A Publishers Weekly Starred review!
It was love at first brush-off…
Dr. Daniel Durand wanted Winnie Baker the minute he laid eyes on her. Never mind that she’s his attending physician’s daughter, can’t stand him, and she’s a few years older than him. Giving up would’ve been the smart thing to do when the hot blonde midwife gave him the cold shoulder at the elevators his first week of … cold shoulder at the elevators his first week of residency at Santiam, but he never did give up easy. After bonding over early-morning Mexican food, can he convince her that he’s just the arm candy she needs for that wedding…and get her to consider one of their own?
Winnie Baker isn’t taking her cousin to another wedding. Her mentor’s big day is far too important to miss. And she’s not going by herself, not with her ex-boyfriend promising to be in attendance and blowing up her phone with texts on a weekly basis, asking for another chance. But the pickings are a bit slim in Timber Falls, a sleepy Oregon town in the foothills of the Cascades. She moved here to focus on building her midwifery practice, not get involved with cute millennial boys with trendy shoes and long eyelashes. And yet, even this small rural hospital is feeling a bit crowded, with her mother and her group of doctors-in-training constantly underfoot…especially since she was supposed to be one of those doctors.
Will an easy-going guy like Daniel still be interested when she spills her secret?
Could Be Something Good is the first book in the Timber Falls romantic comedy series. It contains mild cursing, a make-out scene involving melted butter and stolen moments in medical supply closets, but no open door sex scenes. If you like ridiculous bets, meddling relatives, and reverse dates, grab this book now.

Loved it! Relaxing and humorous.
Great start to the series
For a new author Ms. West is off to a great start. Winnie and Daniel were terrific characters, and it’s impossible not to cheer for their happiness. Their story is funny while showing the angst experienced in new relationships. The small town and hospital atmosphere just fit the characters and their stories. Can’t wait for the next story about Timber Falls.
I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
Thank you to Net Galley for allowing me to read and review this book.
I throughly enjoyed this book. The beginning was a little bit slow for me but it didn’t stay slow for long. And once these two started capitalizing on their feelings the book just got better and better. Winnie and Daniel are a fun couple. Winnie is definitely different than Daniel. She’s more serious, more cautious and a tough cookie to crack. But Daniel doesn’t back down. He doesn’t let her deter him from trying to get her. He keeps going. Once walls start coming down these two have a love like no others. Once they stop worrying about others their love blooms.
I can’t wait for the next book in the series. I will definitely be looking forward to it.
Again thank you NetGalley for providing me with a free advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are those of my own.
Entertaining story involving Winnie, a midwife, and Daniel, a Resident Doctor. Daniel meets her at the Hospital where they both work and us instantly attracted but there’s an age difference that bothers Winnie. Winnie’s mother is Daniel’s instructor which adds an interesting angle to the story. The beginning was a bit confusing as is keeping all the characters straight – there are 3 Dr. Durand. Daniel has dyslexia which plays a role in his life but didn’t seem to be explored as much as it should or could have been. I enjoyed the characters, which appear in all the novels of the series but each novel is a stand alone story. There’s plenty of twists to make the story flow and keep it interesting. It’s a satisfying read.
A nicely written story about a woman who hesitates to date a younger man. The story flows easily with good, dialogue, good characters and strong storyline. Well worth reading. A happily ever after ending. No sex or foul language.
Cute-fast read
Addresses challenges such as dyslexia.
The characters didn’t follow the normal pattern and that was very refreshing.
This is the first book I have read by Fiona West but it certainly won’t be the last because I really enjoyed this sweet romance. Dr Daniel Durand and Winnie Baker are a couple you can’t help loving and Timber Falls Oregon is a Place I’m sure we would all love to visit. This book is about instant love with an older woman, this story also touches on a subject close to my heart, dyslexia, and I have to say this author tells Winnie and Daniels story with compassion and humour. This is a fun, entertaining read with lots of witty banter, I was captivated from the first page to the last line and I loved the characters. A quick read that packs a mighty punch that I recommend to all romance lovers, small town romance and stories based around family and friends.
4 star Review Could Be Something Good by Fiona West
Fiona West is a new author to me. I found this to be sweet, romantic story about Dr. Daniel Durand and the woman he falls for on first sight Winnie Baker. Set in Timber Falls Oregon, I enjoy stories set in small towns and it was a quick read.
Winnie is older than Daniel and at times came across a lot older than she really was, which was at times a tad frustrating. However there was some humorous moments as meddling relatives got involved and I found myself smiling.
This is a story about being comfortable in your own skin and above all being accepted for the choices one makes. The chemistry between Daniel and Winnie was definitely there and I liked the support that Daniel offered to Winnie.
I received a copy of this book from the publisher through NetGalley.
I appreciated the lack of graphic sexual content! & the lack of typos!!!
The heroine is a too focused about being a few years older than the hero. Which actually is more like immaturity on her part… as is her angst over her “big secret”. The hero’s family… geez… autism, dyslexia & childhood cancer?! really?
