NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • A seaside town helps one young woman reclaim the light after darkness in an uplifting novel from #1 New York Times bestselling author Debbie Macomber.“Romantic, warm, and a breeze to read—one of Macomber’s best.”—Kirkus Reviews Annie Marlow has been through the worst. Rocked by tragedy, she heads to the one place that makes her happy: Oceanside in the Pacific … place that makes her happy: Oceanside in the Pacific Northwest, the destination of many family vacations when Annie was a teenager.
Once there, Annie begins to restore her broken spirit, thanks in part to the folks she meets: a local painter, Keaton, whose large frame is equal to his big heart—and who helps Annie fix up her rental cottage by the sea; Mellie, the reclusive, prickly landlord Annie is determined to befriend; and Britt, a teenager with a terrible secret. But it is Keaton to whom Annie feels most drawn. His quiet, peaceful nature offers her both comfort and reprieve from her grief, and the two begin to grow closer.
Then events threaten to undo the idyll Annie has come to enjoy. And when the opportunity of a lifetime lands in her lap, she is torn between the excitement of a new journey toward success and the safe and secure arms of the haven—and the man—she’s come to call home.
In this heartwarming tale, Annie finds that the surest way to fix what is damaged within is to help others rise above their pain and find a way to heal.
Praise for Cottage by the Sea
“Macomber never disappoints. Tears and laughter abound in this story of loss and healing that will wrap you up and pull you in; readers will finish it in one sitting.”—Library Journal (starred review)
“Macomber’s story of tragedy and triumph is emotionally engaging from the outset and ends with a satisfying conclusion. Readers will be most taken by the characters, particularly Annie, a heartwarming lead who bolsters the novel.”—Publishers Weekly

Another great book by a great author – I love how her stories are so sweet but still have meat to them. And a happy ending is the best part!!!
In a way it spoke to me. It’s awesome
Such a delight! A Beach Cottage brings the sound of the surf right to your door.
Follows a small amount of people,,3; the development and interaction of these characters is well told.. Great storyline. ..I was reading it slower to make it last longer!! Highly rec: for a fun, easy read.
This books starts with a tragedy that is so startling you wonder if you want to go on! Annie loses her whole family thanksgiving morning, she had turned down her mom’s invite home and that ended up saving her life. After over a year of mourning she knows she has to move on and start living again but how? How do you get over that? the survivors guilt alone is crippling. Well she goes back to Oceanside in the Pacific Northwest were they spent a number of wonderful summers as a family. There is a great cast of people to help Annie, you will meet them all and love them as well. Such a heartwarming story, I read it in just over a day, it was so hard to put down. Debbie Macomber can write a novel that will draw you in and you will not breathe again until you are done!
This author is one of my favorites!
Loved it and I will be looking for more books by this author.
I really enjoyed the book. It was funny, had wonderful characters, and kept me from putting it down.
After I’ve read so many “cozy” mysteries with their “blueprint” plots and characters, this was a pleasant change. Annie loses her entire family to the tragic mud slide in Seattle. She was supposed to be home with her family over Thanksgiving weekend, but disappointed her mother by staying in LA and partying with her friends. When she heard of the tragedy, she goes into a tailspin of depression. The book resumes 16 months later. Her close cousin suggests that Annie find her “happy place” to help her recover from losing her family. She decides to go to the small town where her family vacationed for years in the Pacific Northwest. It is here that the story unfolds. The story is one of healing and restoration. The book has romance, but it’s not overly done. Definitely Hallmark worthy. The characters are complex, and it’s enjoyable to see how they grow and come out of their self induced prisons. Four underdogs become the best of friends and form a new family.
Always enjoy Debbie Macomber books and this was very sweet to read.
This was a typical Debbie Macomber book – a beautiful story based on tragic happenings to both of the main characters.
I like to know what happens to the characters and this sort of took us there. It was enjoyable and I like it.
Nice, pleasant book to read. Good realistic ending.
I do enjoyed reading this book. The characters were very different than your beautiful girl and drop-dead handsome guy. They had flaws and baggage and tragic pasts. You really felt for them. I laughed and cried.
it was a very good book.
Debbie November’s books are always a great read!
