NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • A seaside town helps one young woman reclaim the light after darkness in an uplifting novel from #1 New York Times bestselling author Debbie Macomber.“Romantic, warm, and a breeze to read—one of Macomber’s best.”—Kirkus Reviews Annie Marlow has been through the worst. Rocked by tragedy, she heads to the one place that makes her happy: Oceanside in the Pacific … place that makes her happy: Oceanside in the Pacific Northwest, the destination of many family vacations when Annie was a teenager.
Once there, Annie begins to restore her broken spirit, thanks in part to the folks she meets: a local painter, Keaton, whose large frame is equal to his big heart—and who helps Annie fix up her rental cottage by the sea; Mellie, the reclusive, prickly landlord Annie is determined to befriend; and Britt, a teenager with a terrible secret. But it is Keaton to whom Annie feels most drawn. His quiet, peaceful nature offers her both comfort and reprieve from her grief, and the two begin to grow closer.
Then events threaten to undo the idyll Annie has come to enjoy. And when the opportunity of a lifetime lands in her lap, she is torn between the excitement of a new journey toward success and the safe and secure arms of the haven—and the man—she’s come to call home.
In this heartwarming tale, Annie finds that the surest way to fix what is damaged within is to help others rise above their pain and find a way to heal.
Praise for Cottage by the Sea

I am a HUGE fan of Debbie Macomber and always grab her books (even at full price if needed haha) as they come out. They are so entertaining and always have such a positive and heart warming ending. I will even re-read them if I am having a bad week – they bring my spirits up and put me into a good mood for the rest of the week. Her characters are great and relatable and the situations they find themselves in are creative and others can be someone I can relate to or would root for in a similar situation. She lets her readers escape into their world and they go on their journey. LOVE LOVE LOVE!!
Love her books
When tragedy took the lives of Annie’s immediate family, she was left with feelings of despair, aloneness, depression, and low self worth. Annie had survival’s guilt and wanted to die with her family. However, her cousin urged her to go to a place in her life where she felt happy. As Annie traveled to a cottage by the sea, hope for a better, happier future slowly made its way into her life in the form of a quiet gentle giant, a recluse landlord, and other complex and troubled characters.
This story was very entertaining, but it was also an emotional read. Many of the characters had to “let go” of past events to move forward, which was not an easy task. I also loved how the author incorporated the rescue theme throughout the story with both people and animals. A very well written story!
Highly recommended!
Love this book.
Typical Debbie.
I loved this book. The story line was not only sad but also uplifting. The trials of the deaths of all of Annie’s family, and what she did to get her out of the sadness, was wonderful. I couldn’t put the book down.
Debbie always writes wonderful stories, but I felt this one was exceptional
Very easy read with likable characters.
stupid
I love all of Debbie Macomber’s books, but this one has a special something. It was different from the prologue. The lead male character is unique. The experience of the loss the female lead and her reaction is relatable. This book grabbed my heart.
Great story! But what else would you expect from Debbie Macomber? She’s an excellent author.
Narration was fine. No complaints. (But not Therese Plummer!)
A very appealing read
You can never go wrong picking up a Debbie Macomber story. She excels in creating a plot and characters. I always am deeply involved in the lives of the characters and never want to put one of her books down.
This story revolves around a young women who loses all her family in one accident. It is disturbing to read and could not imagine it happening in real life. After some time to grieve, Annie is pushed to try to live her life again. She goes to the one place that her family was so happy every year on vacation. There she builds a new life and a new “from the heart” family.
This is a great story and I think anyone that enjoys reading women’s fiction would enjoy it.
This book has great characters with interesting backstories. Debbie Macomber gets you hooked right off then you have to keep reading to see how the characters overcome their fears. It is a GREAT READ!
