4.5
I liked this book a lot better than book one…. It had a lot of growth from the characters to the story.
We pick up shortly after where the last book ended and see how Leah handles her immortality. Just when they think all is set and done and they can live in peace things get messy.
I really enjoyed the pace of this book it was not too fast, nor too slow.
I really thought I knew where this was going but there were a few surprises along the way and we get thrown for a loop, which I really loved .
I really enjoyed that Jack and Leah not only grew themselves but with the story.
I found both Jack and Leah a bit annoying last book, while I was still not a big fan of them I liked them better this book, that it I just got used to them. While I liked them individually better, I didn’t really care for them together. It was all a bit much and maybe seemed a bit too pushed overall and Jack sometimes came over more of an immature brat than jealous.
Artagan was still my favorite but we also mee t some pretty cool new people.
Overall I really enjoyed more than last book and thought it was a interesting book that kept me captivated to the last page.
I rate it 4.5
Will they both survive what Death has in store for them?
Council of Souls by Jen Printy is the so anticipated sequel to the thrilling first book. I know I didn’t have to wait as long as some people might have, thank goodness.
Jack Hammond
Jack Hammond is one of our protagonists, love interest, and our only point of view character. He is forever twenty years old and doesn’t want to let Leah go now that he has found her. Just one big problem and that is Death has his hands on her. Jack doesn’t know what to do but help Leah out as best as he can while staying true to himself. Throughout the book, this gets harder for the two of them to deal with.
Likes and Dislikes
These are the things I like about Jack:
• He is a true gentleman to the core. Even though he tries to fit into today’s society, his manners are ingrained deep in him. This adjustment still proves to be difficult for the young man.
• As an immortal stuck at the age of twenty, Jack gets carded a lot. I find it funny that he is one hundred and seventy years old, but he still gets carded.
• No matter what Jack is always there for Leah even when she pushes him away.
Now my dislikes for Jack: there is only one thing. Jack is a very stubborn young man. I guess the saying the older you get, the more stubborn you are is true for Jack even more so when it comes to Leah.
Leah Winters
Leah Winters is our second protagonist, the last part of the couple, and isn’t a point of view character. The only parts of Leah that we truly know is what we know from Jack’s point of view. Although she is a fascinating character that is trying her best to fit into so many things. Leah is only eighteen and will stay that way forever now. She is a fantastic artist and will make a great one. Leah has been through a lot, she is trying to deal with it while navigating this new part of her life. She is also my favorite of the two.
Likes and Dislikes
These are the things that I like about Leah:
• Leah is a great character that levels out Jack as best as she can.
• She is a great artist, and this is a major like from me since I like art, primarily paintings.
• I also like that Leah will call out Jack when he is a doofus on not letting her help.
• Then there is their bond and that she tries to protect him as he did with her.
Now onto my dislikes of Leah:
Leah didn’t ask Jack for help when she needed it.
Then why did she do what she did? I can’t exactly say as it’s a spoiler, but jeez. Sometimes Leah can be a real blond.
Five Stars
Council of Souls by Jen Printy is just as wonderful as the first book. Magnificent is the best word to describe this book. I love how she also adds the plot twists in here. My favorite one happens to be a spoiler but wow didn’t see that coming.
I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy from the author. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.

This is a new author for me & I rarely read urban fantasy. This story is captivating, kept me on the edge of my seat with the anticipation of what will happen next. Most stories that focus on a couple in a romantic way go through a few bumps to test the strength of their bond but to me this is much deeper and brings to the forefront the questions of how much do you really love your partner and are you really willing to give you all. Very interesting story. I received a copy at no cost and without obligation from the author.
Council of Souls takes place after My Soul Immortal and builds from there.
In this novel, Artagan’s character is more of a player and so his character development is fantastically done. Jack, still strong, is devoted to Leah and he will fight to protect her. Poor Leah is going through quite a bit in this novel, but she reluctantly absorbs everything that is thrown at her.
The pacing of this novel is great and Jen Printy’s writing is still beautiful. I love the themes of this novel, and as a reader we are given a very different view of Death to think about.
I’m a fan of this series and am looking forward to more from Jen Printy. I highly recommend checking this out, but do read the books in order.

