to read, but I enjoyed the trilogy. If you like Dark Romance, this is a good series.
This was a very good book but may be offensive to some it you don’t have an open mind and realize this is fiction reading. I really enjoyed the book.
This book reveals a sad truth. Human beings, no matter how amazing they seem, no matter how much good they do, can be the devil in disguise. It also brings to life a possible reality that could be found on the ‘Dark Web’. A group of sick, narcissistic, entitled people who think they are above all others, including others in their own group. If you like to delve into the absolute worst of mankind’s psyche, this is a book for you.
How is this rated 4.0? Just how?
I picked it up because so many people on Goodreads rated high and it was free. Well it did cost me my time to read it. I will not finish the series.
I like a dark read but this just wasn’t done well for me. It was more cruel than sinister.
Try Pepper Winders “Indebted” it’s very similar and a much better read.
Oh Wow, I could not stop reading this book, I also muttered to myself reading it-lol, so much dark and wrong with Sinclair and Stella then add Sinclair’s brother Lucius along with the cliffhanger your doing the OH WOW!! Will be reading Magnate, I’m hooked!!!
It is an ok book. I would have like more of a story line to be a page turner. The book was beautifulmy written. After reading it I really want to finish the other books to see what happens. Enjoy them.
This is my second book that I have read by this author. I liked it. Not as much as the first book but I still liked it. I thought it was okay.
Stella’s father is being sued by Sinclair Vinemont, the district attorney. To save her father from going to jail, Sinclair makes Stella an offer. She must sign a contract to give the next year of her life over to Sinclair to do as he pleases.
Sinclair wants her as his Acquisition. In the South there is a tradition to hold with the powerful and rich families south of the Mason-Dixon line. Every ten years there are three families chosen to bring an Acquisition. Only the firstborn are allowed to know what goes on. This time around Sinclair’s family was chosen and he must have an Acquisition. He picked Stella to be his. Through a year Sinclair must bring Stella to four different balls. The best Acquisition wins the spot for the family they belong to be Sovereign. Sinclair wants to win. Sovereign has control of everything.
While I haven’t read many dark books, this one didn’t feel dark. Well it did but it didn’t. It felt to me as this should be put in the future as a dystopia. I’m still very confused on why the Acquisition happens and why there are ruling families in the south. I am hoping in the next books it explains it a little better.
I really don’t like Lucius. I think it has more to do with the name than his mannerisms. Sinclair was alright. He’s no Garrett Blackwood. I am curious on what happens next for Stella and how the rest of her year will pan out after that ending.
P.S. Both her dad and Sinclair are assholes.
Love this series!
