NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • A seaside town helps one young woman reclaim the light after darkness in an uplifting novel from #1 New York Times bestselling author Debbie Macomber.“Romantic, warm, and a breeze to read—one of Macomber’s best.”—Kirkus Reviews Annie Marlow has been through the worst. Rocked by tragedy, she heads to the one place that makes her happy: Oceanside in the Pacific … place that makes her happy: Oceanside in the Pacific Northwest, the destination of many family vacations when Annie was a teenager.
Once there, Annie begins to restore her broken spirit, thanks in part to the folks she meets: a local painter, Keaton, whose large frame is equal to his big heart—and who helps Annie fix up her rental cottage by the sea; Mellie, the reclusive, prickly landlord Annie is determined to befriend; and Britt, a teenager with a terrible secret. But it is Keaton to whom Annie feels most drawn. His quiet, peaceful nature offers her both comfort and reprieve from her grief, and the two begin to grow closer.
Then events threaten to undo the idyll Annie has come to enjoy. And when the opportunity of a lifetime lands in her lap, she is torn between the excitement of a new journey toward success and the safe and secure arms of the haven—and the man—she’s come to call home.
In this heartwarming tale, Annie finds that the surest way to fix what is damaged within is to help others rise above their pain and find a way to heal.
Praise for Cottage by the Sea
“Macomber never disappoints. Tears and laughter abound in this story of loss and healing that will wrap you up and pull you in; readers will finish it in one sitting.”—Library Journal (starred review)
“Macomber’s story of tragedy and triumph is emotionally engaging from the outset and ends with a satisfying conclusion. Readers will be most taken by the characters, particularly Annie, a heartwarming lead who bolsters the novel.”—Publishers Weekly

It was sad but Happy to
Anything by Debbie is a “feel good”read. I can get lost in her books and visualize the towns and people who live there- almost makes me want to return to the Northwest
always loved Debbie Macomber’s books, but can’t always afford them.
This was a good light read after reading several WWII books. I took it on a plane with me while going on vacation.
Light and delightful, enjoyed reading.
A wonderful book about a young woman finding peace and happiness after a tragic event in her life.
A sweet, romantic book set by the sea. Wonderful characters a la what Debbie McComber is known for. I usually don’t read sweet romances, but leans toward women’s fiction and I’m a sucker for these ‘by the sea’ settings. The story was different, with unusual characters – a shut-in/hoarder, a man who speaks very little, and a woman devastated by enormous personal loss/death of her family.
This is a tender-hearted, well-written book with believable characters and a couple plot twists when I thought I had it figured out. A quick, easy and satisfying, lovely read.
Cottage by the Sea by Debbie Macomber is a sweet romance that would be perfect for a weekend trip. It is a simple, charming, and clean-read, but full of content. The book begins with a horrible tragedy that would be just about everyone’s worst nightmare come true. While the book has this sad element to it, there is much joy in relationships that are formed, friendships that are made, and adversities that are overcome, not all by the main character. The book focuses on four people that you get to know pretty well, I felt invested in what they were going through and had to have tissues handy a few times.
Typical MacComber, nice family reading.
Debbie Macomber never fails to hit it out of the ballpark with every book she writes, and this one is no exception! Annie turns down an invitation to Thanksgiving dinner with her family–a decision that haunts her when the family’s home is destroyed by a landslide (along with the family). Annie has to learn how to cope with being the only surviving one in her family, so she is encouraged to find her “happy place” by her best friend. When she does that she finds that there is life after tragedy. You have to read this one–it’s fantastic!
Just a wonderful story line, read it in a weekend, could not put it down
Just ok
I’ve enjoyed all of the Macomber books I’ve come across; always entertaining.
I am not always a fan of Debbie Macomber books. This is the best of her books, in my opinion.
Debbie Macomber’s again takes us to the Pacific Northwest with another inspirational story featuring realistic characters who face problems and work hard to overcome them. The road is never easy but she urges the characters to move forward. Each of us faces obstacles in life and reading about how others work through hardships is a guide to our own lives.
Who can resist a good love story written by Debbie Macomber?!
Not the typical book I choose to read but a good beach book. Good story. Quite repetitive but I still liked it.
This was a enjoyable good story, I liked the characters and the story keeps you interested.
Great beach read
I love Debbie Macomber’s books from the very first page. The characters always become real and believable.
