NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • A seaside town helps one young woman reclaim the light after darkness in an uplifting novel from #1 New York Times bestselling author Debbie Macomber.“Romantic, warm, and a breeze to read—one of Macomber’s best.”—Kirkus Reviews Annie Marlow has been through the worst. Rocked by tragedy, she heads to the one place that makes her happy: Oceanside in the Pacific … place that makes her happy: Oceanside in the Pacific Northwest, the destination of many family vacations when Annie was a teenager.
Once there, Annie begins to restore her broken spirit, thanks in part to the folks she meets: a local painter, Keaton, whose large frame is equal to his big heart—and who helps Annie fix up her rental cottage by the sea; Mellie, the reclusive, prickly landlord Annie is determined to befriend; and Britt, a teenager with a terrible secret. But it is Keaton to whom Annie feels most drawn. His quiet, peaceful nature offers her both comfort and reprieve from her grief, and the two begin to grow closer.
Then events threaten to undo the idyll Annie has come to enjoy. And when the opportunity of a lifetime lands in her lap, she is torn between the excitement of a new journey toward success and the safe and secure arms of the haven—and the man—she’s come to call home.
In this heartwarming tale, Annie finds that the surest way to fix what is damaged within is to help others rise above their pain and find a way to heal.
Praise for Cottage by the Sea
“Macomber never disappoints. Tears and laughter abound in this story of loss and healing that will wrap you up and pull you in; readers will finish it in one sitting.”—Library Journal (starred review)
“Macomber’s story of tragedy and triumph is emotionally engaging from the outset and ends with a satisfying conclusion. Readers will be most taken by the characters, particularly Annie, a heartwarming lead who bolsters the novel.”—Publishers Weekly

When Annie experiences the loss of her family she returns to a cottage by the sea. This is a place where she is able to remember the happiest times of her childhood, which helps her to overcome her grief.
Debbie Macomber doesn’t disappoint in her development of characters and storyline. Beautifully written, with interesting sub-plots.
I love Debbie Macomber books because her character development is exceptional! This was a bit different than some of her other books, and that is one reason why I loved it! The characters were unexpected, but I loved learning about each one! Ever since I first got hooked on Debbie with “Thursdays at Eight” I have read all of her books, and have NEVER been disappointed. I heartily recommend “Cottage by the Sea.” It’s not a “formula romance” but it is interesting, funny, unpredictable, and it deals with the human condition. A husband who is physically abusive, a woman who is agoraphobic, a man who has been bullied for most of his life. This story drew me in with all the complexities of each character and the life issues that life had dealt them.
One of my key metrics when reading a book is when I am sorry that I have reached the end of the book — because I will miss reading “what happens next.”
It was ok but kind of depressing because it takes so long for the good outcome.
This book was so bad I couldn’t even finish it. If I could give it -5 stars I would. The book was touted for women. What women? It was very juvenile and predictable and the characters were ridiculous and shallow. Joyce Caro Oates you are not! This review will probably never see the light of day.

Good story a good “beach read”. Interesting characters with a feel good ending!
Exceptional and delightful characters. One of Debbie Macombers best !
Debbie Macomber is a good writer. She writes a lot about heartache.
Annie is starting her life over and she meets some intereting characters. She meets Keaton a painter, who’s pictures are all over the Island. They start dating and Keaton helps her.
She also meets Mellie, a recluse. Mellie is a hard person to get to know; but she and Keaton are friends. In the beginning Annie has Keaton talk to Mellie for her, and then, as she gets to know Mellie, she starts asking, herself.
This book is about a life starting over and meeting new people.
I loved this Book! The characters were well developed and drew me in. I couldn’t put the book down. Hi

It was a very good book kept my interest to the end
This was an enjoyable read and I plan to read more of Debbie’s books.
I really like all of her books that I have read and this one didn’t disappoint. I would definitely recommend it.
I loved all the different characters. Very unusual for a Debbie Macomber book. I really recommend it.
I have never read a book that Debbie Macomber has written that was not an excellent read. I have read all of her books, except the newest ones, as I can’t pay the higher cost on a fixed income, also they have to be on an e-reader due to my eyesight problem. I had read 100 of her books prior to 2012 when i got the e-reader.
Deb really knows her craft and keeps us reading.
As the story unfolds the 2 main characters heal themselves and each other. One from a very tragic event and the other from a very abusive childhood. Both help another find the courage to leave her home after 7 years.