5 Cranky Stars
This is book 2 in the Fated Eternals series. If you haven’t read book 1-My Soul Immortal, I advise that you do so first. The first book introduces the characters and their relationships which is vital to understanding this book. I found this loved book 1 and found it hard to put down. I was so happy to have book 2 ready to read with no break in between. The characters are endearing, and the storyline is a little different take on good and evil.
Leah has had her life changed forever by Jack’s attempt to save her from Death. She is a Soul Immortal and carries the memories of Jack’s first love Lydia. What makes her unique is that only once before has this happened. Normally, the memories can’t be recalled. Leah however had cancer at age 13 and has been dreaming of Jack since then. She is an artist and has drawn pictures of the memories. This shouldn’t be possible. If history repeats itself, she will lose all these memories if she dies. Neither Jack nor she wants this to happen. So, Jack makes a pact with Death to make her immortal like him and they can live happily ever after.
Right, with Death, there can be no happily ever after. He makes the rules and he can break the rules. As a result, and because of a devious council member, Leah must become a council member. The council members are gatherers. They kill people and “gather their souls” when Death determines it is that person or person’s time to go. Jack’s mentor Artagan had one week to tell them about this. Now, Leah must be trained to be a gatherer and take her place on the council. Killing is not in Leah’s blood and the first night, she breaks down completely. Jack insists on accompanying her from then on. He turns out to be an added complication.
Because of his interference, things don’t go quite as expected. This book takes so many twists I almost got lost. The suspense kept me on the edge of my seat, and I couldn’t put it down until I finished it. There are still so many unanswered questions, I hope book 3 comes along soon.
I hadn’t read book 1 in the series before starting this, and while there were a few things that I feel I missed, I was able to follow the story easily enough. But I will definitely be going back to read book 1 (and hope a book 3 is in the works).
Jack and Leah are looking for their happy ever after, but they’ve learned that she’s going to have to work on the council. She’s going to have to reap souls, something that she’d never thought she would have to do. Starting off her training with their friend Artagan, the first trip out weighs heavily on her. The only upside to her training is that she’s learning abilities she didn’t know she had, and she’s much stronger than anyone thought possible.
But of course, her seat on the council means that someone else didn’t get it, and the other members aren’t happy about it. So we follow Leah not only as she learns to reap, but as she tries to work with Death and the other members.
As I said, I will be going back to read book 1 so I can see Jack and Leah’s journey to date, but I really like them together. They have a very long and interesting history, and they are in a new predicament that I must find out about, which is why I’m anxious for the next book. Council of Souls was very well-written, the story is engaging, and the characters are all incredible, even the ones you don’t want to like are good at being bad. A very fun story.
Council of Souls is the second book in the Fated Eternals series, and we continue our story with Jack and Leah. We start off with Artegan as he finds out just what Death intends for Leah now. He knows that Jack won’t like it, and will possibly do something stupid, so he doesn’t say anything until the last minute. With her new duties taking up a lot of time, Leah struggles to find her balance, but Jack is on hand to remind her just who she is. A mystery woman on a train gives him food for thought, as the machinations of the council start to take over their lives.
This is a good continuation of their story, even though it’s been a while since I read the first book, I was instantly drawn back into their world. There are lots of twists and turns, with intrigue galore, as the story progresses. It is smoothly written, with no editing or grammatical errors that disrupted my reading flow. I have no hesitation in recommending this book, although I would recommend that you read book one first as the story follows on.

Archaeolibrarian – I Dig Good Books!
This was an OK read, with a ton of potential. The love between Jack and Leah was a little much for me. I just wasn’t that into them being together, and didn’t find myself rooting for them as a couple.
I was given an ARC for my honest opinion.
